Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U Version for Nov 21 (JP)

This quite an early investment. I would have expected a PS3 Taiko game before a WiiU one but ah, it's a rare scoop for the WiiU.

Taiko in HD is awesome news.

Hopefully this version wont have the same lag issues that the Wii versions seem to have.

Usually region locking doesn't hurt that much on Nintendo consoles..... But this is the exception. I don't expect this to come here.

Had so much fun drumming to Shingeki no Kyojin's theme song when I played the latest version in Tokyo with my gf ....

The first significant Wii U Japanese 3rd party game since DQX or possibly MH 3G HD.

Yes, the third significant third party game for the Wii U in Japan, and the first brand new (even if the series surely isn't so rare, considering how many episodes were released)
Could sell decently (also becaus of the compatibility with the Wii drums)

This was one of the game I (and you, ins't it?) were figuring before the launch. too bad it took 1 year to see this (very small) kind of support for the console ;p

Drum compatibility doesn't matter that much when you don't have a console compatibility. They still need to spend 26k for the console.

it could sell to those already have the console, and during the holidays this number could increase a little thanks also to the other "family oriented" Nintendo games (such as Mario, Party and Fit..even if DK is early 14 in Japan)
Obviously, even for new costumer, not having to buy the most expensive version of the game is a small incentive (and the good track of backward compatibility of the Wii U in terms of peripherals goes on)

but we were talking about it being the third third party game of some interest: DQ sold around 100k (dd included) if I remember, MH around 200k (retail only if I remember), let's see if this can be around the same amount

I know that the Wii U is not on fire, don't worry ;)

Playing this series at the arcade was one of the best gaming moments ever. Beating on the drum is just too fun (and tiring!).
I'm considering importing the Wii version (thanks hackers) but I worry that playing at home, without the ''real'' drum won't be nearly as fun. Is the drum controller any good?

I've tried just an old PS2 episode: they were good but not so much.
But I think that they improved the quality (and sensibility and stability) later on...

Damn you region lock! Got really addicted to the arcade version on my trip to Japan. A shame that we'll never get a version of this in Europe. May have been a reason for me to buy a Wii U.

Ugh... Dat region lock!

Really hope the vita gets a Taiko game at some point since that'll be the cheapest way to play these games now :(

Who knows maybe Scamco will embrace localizing this due to the eShop. You can use the touchscreen as makeshift Taikos, right? So you don't really even need the peripherals to get a reasonably similar experience. I mean they localized Project X Zone for crying out loud, and that didn't do too badly, iirc. Anything's possible now.

Urge to add a Japanese Wii U to my PAL one rising...

Love these games, buy 90% of them, even though the core gameplay remains the same. The adventure/RPG modes in some of the recent ones are excellent though. Even more interested if this version has one.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Project X Zone had a great first month (better, first 11 days) in US, just shy of 54k, a great result for such a niche release. But the problem is that, while 3DS is demonstrating it's pretty capable of selling Japanese titles in the West (even niche ones; the situation seems different for core Western ones, so far), Wii U is...eh, we all know, I fear XD

Not at all, but it's better than nothing. I'm used to play on the classic controller by now, so i don't have much problems, but if you want the best experience, you should import the game with the drums. You can get it on amiami.

All the bundles with the controller are sold out. It's too bad because I really wanted to see how much they would charge for shipping... Play Asia wants ~120$ for the bundle and more than 50$ for the shipping. No thanks!
Actually, someone might be able to bring it over for me in a few months so maybe I should just be patient.

The website as found prior to opening a bit ago:

I just figured out something about these guys...

Do they beat each others faces?

Also, I see the missing inbetween evolution of Chingling and Chimecho, and the CUTEST worm holding a flower, how is that not adorable?!

I think it was just really convenient timing since the Wii accessory will work with it, if it tanks I bet they'll try to move the series to PS4 next year.

The Taiko games might be my favorite rhythm games of all time.

It really bums me out that they don't release them over here or when they release them on region locked consoles.

I kind of doubt they would abandon the Wii U so quickly, let alone release the next game as a PS4 exclusive. I could see a PS3 and Wii U multiplatform release, though.

They could do multi-plat, but it would still be with the PS4. The reason this is on Wii U and not PS3 is because we're at the end of the generation and it really doesn't make sense to make people buy an accessory for a PS3 version this late in the generation.

If you have a DS or PSP, give those versions a go. They don't feature up-to-the-minute anime/J-Pop etc songs, but that's really the only minor criticism!

I played the PS2 version soooooo much -- it's absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. Played it in the arcade and the Wii version at an electronics store (forget which one) when we were there in July.

I really hope Nintendo and/or Namco brings this to the US. The Wii U really needs games. Just leave the soundtrack as is if you have to!

They could make the controller USB and ensure everyone that it will work on any console that has an USB port. Taiko home consoles releases have been yearly and I just don't see them releasing a PS4 game less than a year after its launch.

I agree, those games were really fun and were what got me hooked onto the series.

I liked the PSP ones more since they were straight rhythm games without the extra modes that the DS versions had.

Makes me wish that Namco would release these games back on Sony hardware again. Still can't believe a full Taiko game never came on the PS3.

I really doubt they want to go back to a setup that is wired to the console it-self at this point.

But PS4 wouldn't require a dongle, making it cheaper for them.
Right, but we don't know how well the PS4 will sell and, judging form the recent Sony conference, Japanese devs don't seem to hot on it. In comparison, PS3 has a large userbase and software still sells.

They have to make plans from now about where they're going to be in 2015 and beyond though. Namco knows they the PS3 is the console to capitalize on right now, their software releases make that very obvious, but they have more than enough series there that Taiko would make more sense on PS4 if it's unsuccessful on the Wii U since it revolves around the drum.

The adventure modes on the (3)DS ones are amazing though! :)

But yeah, it's a bit surprising the series never made it to PS3. The most recent Wii one is selling, so you'd imagine with the PS3 install base it could sell decently as well.

Since the Wii U has problems with 3rd party games, there might be a chance that Nintendo will bring this one over, right?

The problem would be licensing the music. More than likely, the music licenses for Taiko only cover distribution in the Japanese market. The cost to increase that to a worldwide market may well be greater than the expected revenue from a worldwide release.

It's a shame though. Niche titles like this would be perfect for worldwide digital distribution.

So glad I have a Japanese Wii U right now :)
There haven't been many reasons to rejoice, other than Dragon Quest X (which frankly, was reason enough..) - as the software lineup in Japan has been dire.

But yes, I'll be all over this.

Well that saves the Wii U in Japan. America though...

I wish they'd do something about region locking. I know they can. I don't want to hear their PR bull-fluff as to why they can't either.
