Resogun Dev: PS4 is all 'raw power'; will result in better looking multiplat games

“Definitely. In this generation PS4 seems to be the console with fewest quirks – no embedded DRAM. Just raw power."

Hahahahaha, that's the corniest but best thing ever!

Before everyone goes in on Apple whatever his name was. I'm sure he has a logical rebutal.

Lets hear him out..

You know you could have simply come back and said my bad, it was a silly comment, but you had to continue to pretend you are right.

A 40% power gap in compute should at least give that.
But im skeptical Resogun wouldn't be possible possible on X1.

We can only speculate. It's plausible though that a game that relies heavily on GPU compute would struggle on the Xbox One having been designed around the PS4's greater ability to handle compute.

Digital Foundry, for example, did not think it could be done on Xbone, but that was just their opinion.

However, we know for a fact the PS4 can do it. The Xbone... who can say. If any PS4 title cannot be done on Xbone though, it'll be one like Resogun that relies so heavily on GPU compute.

Well I'm sure he'd love to reply, but I believe he's just earned himself a new tag.

Well, blind patriotism is never healthy. Nevertheless, the facts of American leadership in the physical sciences is not really up for debate.

From Nobelprize.org:

Nobel Laureates and Country of Birth

10 Laureates born in China
49 Laureates born in France
74 Laureates born in Germany
8 Laureates born in India
17 Laureates born in Italy
17 Laureates born in Japan
37 Laureates born in Russia
28 Laureates born in Sweden
79 Laureates born in the United Kingdom
247 Laureates born in the U.S.A.
I didn't mean to imply that he was wrong about the capability of American engineers. I was pointing out that he was wrong about the Xbox being the more capable console.

Funny that you took it that way, though, especially given I pointed out that the lead engineer for ps4 is American.

They could be correct, but only time will tell. I still tend to believe that for at least the beginning of the gen there will probably be little to no difference between multiplats on the two consoles.

I keep seeing this belief put forwards. I still do not understand the basis for it.

5 times the population, yet only 4 times the number of laureates?

Step yo' game up.

This argument is silly and I'm not taking any sides, but I will say that even though population is a factor, it should also count. Quality vs quantity eh? Well lets have a talk with Nintendo during the N64 vs PSX era and see how that turned out for them :p

More 3rd party devs = more chances to get great games even if a high percentage are turds. Getting 20 good games out of 80 vs 5 games out of 12 may look better for Nintendo percentage wise, but 20 good games is still better than 5 good games.

We're talking about the country after all, not whether if people are smarter or better on average. Strength in numbers! Where do China and India stand btw?

argument? it's clearly a playful joke. I mean, smokydave knows america is the best country on earth.

(this is a playful joke too)

not really

Ummm....Nobel Prizes are not awarded based upon, nor influenced by geopolitical dominance.

America has a huge population

315million - 247 Laureates born in the U.S.A.
63.7m - 79 Laureates born in the United Kingdom
81m - 74 Laureates born in Germany
65.7m - 49 Laureates born in France

That tells more of a story.

Thanks for that :)

It wasn't though. The TV was showing footage from Elysium. It seems like he cut a portion of the image and overlaid it on top of the Banderas gif with very low opacity. The reflection doesn't quite match up because of that, but there is no other way to do that so I think it's brilliant.

Sony has more 3rd party devs than Nintendo... sound familiar? What's next? the only reason why we have an advantage in wars is because we have better weapons?

Population bias is a factor there. UK has more Laureates per capita for example.

Luxembourg has the highest GDP and GNP, per Capita. However, a country's economic power and influence is measured by aggregate total, not on a per Capita basis.

My cousins in the U.K. should be rightfully proud that they have such a high number of Nobel Laureates, as a percentage of their total population.

However, by that measure, the island nation of St. Lucia holds the number one spot, and Luxembourg #2. But I don't think anyone would argue these countries are epicenters for human advancement and achievements in science and technology. No offense, St. Lucia and Luxembourg.

I couldn't seriously hate on the country that created the Dodge Hemi Dart and Coco Austin.

Y'all do need to step your game up though ;)

It is arguably an interesting statistic. So, taking it to the limit, which (according to you), should tell the most complete story...then St. Lucia WINS!

Which is great, because they have fantastic beaches, and make some damn fine dark rum.

But in all seriousness, as of 2012, the USA represents 48% of the combined world countries, in terms of Nobel prizes awarded in the Physical Sciences. Note that this statistic includes countries such as China and India, which combined together constitute 37% of the world's human population.

He further adds that “these detached voxels that you see in game are not just particle effects or point sprites; they are actual individual cube s, with their own geometry, collisions and physics, and each has its own lighting and casts its own shadow. All these cubes are fully dynamic and reactive, so for example when the player boosts through the cubes you will notice them being pushed away. Our engine supports up to 500,000 of these at any time, though in normal gameplay we rarely exceed 200k.”

I hope you know that comparing "launch games" is useless, because they will be more or less nearly the same.
2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. gen games..... THEN you will see differences.
At the moment, the devs are happy to meet the launch target (get the game completed on time).

If there is a significant difference it will be apparent in launch window games.

Dont take offense :) - Its just to put it in perspective of population, im just watering down that 247 number a little :p

247 Laureates born in the U.S.A.

Ok, now let's compare the US and Sweden (because that's where I live) by laureates per capita, which is utterly more fair given the wide range of population sizes we're dealing with here.

US: 247 laureates from a population of 316,668,567 = 1 laureate per 1,282,059 people.
Sweden: 28 laureates from a population of 9,555,893 = 1 laureate per 341,282 people.

Sweden has 3.76 times more laureates per capita than the US. So yes, while you are the leaders in sheer numbers (you do have about 33 times the population of Sweden), the picture changes when you make the comparison more fair. Any given Swede is 3.76 times more likely to be a laureate than any given American.

Sorry for adding to this off-topic talk, just felt like I had to address it.

How did they insert that other .gif on the tv and manage to keep the reflection of the guys hand/controller?

I mentioned it in an above post, but it's not a real reflection. You'll notice that the reflection shows the palm of his hand. It's just the right side of the screen overlaid on the Banderas gif. That being said, the reason people haven't noticed that is because it's such a well-made gif and the reflection adds so much to it.

I definitely spent some time inspecting it, thinking, "how did he do that??"
