mmm yeah I got a big ol' wang, come crowd round my man tower ladies mmm hmm

But for all the people who "care" about performance, and cite it as a reason to buy one console over another, what the hell is stopping you from just building a better PC two years ago?

I couldn't care less about PC gaming, but love gaming on my consoles. Not sure what's hard to understand.

Can it play:

The Last of Us
Beyond
inFamous
Ratchet & Clank (non-PS2/PSP titles)
Uncharted
Killzone (non PS2/PSP titles)
Kingdom Hearts 3
Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy XIII... onwards
God of War

Then I don't care.

So, I just got a new rig from work. 128gb of RAM, two or three Titans in it. Intel core... whatever or some shit.

This thing is blasting through games like a hot knife through butter. Outputting to two 60" Pioneer Kuros right now, and I can't believe what I'm seeing. As I'm tearing through the highest-end games like they're a joke, I realize that the visual "wow" factor for upgrading to new consoles will be all but lost on me.

And I was thinking that, okay, this is an exception. Most people wouldn't have access to this kind of setup. But that's not true. Even with the PS4, big deal -- I could have built that PC two years ago.

My laptop from 2008 is smaller, quieter, and by all accounts, performs better.

Maybe Kinect will do something that makes the Xbone a differentiated experience. Who knows. But for all the people who "care" about performance, and cite it as a reason to buy one console over another, what the hell is stopping you from just building a better PC two years ago?

Timed exclusives? Please.

I have seen the top of the mountain, and it is good.

But can you play GTAV on it.

Looks like another spawn of the master race has wriggled its way through the birth canal. Congrats!

Stable platforms, something for devs. to target on multi-year projects, install base, yadda yadda.

Games released in what most people would think is a finished form without having to download endless bug fixes & patches...

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
The system you describe neither sounds main-stream or affordable OP. Why are you disregarding standardized performance benefits of consoles or other "targeted spec" devices?

I still think its easy to justify a PC as the best gaming value if you use the machine for anything else in addition gaming but I'm not blind to the fact that some people want to use a dedicated entertainment device on the cheap without having to spec their rig for something they don't do all the time.

all PC elitists should care about the new consoles raising the high bar because even though the PC has all this power, they still get ports of games designed for systems w/ less than 512MB accessible and GPU's that are extremely outdated and inefficient.

I build my own PC's, buy consoles, handhelds, i'm follow GPU tech constantly, and I know the PC is a lot more powerful. It's supposed to be, BUT... i'm always aware of the fact that the PC is limited to getting ports of console games. I'm excited about the PS4 not because I'm wow'd at the specs inside of it, but because I know that it's moving the low bar up SIGNIFICANTLY. This means the PC will still get versions of games designed on the consoles, but they'll be designed with 5GB RAM and 1.3-1.8 Tflop GPUs DX11+ vs the shitty sub 512MB / 240gflop dx9 crap we've been getting. This mean PC games will see a big upgrade in IQ to use all that power and contrary to what elitists say, the new consoles will bring significant bumps to image quality.

Remember when the PC had its own incredible AAA exclusives, and it wasn't just about getting better framerates and resolution in console ports?

Consoles have never (and maybe will never) trump the performance of a dedicated gaming PC. Among sane people, that's never been the debate. If that's what you were hoping, I think you're expecting too much from these new consoles.

I feel like letting people on here know that not all PC gamers are elitists and plenty of us enjoy console games too.

Not everyone has the need to brag every two seconds or put down any other way of entertainment because last time I checked, we're all here to play and talk about games because we enjoy them, but sometimes it feels like people enjoy arguing more than the actual act of PLAYING.

I'm sure I'm not a "real" PC gamer by saying this though even though I've been around longer than most and was a fellow modder of the BF series back wehn Demize was just a modder as well. :D

If you can make it play read dead redemption and platinium games, today after work im burning my savings on that rig

I think OP fails to realize that not everybody wants a jet engine next to the TV in their house

Also I'd like to officially start the rumor that OP is really an international art thief embezzling his money through NVIDIA GPUs :p

This argument always struck me as supremely weak because the answer is so obvious.

I have a gaming level PC. The reason why I still care about power and look for that is because there are plenty of console games that never come to the PC, and it is important to me that those games look as good as is reasonably possible.

It matters to me that PS4 is significantly more powerful than Xbox One. It's a better value, yes, but it impacts the games that come to the platform, many of which won't show up on PC. If we're going to start counting beans about just what percentage of the library is really like that, I think we can save time and skip it because that also holds no weight. If there is even one game on the entire platform that does not come to PC, I want to play it on the system that has the most power. Many multiplatform and exclusive titles did not come to PC throughout last gen, the same will be true this gen even as the percentage diminishes.

Because there is a reason they are the "special" few. They're better then most of those thousands upon thousands.

I've always had a hard time understanding the exclusivity fervor for those very few console elite series. How many of those thousands upon thousands of games have you played that you can make that kind of statement? I mean, you have one machine that can play games going back to the 80s for almost all consoles ever built, along with almost all new games, and so many new games coming out each month that you couldn't play half of them if you sat there 24/7 speedrunning as fast as you could. For me personally, there's no way one or two upcoming games could ever outweigh all that.

Wait what the fuck? Why is there 128gb of RAM in there? That sounds like BS to me. I've never seen a PC with that much RAM before. 32gb maybe, but not 128gb. Maybe you mean a 128gb SSD?

Where do we even need next-gen consoles if it's all about "Uncharted and Halo"? They already exist, do we really insist on buying them again?

The point isn't specifically Uncharted and Halo. The point is that there are exclusive games on consoles, and people buy hardware to play games they want.
