Is the Mario Galaxy Comet Observatory in Mario 3D World?

There we go, people will get their much-missed tiny hubworld with zero opportunity for real exploration :)

The observatory was awesome.

It looks like PomPom has traded in her boomerang for a shuriken with a bow on it.
Who wants to nab this and make it a GAF hype train?

They look another alike other than their both floating platforms with buildings.
You're not looking at the right thing. The picture is a little confusing what its pointing at but what the op is talking about has the exact same shape as the observatory.

The more I look at that official art, the more I feel that it's the first time they nailed the feeling of the hand-drawn Mario artwork from the NES/SNES with the 3D models. That little Koopa Troopa trying to get his shell just keeps catching my eye. Everything has a slightly softer edge to it. The colors are just a bit lighter - just enough.

It needs to be next month already.

I was just thinking that. The artwork at least really has the SMW vibe.

Yea I didn't bother looking at the zoomed in picture for some reason because I'm dumb.

Yeah it feels like what NSMB tried to do but continually failed to fully capture (NSMBU came closest). I love the lighting on all of the characters

Couldn't agree more.

One of the many nice touches I loved about 3D Land was the return of Kotabe's art. And now, not only is it making a return again, it actually looks like the 3D art matches it.

I can't wait to see what the "second half" of the game is like.

I'm not so sure if we should be thrilled to see the Comet Observatory. I mean, it was a fairly cumbersome hub world in the first Galaxy game. The sequel's smaller, rounded hub world was a lot better. Maybe it just means that Rosalina is involved with those colored pixies or assigns green star missions.

Hopefully it isn't shit like it was in Super Mario Galaxy. Only thing good about it was being able to fly using the Red Star.

first half of game: shitty bland 3d land style

second half of game: FUCKING GALAXY 3
The art is awesome here and it looks pretty great from images shown. Also 3D Land was a ton of fun.

No worries I did the same thing. I think its just the image points at the amusement park but you don't realize the large image is of it zoomed in.

Oh hell yes. More signs that Nintendo is not fucking around with this one. Would love some Galaxy-esque levels, I'm a fan of that hub as well. Great Mario-in-space atmosphere.

There have been plenty of box arts that feature elements not actually in the game - could just be a little wink to the audience keeping the Mario universe consistent.

So I don't know about getting hopes up over this...

yeah, I mean I love me some good hub worlds and Galaxy was my favorite game of the gen... but the observatory was shit.

so good

Mario and Co got that stale crap out of their systems and regained their personality

Hilarious how many people can't see it, even when it's right there in front of them. Some of the comments in the link are pretty vicious about it too. lol.

I blame the indicator circling the entire theme park and how faded the observatory is. Took me reading the thread to finally realize what I was looking for even after reading the OP.

Can't wait for the game to have one or two homage levels to Galaxy like Galaxy itself had of previous games, only to be shitted on by the usual crowd who somehow is expecting not one but two complete HD remakes.

Great art, but I didn't exactly miss the hub world from Galaxy 1. In fact, it's removal is one the reasons I find Galaxy 2 superior.

It'd be cool to revisit some of the levels though, like Throwback Galaxy did in SMG2
