Have you ever genuinely wanted a game to fail?

Most people want a game to fail because they dont like the direction a team is heading and fear the posibility of finding success there. With that in mind used to want Watch_dogs to fail but ive seen that Ubisoft is practically the only third party publisher that has learned that not every games needs to be a $60 trillion seller and is branching out with games like Rayman and Call to Juarez.

I hope Donkey Kong flops so Retro can move on to anything different. Nintendo's coming orgy of platformers is just a reflection of team managers asking their crews "Which product can we produce faster?, they will most likely be good, but them next to each other and you can see thats its derivative and redundant stuff. Which is a damn shame because they are failing to create a successful environment to their more interesting stuff like TW101 and X.

It's awful because TW101 and X will sell like crap compared to the plataformers, so we'll get more of those.

Yes, Megaman 9. At that time Sega was releasing Sonic Unleashed with a huge budget and Capcom made this low effort, nostalgia BS instead of giving Megaman full HD treatment (3D megaman, Great graphics, TPS).

People call me all sorts of stuff, I got a couple of Warnings at Gamefaqs, couple with a massive Karma loss because of how blunt I was. But I just though that if the game succeeded Capcom will never put Megaman in the front lines along with Street Fighter and Resident Evil again.

Mega Man 9?!?!?!?1 You're insane, it's one of the best Mega Man games ever made.

I think it was GENIUS how they created a retro Mega Man game after so many years. Sadly... 10 was disappointing.

I always feel a bit saddened when I see a game succeed that does something which I consider anti-consumer or pushes the gaming industry in a negative direction: Diablo 3 with its forceful always-on DRM, Mass Effect 3 with its Origin exclusivity, the "From Ashes" controversy (and dismissing it by saying "real fans" would buy Collector's Edition anyway), Sim City's DRM, Assassin's Creed 2's PC DRM, Persona 4 Battle's Region Locking (a terrible black stain on an otherwise excellent title) etc.

To a lesser extent, I also feel a bit sad when I see lackluster sequels receiving praise and great selling numbers, like Resident Evil 6, but I don't really don't want the game to fail, I just wish those people had, in my opinion, better taste in their purchasing decisions.

I remembered another one. I really want If My Heart Had Wings to fail, because of how extensively it has been censored. I don't mind cutting out the few sex scene it had, that was understable, but they even removed any kissing or sexual jokes, which was just plain going way to far.

I don't care about the quality of the game, I wanted to fail because of what it represented. Megaman as a cheap nostalgia Cash in instead of a full fledge mascot game like Sonic, Mario and Racket & Clank.

any halo game. cants stand em and ppl rave about an average fps game. well at least it is average in my opinion

Yes, there is one game which actually turned pretty good, but at the same time it doesn't live up to its legacy gameplay or atmosphere, of course even then I am totally aware the legacy gameplay and direction is not coming back, thanks to greedy publishers that want every single game to sell over 7Million copies.

DmC Devil May Cry.

Mainly because it tried to turn the series into something that it wasn't. It was a decent game in the end, but Ninja Theory's Dante is a horrible character.

Why is DmC Dante a horrible character?
Yeah I know. It's not as if they ruined a wonderfully nuanced, deeply affected character study. Old Dante was a smarmy, floppy haired effeminate pansy.

At least NT's Dante looked kinda badass.

He was a huge improvement IMO.

Only when every other game gets infected by "that uber popular game" like Call of Duty for example.

That said GTA's sandbox is the only exception viva la sandbox!

Any Ubisoft games really. Unfortunately they sell. I would like them to fail so they can make better games. So many wasted man power for these games...

We do realize that people make games to feed their families right??

Not to satisfy some insane fanboys insatiable needs.

Shaking my damn head...

I don't own a PS3, so usually I hope all PS3 exclusives fail horribly. When they do I laugh and imagine myself burning an effigy of Kaz Hirai. When the sales numbers show up I sometimes shed a single tear.

no. any game worth thinking about was made by creative people who tried hard to make it good. I wouldn't wish for failure. If it's a bad game, then people won't buy it and that'll be that. But I'm not going to hope bad things on people who worked on something and created it.

Nope. I think it's silly and childish to want a game to fail. As much as one can hate or dislike something, we're talking about the livelihoods of people here. Just don't buy it if you don't like it.

Madden... If only to force EA to cease with the mediocre updates in their yearly releases and end their NFL license monopoly.

Secretly Titan Fall, because I want to see it on PS4 sooner. I feel horrible saying that, I actually like the devs :(

wanting something to fail because of their own opinions is pretty close to being crazy and really shows how a lot people do not perceive anything outside of their own little bubble.

It's literally a picture of an effeminate dude, with floppy hair, clasping a flower in his mouth. And you use that picture to prove how I'm wrong?

OK then.

Dude's face looks pretty masculine if you ask me.

If that's effeminate then I must not know what a girl looks like.

Anyway, DmC. I'm not even that big a Devil May cry fan, but fuck DmC.

You don't understand! If a game fails the developer will magically make better games. It's not like the publisher will shelve the franchise, only good things can happen.

I like the way new Dante is mad about old Dante's taste for style XD

Also DmC is very good, so much better than 4, I never liked old Dante anyways.

The game I really wanted to fail was GTA V is not that I hate GTA but I hate people that play only GTA and think they're masters of gamming. Well... maybe next time XD

Say what you like about Dante but he is not effeminate at all. Floppy-haired and smarmy yes. I had no intention of buying DmC (played 1-3) but the character switch from this:

Made me genuinely wish for this game to fail.

What happened? I used to love Runescape. My friend was pretty excited about this.

The big change is that they completely remade and streamlined the combat to introduce action bars and hotkeys along with revamping some other things like the UI. It might sound good on paper but the laid-back and unique combat in Runescape was one of the things that set it apart from other MMOs to me. Unique things like special attacks (removed completely), runes and special spells are all obsolete because you spam a few abilities no matter what you use or do and that's it. I was also shocked to see how many microtransactions have been put into it, it's heavily advertised and part of it is RNG-based.

I could write more detailed but it'd be a wall, I was very into this game before :p

So many ways? Just seems wrong in the one way, to me. It is linear and derivative. But that doesn't make it dogshit.

It isn't even that gameplay wise. During the combat sections the environments open up quite a bit and you can aproach it in so many ways.

Yeah, but not that it would be a problem if it would be strictly linear...

I don't even know what it's supposed to mean that it is derivative lol. Which game isn't?

I wanted Dante's Inferno to fail. The massacring of classical literature, the absurd amount of the game design they flat out stole from God of War, the faux-outrage marketing campaign. Everything about that project was offensive.

Madden.

That NFL exclusivity deal resulted in the quality standstill we all predicted. If Madden doesn't sell well enough to make the deal worthwhile - then competition will result in higher quality football games (including Madden).

Just CoD so others stop trying to copy the formula and move on in a way that we might get some more unique FPS games again that are actually fun to play and not an endless grind to the next worthless carrot.

Every Call of Duty.
I have been wanting it to fail since around MW3ish.

I don't even really hate it that much i just want it to die so we can start doing something else. I want it to fail for the same reasons i wanted dumb fucking music instrument based games to fail (IE Guitar Hero and Rockband)
