Xbox One: Built for the future

Cmerrill

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
"Xbox, go to Collection"

All your games are there. Alternatively,

"Xbox, go to Ryse" (or any other game or app you want to use)

Fastest navigation out there.

I'm a Sony fan boy and even I think that's cool, as long as it actually works quickly and without hesitation.

I boot up my PS3 and with one downwards press of the d-pad, I start browsing my digital games library. You have to jump through a bunch of hoops to do the same thing on the 360, and even then, it's slower to scroll through your entire library.

I can't see the Xbox One being any different, but its too early to see if Sony have bloated the PS4's UI or not. I hope not. The speed and functionality of the XMB has been consistent over the entire life of the PS3 and has been glorious.

RB, RB, A.
(Home, Social, Games, My Games)

That is a bunch of hoops?

For gaming focus, asking for the game is the fastest.

You can also pin games just to the left.

Lastly - when you launch Focus is on the Main tile, which will be the last thing you were doing (even after startup).

Albert I have a question and sorry if this was answered before.

Is there Smart Glass functionality on the Xbox One that lets me boot up games or apps while it's Off/Sleep state?

Here's a scenario, I come back home from whatever and as I go in to my house I pull out my smartphone go to Smart Glass and select X game to load, so that by the time I get to my bedroom the TV is on and the game loaded, and if it's a multiplayer game its already in matchmaking.

Launching games by voice is a lot less useful after the 180 since you'll need to disc. Just another reason to buy games digitally though

That's "Dr." dofry to you.

Well it's just a tradeoff between convenience for you, or borrowing to a friend. You choose digital and you do the voice stuff. You choose physical and do it differently.

So you'll need the disc, unless you don't need the disc. Got it.

He is saying that before the 180 he could have bought the disc and still done diskless game swapping, and also still been able to trade it in afterwards if he so chose. Just throwing that last part in there.

Is the console going to be more liberal with disk authentication?

If I can ask for a game to quick start, is it immediately going to ask for the disk? or can I begin the game and insert the disk within a set time (say 10-15 min)?

(I'm assuming all games next gen will be installed on the HD)

Yeah not feeling that ps4 UI at all. Damn. For the past 6 months I have been way more in favored of getting the ps4 but I think I'm going to be joining you guys in the darkside now.

I get people have preferences, but man ... that looks like the UI of a modern DVD/Blu Ray player. They need to ditch the overbearing blue for starters.

It's their brand colour, it persists across their product packaging, marketing, etc.

There's room for improvement, but it wouldn't be wise for them to use a,different colour. Consistency is key in brand association and retention.

How much time do you spend using the UI? For me it's like 30 seconds to start the game then I never see it again the rest of the night.

I'm one of those weird people who think it's what happens after you tell the UI what to do that matters.

Saw the PS4 video and love the UI, simple and clean just how it should be. MS needs to get rid of their UI people and throw the ads away. BTW in that video if you fast forward like 3 min he stops talking and music just plays.

There is brand colour and then there is slapping it on everything, I don't see a boogey green background on the Xbox One UI.

You do realize you can change it to whatever you want, right? Not only that by highlighting a particular game it changes the background to that game's splash image.

Just watched the video and this is the biggest bullshit there is. Microsoft is embarrassing themselves by keep stating that Cloud Computing will improve Xbox gaming while there is no game whatsoever that offloads core parts of the game (graphics or other stuff) now or announced for the Xbox One. This is a scheme, one of the worst I've seen in the gaming industry.
The system hasn't even come out yet, lol

Do you have a pic video I could take a gander at? I've not seen much of the PS4 UI, the little bits I have it's just looked cluttered and messy, like the friends feed? I think it was.

He has a point, though went off the deep end a bit. We have seen this kind of talk from EA with Sim City and that was a disaster, the cloud is great for some things, but off loading certain elements of games may have huge repercussions.

I think we are assuming this because the ps3 allows multiple colors. I would assume they would do the same with the ps4. Not 100% guaranteed, but do not see why they would not allow it.

Here we go with the "Sony too" stuff again

They can, do not know why you are trying to start an argument. They have Gaikai... Also they did it in the past with PS3 games. So yeah, they can do it.

Seriously wondering if this is sarcasm or not. It's the equivalent of switching preorders because one system has a usb port on the side instead of the back.

I just find it funny that everyone is now a Cloud expert and can tell Microsoft how they don't know what the hell they talking about
I just don't see Microsoft lying like this when its being touted as its main feature
Very different than the Kinect 1.0 promises that were not delivered until now
If Microsoft says this is what the XB1 is going to be about, I believe them

Web browser seem decent, but is it all time in "windows" mode? no full screen browsing?
Switch between app very snappy, Notification look a step up from vita, everything get categorize.Overall feel like XMB 2.0, I'm happy with that.

Xbone UI look great as always, I hope you can customize the background.

Pretty sure you can make it full screen just like on the PS3.

Not sarcasm at all. It's way more important than "a USB port in the wrong spot". It's about the complete package. Same reason I'm an iphone user instead of an android. There are plenty of phones on the android side that have better specs, but the simplicity and elegance of ios just works for me. That's how I feel here. I don't use my consoles strictly for gaming, so yes I would use the UI more frequently. It's all opinions though. What works for me won't for others

Well that is good that you believe them, but many of us have seen what happens when companies do this. That is why a lot of people are skeptical. We have seen it crash and burn before. MS isn't above lying. For instance: they said no ads would be on the Xbox One main screen, and guess what? There are ads on the main screen.

WHAT? Simple and clean is what you like? How in the world do you not like the XMB? it's whole point is to be simple and elegant... YOu have contradicted yourself in your argument.
