Nintendo Announces Nintendo 2DS

4 square miles of empty cheap plastic, no second analogue
Honestly that would be the craziest thing if they did that. Devs would either ignore the second analog or have to code for whether your machine had one or not. It'd be a nightmare. Nintendo missed that opportunity with the original 3DS, no sense going for it now.

Nobody uses the 3D anyway. No hinge is a little weird but the hinge was the flimsiest part of the DS (not sure about the 3DS). Price could be a little lower but that'll come soon enough. Not stylish but I don't choose game systems based on style.

Must admit I really quite like that design, looks like something that could take a lot of punishment from kids. Screens seem normal 3DS size though, I loooove my 3DS XL.

Honestly it's not the worst idea and I get why they call it the 2DS. Of course people will be confused by the name but calling it a 3DS Lite or whatever would've been bad too because it doesn't actually support 3D.

It's a little on the ugly side but clam shell probably would've been too expensive for what they were going for.

People need to read as according to Nintendo, this version of the 3DS is tailored for young kids.

Does it mean it's smart to release it???

No, but this isn't an upgrade.

The games will look so bad without the 3D. And what is the screen size? I get cramps with my XL so I could try this out at a store.

I'm not sure why they didn't go with the clamshell design. It's usually the best considering it has 2 screens.

If it's for kids... are kids really not smart enough to open a clamshell? I can understand taking out the 3D, but why this weird flat design?

The design makes it look like some shitty tablet for children. Not unlike these "laptops"...

I really enjoy my og 3DS, but this is just ridiculous. I thought it was a joke at first.

I was hoping for a Nintendo 3DS Lite. :( Improved screens, sexier hardware.

This, just no. But I get its for the budget conscious and kids.

What in the flying goddamn fuck.

What's up with Nintendo and gimping consoles? You're supposed to add features over time, not subtract them. I guess I kinda understand market research showing that the 3D warnings were scaring parents away from buying it, but I'm pretty sure they weren't also scared by stereo sound. And I'm damn sure a clamshell design that protected the system's screens while not in use was a million times more ideal for the way their kids treat things than two always-exposed screens.

£110 for this or £130 for a normal 3DS with a decent design and 3D?

HM. I'm laughing too much, omg it's fucking hideous. But it has its audience.

Honestly, i dont think the model is really that bad an idea. Its cheaper and its perhaps mostly aimed towards the younger audience. Calling it the 2DS however, that doesnt sound very smart. They should have called it 3DS Extra Lite or something like that.
This is what i'm thinking aswell but it needs to be $99. Nintendo just has to be smart with getting the message across this time. Let people know that all 3ds games still work just not in 3d,and shout it everytime they get a chance to and put it on the front of the box.

That system is pretty awful looking. But if the battery life is improved significantly, I'd probably seriously consider getting one.

there are puzzles in super mario 3d land that would be much more difficult without 3d, but that's about it imo. it's too bad this thing is so ugly. i'd like to see it in person.

A redesign of the orignal 3DS is an idea that's overdue. Making it a budget system is a also good idea. Since stereoscopic 3D hasn't been a selling point, axing that is a good idea too. Even finding some roadmap away from dual screen systems is probably wise.

But the 2DS form-factor is hard to take seriously at first because it looks so ungainly.

This is a good thing.

Think about it, now we actually know, and have proof, that Nintendo have collectively lost their minds. We can finally put to bed, the question of if management has been guano sniffing, and passed on all the hardware decisions to the kitchen staff at the office.

Thanks Nintendo.

In losing the clamshell they had an opportunity to merge the two screens into one, and just have the software split them. That would have looked neater, to say the least.

Now you have only so many angles you can play this thing. Part of the beauty of the clamshell design was that you could adjust the angle of the top screen to better fit the way you were playing it at any given time.
