Xbox One no habla español.
You really want to believe, don't you?
We get that. But if the hardware MS claims is integral to the xbo and must ship with it is only going to work properly for 5 out of 13 launch countries due to localization issues, what "other things" under the same localization category could possibly be big enough to justify delay elsewhere?I think he means the delays are due to the other things (services etc.) that they group under localization. Localization for them is not limited to just voice+text.
I was referring to this part
If Microsoft would have worded their disclaimer as languages supported that would be one thing. But they're specifically saying what countries will be supported. The US does not have a national language. Major documents are printed in at least 3-4 languages nationwide. Other countries are the same way. Why is Microsoft identifying voice command support by nation and not by language?
My mind is blown just wondering how those names came to be.UK has so many accents in it too that it's seems daft not to have Ireland.
I mean just in a few mile radius around me I have Sand Dancers, Mackems and Geordies and voice recognition is always fun.
If voice commands were really the issue wouldn't Xbone be delayed in all countries without full Kibect support? Wouldn't Xbobe be launching only in these 5 countries?how does not having voice commands being available on launch = voice commands not being the problem for delays in certain country's?
how do we know they didn't cut down the amount of launch country so that they could focus on getting those other ones done within a week or two after launch?

Acording to the FAQ for importers leaked by CBOAT voice commands will be avaliable in english, italian, french, german and spanish, but you can set up your locale in any marketplace you want and change it whenever you want.

So basically MS are asking $499 for a console with Kinect that doesn't fully work in 8 main countries.
Seems a bit unfair doesn't it?
Unfortunately at this time gamers in countries which do not have a Store cannot access online multi-player features. However, we are considering every measure to offer PlayStation Store services to these territories as soon as possible. To clarify, the affected territories are: Bahrain, Lebanon, Romania, Oman, Slovakia, Malta, Cyprus and Iceland.
Not even that many, because they don't even support all the languages spoken in the US yet. So they shouldn't even launch in the US. (Kidding)
English is not the national language of the US. It is the most widely spoken, but not the national language.
Localization and "countries supported" should not be tied together as if they're one thing like MS is trying to claim.
They are releasing in a set number of countries due to number of consoles, bottom line. LANGUAGE and not nations are what is localized. They're already skipping countries that prodominantly speak English so their excuses are already on shaky ground, and they don't even support all the languages spoken in the US, therefore "localization" is simply another word for language support and Microsoft is trying to lump that into country support.
It works for a place like Japan who pretty much just speaks Japanese, but for Europe where English is taught to most people as a second language, the "country not supported due to language" is utter BS.
Edit: What has Gies said about this?
Uh no... The other launch countries are just missing voice recognition, not "local Live, Apps, a Marketplace, and a variety of other services."
This is a trick.... as there is no national language for the United States.
No more unfair than:
The reality is that all console makers tend to bone smaller markets, particularly at launch. Some markets are so small they never get reasonable service.
Is anyone actually planning to buy one at launch?, seriously
I have a feeling Microsoft's launch troubles might just be a simple combination of several issues of varying degrees:
1. Some kind of supply issues (yield, lack of components or other issues).
2. Kinect - not enough supported languages.
3. Lack of TV deals in those 8 countries.
4. Surprised by Sony's early reveal and the console itself (RAM).
They bet the farm on Kinect, always online, voice and TV services in one box, and now they are in an extreme hurry to fix things. They don't have one issue, they might have several. At least that's how I interpret their actions and messages.
No se llama Xbox Juan? :-(
By the way, German accents are also very diverse, so I still don't get the Switzerland thing.
*raises hand*
I can't believe they don't have Spanish in at launch, wtf?
The difference here is that you can sign up for a PSN account for another country and make purchases there. While MS restricts it to "credit card must be from locale set in dash".
lolwhat, no ireland or australia?
I thought Microsoft is a large enough cooperation to support such things...
Except we don't know if that's true anymore with the XB1. They've said people can buy from regions outside their own this time around.
You know what's weird about that. It says Voice Recognition is set based on country selected. Can an English speaker in Italy still talk to their Kinect in English?
It says you select your language first, then it filters your available countries down from there. So if someone in the US speaks Italian, will they be able to while having their locale set to US?
I'm in US. It works in US. Hopefully other countries get it soon, but it's a non issue for me.
Void?
It is true that this does not follow logic regarding nationalities attached to languages and raises questions towards dialects and accents as well. It also gives the impression that the launch is being rushed in order to remain competitive with Sony. I was wondering since the initial rumblings of fab issues with the system if the launch would be a hard, soft, or paper launch. It seems that it is a soft launch leaning towards paper in terms of functionality.
If I live in the United States and Spanish is my primary language, which is completely allowed as there is no national language, does the XBO provide voice command support for me?
See how dumb it is to attach voice functionality to nations instead of languages?
But it's still on their FAQ info:
Read the part about the user experience in a non-launch country.
I speak English. It works in the US if you speak English. If you speak French and you live in the US, which does NOT have a national language, is the US still available as a locale for that person?
I speak English.
Why do people care about purchase decisions other than their own??... console wars??
