How are impressions selected? I wrote a long-ish impression about Pixel This that was relatively negative and it didn't get put up, yet two short and quick positive ones got picked and added fairly quickly after they were up. Is there a process or are you just picking whatever you fancy?

I like the Picross game.

Is it intended that deleted blocks cannot be "put back?" Does a screw up require restarting the puzzle?

You didn't read the description before buying, did you? To quote the very first lines:

"iOS7, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s Support (as of 2013/09/24, modified out of 2013/09/18 ver.)
We are currently working on support for this title to run properly on the updated iOS and devices. We cannot guarantee that the game will run properly until we finish that work. Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience."

Same is true for Ghost Trick. Really annoying, wanted to replay Ghost Trick on iOS last week, but it keeps crashing over and over again. Hope they'll fix it soon.

gonna take time to recompile and also add cheap borders to be 'fully optimized for iphone 5 screen' lol.

Man, Puzzle Quest was unbalanced and crap when it was paid-for, I dread to think what a licensed free-to-play version would be like

You must be talking about Puzzle Quest 2, because Puzzle Quest 1 was amazing. Spent probably over 50 hours on that game running through different a couple different classes.

The real thing no one is really talking about is this, Transport Tycoon.

It's hard to go back to PQ's style of match 3 after playing Puzzles and Dragons.

I appreciate Puzzle Quests' magic system though, P&D never came across as having as much depth as in PQ1, where you could chain spells to convert the board to like 2 colors, and score a dozen 5-tile matches, and the free turn aspect with the 4-tile matches along with the hazards and sharing the same board so you have to weigh your choices vs what you're leaving your opponent to do gave it a big edge for me. A few of the alternate game modes were a lot of fun as well, where you needed to collect resources to research spells, etc.

Anybody playing Samurai Siege?

It's a Clash of Clans clone but still looks very interesting.

I don't know how to play it though so anyone got any instructions?

I tend to stay away from those games. Anytime you mix freemium and competitive / coperative gameplay, it always ends badly. Either you spend money you really shouldn't have had to or you hit a wall and realize you are wasting your time trying to 'keep up with joneses'.

Unless you are someone that can block that competitive voice in your head and just enjoy it as a time waster.

OP update

New games released in an app store near you soon™:

My absolute favourite PC game of all time, updated and adapted to iOS with no IAPs. It's thee business transport simulation game, which I still play ever so often almost 20 years after it originally came out. iOS UI looks well adapted. Just as an example of what craziness one can do with railroads, here's a video from OpenTTD: http://youtu.be/vk8vdZ1AVj8

Junior, please.
Not that I don't want Transport Tycoon to do well, but I was quite disappointed with the beta. I found the UI pretty frustrating and the new graphics are very unappealing, it's just so many shades of grey, olive, brown and dark red.

I was really hoping for something along the lines of OpenTTD with a good touch interface, but sadly that's not the case. At least they kept the original MIDI music.

Any new GAF challenges in work? Wouldn't mind having them without prices, just like the competition :)

Transport Tycoon is a favorite of mine, but this version doesn't look so hot. I remember how poor Sim City is on iOS.

Yeah, I was disappointed to see nothing but fawning to a game that has some obvious shortcomings.

I dunno, for free the game is pretty great! I had fun, and will probably pick up a pack or two eventually.

Transport General is another option, it's a straight up TT clone. Both HD and regular versions are Free atm, down from $4.99. (I wonder why!)

Random question for you guys.

Are force Facebook logins a deal breaker for anyone else? I don't want to share my personal data willy nilly and will delete a app or games if it requires Facebook login.

No.

They all have the setting to skip the posting parts and/or the option to limit such posts to "Only Me" visibility if I deem that needed. With fb integration in iOS it's just seamless for me.
That or I just login with a throw away fb account used for these things and promotions.

You should avoid it, it's got IAP up the A-hole!

I got it last week when it went free and played it for about an hour. I really enjoyed it despite the controls being kind of janky.

I kept with it until I went to make another station and it told me I'd have to pay more money to get a station permit or something. If I had payed $4.99 for it and it THEN asked me to pay more for building stations I would be PISSED!

I deleted it right then and there but it made me realise that I'd like a game like that on my iPhone.

I picked up Transport Tycoon today so we'll see how that goes.

Yeah, as a first app and foray into iOS it is a fantastic effort, and the creator should be proud of his achievement. However, I am just annoyed that the other side of the story hasn't been represented - it's a great app for people just entering picross and wanting to dip their toe in, but the puzzles are seriously trivial for anyone who has played picross before. Like I've said, Pixelogic and Pixelogic Daily have daily puzzles that are 15x15 or 20x20 and a puzzle creator, along with a set of puzzles that range from 5x5 and increase incrementally all the way to 20x20.

There are problems with that app too, and I was hoping this would remedy a couple problems, but it really is striving for something else entirely.

Not sure if I am having fun with Pocket Trains. Why can't I customize the trains/engineers? Also randomly breaking down stinks. Where are the cool metrics for each train (distance traveled, cargo shipped)

Deal breaker for me too if it's oligatory. If it gets even more widespread I'll probably use a fake account for games I really want to play but even then it's annoying. I have a feeling SE's FF Agito will feature some sort of FB integration and that will be one I don't want to pass up.

I've never done it, and if bypassing it is in any way obfuscated I'll delete the app.

There is a new Global Challenge going on right now for Sonic Dash:

The reward is Blaze the Cat. There is a general feeling in the community that Hardlight made the requirements for passing each stage ridiculously high. They also only gave us 9 days to complete all four stages. For the first 5 days, we were still stuck in the first stage. The progress bar fills up depending on your final score which is converted into points.

Some people realized that the reward points distribution is messed up. Getting 100K awards 9 points for example. Getting over a million gives you about 13, and the award doesn't increase until you hit 4.5 million! So if any of y'all want to help, it is highly recommended to crash at 100K and start over for the most points per hour. With a max multiplier (20x), this can be achieved before or just after the first springboard.

Weird. Kingdom Rush 1 just got an update with two new levels, two new heroes, five new enemies, and a new boss.

What aspect of your personal data do you not wish to share with games?
