List of known resolutions for next-gen games

Confirmed framerates wouldn't be a bad idea to add either once the consoles hit and can be properly measured.

Yea, I like the idea of having framerates on this but right now, I don't think it can be done as framerates are always a target and varies, where as resolution is traditionally set, if a game is 1080p then it's 1080p if one is 30 fps, it might be 25 fps more often than not.

Wii U not seeming so bad, right?

Well yes actually i'm surprised it's so bad. It was meant to be better than PS360 in term of performance... I didn't know there was so many games with sub resolution on it.. It's the exact same deal actually..

4 out of the 13 listed?

The list also doesn't includes the likes of WWHD and Smash Bros. which are both 1080p.

Just put in average framerate. There are plenty of performance sites.

as long as its good looking. res won't matter to me
This is one of the biggest misbelief these days...
"Looking good" is dependent on the native resolution of the TV. Pixel per pixel mapping is what makes a game look crisp and give it this "Wow" effect. Any game running in a lower than the displays res needs to be upscaled. So in order to run the image in full screen the scaler(s) have to "create" information that does not exist, resulting in artifacts, jaggies and blurr. Tvs and software can only do so much.

It's the first source in the OP ;)

Right, it's just a very useful link that's worth looking at for its own sake, IMO. Does a good job of throwing off people who insist that last gen was 99% 720p or 99% sub-HD, since it shows that both were quite prevalent.

Yeah, as others said "The order" is design choice for a cinematic feel. Not because of technicalities which may be the first impression.

It's a combination of the two. It gives the game a cinematic feel, but it also greatly reduces the number of pixels needing to be processed (25% less).

That's still a surprise to me cause i was under the feeling the superiority of the WiiU hardware would give better multi than current gen consoles..

It depends on the developer. Ports of previously released games put out to make launch don't really say a lot.

If we are to take them at their word, it's 1080@30fps. Having seen the various videos and images of Second Son I haven't counted the pixels or anything, but I'm usually pretty good at spotting these things and it seems like it's true 1080p.

There's one screenshot that looks kind of upscaled for infamous second son, but the rest seem native, is this just bad capture?

Eww, if the final game looks like that I'll seriously reconsider buying the game. That barely looks better than Infamous 1 or 2.

This. As long as the image looks sharp, textures are crisp and the gameplay is smooth why would I (or anyone) care?

The image won't look sharp if the resolution does not match the resolution of your display. It will look like shit.

Not confirmed, but it's been suggested that Dead Rising 3 is using a dynamic resolution of some kind. But looking at the screens, I think it's probably another game that will have been upscaled to 1080p.

If you don't care about resolution, don't go to a resolution thread. It's not that hard is it?

Image "sharpness" is directly related to resolution, BTW.

The framerate in Infamous seems to be unlocked, so it's hovering between 30 and 60.

Anyone know the resolution for Need for Speed Rivals???
They just confirmed it's 30fps across all platforms - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-23-why-need-for-speed-rivals-runs-at-30-frames-per-second

It's odd that we don't have the resolution for Watchdogs especially with all the info we got
Yeah, it's weird. Post first reveal there was a downgrade so it's understandable why they're not talking IQ specifics ..

Because it's not good publicity. And because those games aren't finished. And perhaps there'll be differences between the PS4 and Xbone versions. It's so easy to present PC renders to the press that are very different from how the next gen versions will look.

Interesting thread....kind of wish we had a separate gaming section with lists like these that people can reference

Yep very good thread and I, just like you, think that having "reference" threads like this one could be a very good thing.

And Mods could make a special pinned thread where we could find all the links to the "reference" threads

Looks like a bad capture (1920x540). Might be due to 4:2:0 compression for the video capture or something like that. The other shots are 1080p with some sort of AA (horrible compression).

Yeah, it'd be nice if there was a list of referential threads in the forum archive perhaps, or maybe a GAF wiki of some sort?

Thanks, good to know! Originally thought it would be a dynamic resolution but I haven't seen any other shots with that res.

Nah. They have more than enough headroom anyway. The game is reported to currently run at 60fps, or close to anyway (average around 50fps). They're targeting 30fps so they have a lot of wiggle room for polish and added visual clarity.

They should leave it running at 50FPS.
