Nintendo Announces Nintendo 2DS

And still no second stick model. And still no fuckin' unified 2013's worthy account system.

Pretty much what I'm thinking.

Seems like people here at GAF don't have an idea how tablets are popular with children, a less expensive 3(2)DS should be very attractive to parents.
 
Can't wait for the first fan mod of a 3DS with 2DS screen and 2DS with 3DS screens...

Also now boxart for Pokemon (and beyond?) showing a 3DS and 2DS logo?

No power saving mode? It can't be the same firmware then? Unless that mode if based on the nature of the top screen.
 
Good lord this thread is moving so fast. Uh hey, did someone post that FFXIV gif from previous hilarious theads in here? Because that's basically how I feel about this.
 
I'm finding it really hard to defend Nintendo nowadays. This is a pretty hideous design. Really shows how much they've given up on their initial vision of 3D gaming.

It looks pretty small, for small hands. I'm sure they've done their focus tests. Best of luck to them, anything that gets kids playing games is good for games in the long run :)

It desperation for Nintendo to release a budget handheld alongside a major release in one of the most popular and beloved gaming franchises in their stable? Right in time for holiday sales?

As to your other points, I'm glad Nintendo is giving up on the gimmicky 3D. And yes, it is hideous.

Well put. I do think they could've worked on the branding a little bit. There's no way Nintendo 2DS is NOT confusing for general audiences. Nintendo has to market this thing right if they want this to make big bucks.
 
OMG hahahaha that design is horrible, what a Frankenstein!!!

I cant stop laughing, still it does make sense for Nintendo to release something like that since 3D is not a selling point anymore, and between that and no clamshell they can release a cheap xDS.

So horrible though!

Yup, its going to be a really interesting holiday with the 2DS, PS4 and Xbone. Hell, even in October I can see the 3DS do 300k+ thanks to the 2DS
 
What the hell? I just saw all this 2DS chatter on twitter and was stoked to finally pick up a "3DS" for $130. I have no desire for 3D so this shit was perfect.... then I saw the pictures...why? Just release a clam shell 2DS and 2DSXL, we all win.

LOL. I think the people crying bloody murder are those that won't admit that video games and consoles, when you come down to it, are nothing more than expensive toys.
 
Would have purchased two of these. But no clam-shell design ruins it. 3D is meaningless as my kids and their cousins never use it because of the strain. They just want to have fun, not headaches. But with the non-pocket-frienedly design, this will go over like a lead balloon.

First Nintendo blows it by including 3d. Now the half-fix. They deserve their failures.
 
the more i look at it, the more i kinda dig it. the slant really does help with weight distribution, triggers look comfy.


I kinda like how it looks more than my vita or 3ds xl.

But I tend to be fond of goofy things.
 
My son hates playing 3DS with the 3D turned on, and $70 cheaper will be a good holiday buy for kids. But isn't it weird to have the buttons aligned with the top screen?

Most importantly, I fear developers will treat the 3D as a gimmick rather than gameplay innovation, as there will be an install base of handhelds which will never be able to enable 3D.
 
This isn't rocket science. Kids and babies won't care about the ugliness, moms will appreciate the price, combine with Pokemon launch and bam. Instant success.
