New Metal Gear Solid V Day Time Demo: Must Watch!

Lol enemies being tagged like Batman Arkham... don't tell me you can turn it off, tagging enemies is part of this game, thats why Kojima is demonstrating it every chance he gets to show what kind of changes he made to the MGS formula.

I don't want more Big Boss stuff :/

Of course I'm still going to play it.

I would personally like a game with The Boss, but until that becomes reality I would like to see how everything unravels with Big Boss and his dark past. GZ and TPP is the most interesting time in his life as a soldier imo; this is when we get to see his "Darth Vader" transformation.

Might want to change the thread title then.

It's the same game... just some propaganda bullshit by Kojima.

Hence why they showed the MGS V trailer immediately after the demonstration and why they listed the game name as Metal Gear Solid V under every stream description.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
The lighting is definitely the FOX Engines ace. Looks like we're going to get a "Classic Metal Gear" mode. I am now re-excited.

I hope Konami gets this footage online in 1080p60 before too long. It's no good exciting us by throwing '60FPS' around; ya gotta show it.

I don't understand how tag the enemies and the x-ray can be easier that the radar from MGS1, when you can even see the direction that the enemy was looking

People are complaining about nothing

The graphics are decent but the gameplay looks like the same old clunky MGS mechanics, still rooted in 1997 (which were already old in the PS3 generation). They missed an opportunity to completely reboot them and made something modern. As usual, shooting (lethal weapons) looks tedious and you're punished for choosing the rough way instead of sneaking.

Sort of looks like Crysis 3rd person gameplay featuring Snake. Not sure about how the open world gameplay will affect the story/pacing of other MGS games, but I'm pretty sure the game will turn out just fine.

Game looks great, especially the animations.

Not sure how I feel about all the action and explosions at the end, but it looks good nonetheless.

He let himself get spotted and decided to engage the enemies so of course there's going to be lots of shooting. What's your point?

Yeah I'm so damn tired of Big Boss. Make a game on Liquid Snake or Solidus.
That would be great, but I think that the next MGS will be a remake of Metal Gear 1 (the msx, not solid). Specially if the Kojima-san really retire of the series (as he always promises)

Lol dat sony casette procduct placement in daytime video :p
Dam quick time here seems on the same level as fuck as with ryse hope you can disable it.

I didn't even play metal gears solid games but the E3 demo had me intrigued so maybe it was always part of the game bullet/quick time?

no. this is a first.

Loved what I saw. Stealth looks great, the tagging of enemies seems to me like something they had to do because of its an open world game, without it you'd probably get spotted a lot more. The combat seems standard for a Metal Gear game being played on easy.

Need that 1080p60fps video!

tbh i been losing interest for this game more and more. First it was me not being in the game. Now regenerating health, slow motion during alert, less cut scenes....so much changes for a fanboy like me.
WTF IS THIS XRAY VISION SHIT!? thats so cheap..no codec?

If this didn't have the MGS name on it the game would be a typical action TPS. Also "Open World" my ass...its just a big ass military base.

After playing GTAV...this game is not close to being an sandbox game, no need to advertise that.
Kojima is making MGS too over the top now. I loved Peace Walker's gameplay but the story was horrible....i mean
The Boss is an AI?!
and all those big ass Sci fi robots you had to fight were ridiculous...Those robots made Metal Gear Ray and Rex look like shit.

I really hope this game has a good story at least.

At about 10:16 in this footage you can see that the basic weapon wheel seems to branch off into sub-weapon-wheels; he has grenades in the right hand slot, but then he's able to go into that menu to pick what kind of explosive he wants to use. It looks like it's controlled with the D-pad, so I imagine you'd hit right on the D-pad to select your grenade, or double-tap it to change your selected explosive. Having a limited loadout is something I really didn't like in Peace Walker, so I'm really glad to see they're back to the ol' Metal Gear thing of carrying around every crazy weapon and item you find.

Interestingly he switches them without breaking out of his sprint, is he using 'the claw', or is there a normal weapon wheel and the dpad just represents shortcuts?
I think for guns you'll still be limited to having two strapped guns + one temporary one in your hands but it's not clear. Edit: I see the sniper rifle gets strapped to his back now, cool, and then he temporarily grabs a 4th gun!

I usually reach my right thumb over to the left analogue stick and use the D-pad with my left thumb when I need to do something like that in a game (and on the 360 I just use my right thumb on the D-pad), but he could be clawing it up.

You know that Ground Zeroes is just the prologue right?
The full game will have much more than just a base. In the e3 trailer we already see the Afghanistan desert and probably some African country

And don't believe so much in the "less cutscenes" promise, it's a Kojima game

This is Ground Zeroes, not the main game. Ground Zeroes comes out first and is basically a prologue featuring what are basically "real-life" VR missions – training wheels for the good stuff. Or I should say the best stuff, as GZ looks really fun on its own.

Big Boss roaring during the shee-q-shee seems kind of dumb if it's supposed to be taken as stealth.

As a diehard MGS fan I don't get why people are excited by this. This thing plays like Call of Duty, not MGS.

It's very clearly different, but calling it Call of Duty-like is a Facebook worthy comment. Having played a good load of Call of Duty, it's nothing like this. The closest comparison you can draw is the health regen, and I'm still looking to see it in action.

Edit: Well, I was at the half-way point. It does get a little combat bullet-eating heavy near the end, doesn't it?

Tagging enemies is not what's annoying to me it's the fact you get X-Ray vision from it. It's fine if you can spot an enemy and put that little orange cursor over their heads. That's fine. The whole seeing through walls thing with x-ray vision is just dumb and doesn't feel right in the context of the game or look right. Even SS in MGS4 couldn't see through walls, why can Big Boss in 1979?

Also again it needs to be said the slowdown to avoid alerts needs to go. If you are already allowing us to Tag enemies there really should be no reason to ON TOP of that if we are dumb enough to get caught, make it so that we receive a get out of jail free card.

Also it needs to be said, it's been over 10 years since MGS2 so WHY is the AI dumber. When soldiers going missing from their posts no one get suspicious, they don't send out patrols or replace the guard. This was basic stuff in MGS2 for god sakes.

Another thing that I've noticed throughout all these trailers. No caution state. There has not once been a point where Snake is seen or whatever and then hides from the guards and they search for him. It seems to be either stealth the whole way or alter phase that never goes away that leads to a shoot out. Hiding to get ride of caution was one of the most intense and fun moments of Metal Gear. You finally have an open world to play hide and seek in but instead we play shoot'em up.

It's just missing too many "good" things from past MGS games. I don't mind change in progress if it's out with the bad in with the good but there seems to be a lot of out with the good in with the bad or generic. It's quite frankly annoying.

From the E3 trailer, it also just look like long level. The trailer makes it look like Big Boss is just saving Kaz and thats it for that level.

i think the game will just have a bunch of large level designs. You finish your missions and move to another level.

The super arcade-y stuff like the Peace Walker-style CQC slam and the casual jump off a three-story watchtower stick out like a sore thumb in an otherwise great looking game.

The last-gen style explosions were pretty noticeable too.

As I a huge MGS fan, I *really* want to love this game.

That being said, those two videos did not really blow my skirt up... :p The whole game looks dated from gameplay to graphics.

:(

Didn't like the x-ray vision, but since it's only for tagged enemies it's not such a big deal.

Action gameplay looks a little clunky, but that could just be the player.

Open-ended approach to stealth gameplay can actually work when done properly, and I love how ridiculously everything escalates when the player is spotted. Harder difficulties, where you can't just soak up so much damage, could be amazing.

If there really are substantially fewer (terrible) cutscenes, as Kojima has promised, I think this game will be something very special.

Agree with everyone who's actually looking past the visuals. From a gameplay perspective it definitely looks a little worrying. It just doesn't look very Metal Gear Solid, to me.

Looks better than the last demo, but I still get the feeling that tackling open world has turned out to be a bit of a mistake. A lot of the new stuff I'm seeing in the gameplay is looking less and less like what I loved about MGS gameplay, and more like a developer desperately trying to catch up on certain popular things in the AAA space spearheaded by western developers in the last few years.

It's really hard to be impressed by any attempt at open world action when I'm playing GTAV too, and I think the comparisons at this stage will be really hard not to make, since there are a lot of similarities in the scenarios shown and some of what you do in GTAV. Except one game is actually out right now, and much more impressive and vast in scope, while another is merely being demoed in a very limited way at TGS with no release date in sight.

Might be a bit of unfortunate timing on Kojima's part. :(
