Watch Dogs delayed until the Spring of 2014 (after April 1st)

This is a huge surprise. Adverts can be seen for the game all over the net since several months. This game must cost Ubisoft a fortune. I don't know if it's somehow related to GTA V, a crowded Holiday, the fact the game is on every platforms or next-gen development on unfinished hardware, but that's not a good sign.

I do suspect it's not quite ready even with it being stated as mainly for financial reasons, otherwise why not just move it to January through March? Unless it's just to bolster the next Fiscal Year immediately anyway.

If it really WAS just for financial reasons and to keep it away from ACIV as stated then I'd be annoyed. They should've saw that coming a long time ago, and between the two I'd rather have the whole new IP rather than yet more AC.

I would rather have WD than AC as well, but with AC most likely coming out next year as well, I doubt they would want only 6-8 months between AC releases

Yeah, they'd probably rather make WD the spring game and AC the fall game. Well, if this allows either a properly complete game or at least more polish then all the better, and if it really IS just moving stuff around for more convenient timing then it's not the first time Ubisoft's pulled the rug at the last second on something a platform needs sooner than later.

Though come to think of it that'd be twice within a year with just about a month to go. Yeah, whoever's in charge of that shit either needs to get some damn sense or go to a position where they can't do that.

I hope they use that time to make it not look too much like AC, which I assume was the reason for the delay in the first place.

UPDATE: Amazon and GameStop have both confirmed that they will offer those who've pre-ordered the Watch Dogs PS4 bundle the option to receive just a PS4 instead upon the console's launch next month."All orders for the Watch Dogs PlayStation 4 bundle will keep their place in line and we will fulfill the PlayStation 4 (without the Watch Dogs game) in accordance with your current delivery estimate. We are working on adjusting these orders and will update you as soon as we know more," wrote Amazon US on its Watch Dogs PS4 bundle page.

Additionally, a GameStop rep told Polygon that those with pre-orders could either receive the PS4 at launch and then pick up their copy of Watch Dogs when it comes out, or could swap this bundle out for a different one. "Customers can elect to keep their current bundle orders and their consoles will ship as scheduled with the game shipping separately once it is available, or customers can choose another bundle to replace their current order," GameStop explained. "Customers should also note that there may be a difference in the price if selecting another bundle and that all reserved orders will be charged upon shipment."

Damn, one of the 2 PS4 games I was going to buy along with the console on day one...

Now I'll have to choose something else, but what?

Come on Rockstar, GTA V on PS4 November 29th! I'll double dip!

This has probably been posted, but this is seriously going to mess up pre-orders in Europe given the Watchdogs bundle.
Not a big deal. We are talking about a few thousand bundles. At least they get the PS4 at launch. Maybe amazon will give them a voucher or anything but the WD bundle had a pretty low quantity.

They most likely just wanted to have more time to improve it since they saw GTA V and give AC4 more space. 'Next-gen development on unfinished hardware', eh?

Pretty weird that they move it into the next financial year (starting April 1st). That sounds more some company-money-stock-report-strategy thingy rather than a delay for (only) development reasons.

I guess most of the 2 years dev cycle took place on PC with non-final specs for the next-gen consoles, so now they have to optimize for PS4 and XBone but they didn't have enough time to do it.

Hopefully they learn from the first AC's mistakes and actually have plenty to do in the game. Love the idea of the game but it has to be chock full of cool stuff and side stuff to do.

Also, I want to see that MP mode expanded upon. Sounds great fun.

Most GOTY winners are mechanically braindead, like Journey and The Walking Dead. We're going to have to endure tons of debates about why The Last of Us is the best game of the year, despite being a thoroughly mediocre game in almost every way aside from production values. Tomb Raider bests it in nearly every gameplay-related area.

Meaningful item upgrades, puzzles, better shooting control, very original and fluid cover system, better platforming.

Personally, I think Mario 3D World has a shot at being GOTY, but Tomb Raider was easily one of my favorite games this year.

Sorry, but Tomb Raider is pretty damn mechanically shallow, so I don't agree at all; and I don't even hold TLOU as some bastion of game design either.

Tomb Raider to me is a perfect example of everything wrong with AAA design.

Being replaced with walkie-talkies right now.

Nah, just make an open-world game where I don't have to kill tons of people with tons of guns.

Add to the fact that the setting is supposedly an oppressive police state, yet the main character can just waltz right into a gun store and buy a grenade launcher.

This game hasn't looked so hot to me even since the initial reveal. I don't know how much they could feasibly change in 3 or 4 months but this is probably a good thing.

Hopefully they spend the extra time to remove all of the guns.

I second that. Maybe not all of them, but bring back the main idea of the game - the hacking.
And lose the AC gameplay (enemy areas, towers, assassination, go the the point A and press X to hack, do side quest to access network ...). One can only hope.

It's probably been said but surely GTAV pulling such insane sales they felt it would eat into watch_dogs. For sure financal reasons.

I don't think there's much concern there. GTAV may still be selling very well but it's already sold millions upon millions and the game will be two months old by late November. If Ubi were worried about GTAV's legs it would have delayed Watch Dogs sooner rather than recently reaffirming the November launch, with an image stating "Two months are enough to visit Los Santos", no less.

I am always hoepful when this happens, same with infinite back in the day.

They will ship a better game, mechanicswise or graphicswise, so I dont min waiting.

Plus, I wont be an early adopter for next gen. Buying a PS4 on june next year, so i wont miss much of the MP traffic for this game.

I have to agree with Kev, especially after seeing the window break gif.

Wow this looks terrible. Aside from the smoke and the window not really breaking, the "unlock the car" animation is missing, he basically broke the window for no reason as the door opened just fine (or it's some super high tech car where you unlock it with your elbow)

I am really glad I never caught the hype of this game, especially after the lackluster that is AC3, never trust Ubisoft, their delivery will never reach their ambition.

Yeah, if Watch Dogs was the one game you were excited for at launch, you were probably going to be upset come launch day. This game is clearly not ready for primetime.
Whoa...

I guess they did the right thing.

Good thing for me.

This is one of the games I was most looking forward too and really could not figure out if I should get this on the Xbox One, PS4 or build a PC to play it.

With the delay it allows for some time to pass so any improvements can be made and they can use that extra time working with final console hardware (with the upgraded clock speeds and final drivers).

For me to get a better idea which console if any I will get this on.

I hope this doesn't mean they're gonna use this time to put more filler in the game. I'm expecting some meaningful additions.

You can't have looked too hard at those videos then, because SF is a pretty major departure from the norm for the series.

It looked like more of the same to me. So definitely not something I am interested in,

And now with Watch Dogs being delayed, there just doesn't seem to be a must-have game on either console at launch, to me at least. Granted, I would have gotten the pc version but for those that don't have a gaming pc, this game looked like the best thing available.

A real bummer that it's been delayed.

So my source says the reason is that scores came back from testers and they weren't good. So they're going back to polish the game some more. That's it, not really exciting.

Review copies were sent out? Or these internal playtesting things?

[UPDATE] Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez speaking on an Ubisoft investor call had this to say about the decision to delay Watch Dogs: “In a world of mega-blockbusters we have come to the conclusion that the team needed more time to realise the game’s potential. We consider it to be a long term pillar of our future performance, alongside the likes of Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.”
