I don't like the movie 300, nor do I really like the show Spartacus, So I guess the "jock spartan" tropes aren't really appealing to me.

Soldiers being...fit...is a trope? These guys look like 90s baseball players decked out in plate armor to me. If you think male soldiers from that time period is a trope to be criticized, I don't know that I have much of a response. Where are you getting the "bro" impression from, exactly?

I'm not even complaining about the character models, I pointed them out and you seem to be offended that I think beef cakes en masse in 68 AD is hilarious.

because of all the things to complain about the character models should be the last on the list.

How profitable is crytek? For some reason I've always felt that they would be bought out by Microsoft someday. Is that even a possibility?

Anything is possible, but I think they make a lot of money off of their engines. Under MS they might be limited in graphics development and I imagine that wouldn't make them very happy.

And when a game takes place in a historical setting, beef cakes everywhere moves it up on the funny list. I'm not even complaining, I'm just saying dude.

God damn the Ryse defense force is strong.

You've already shown that you have no interest in the game and stated as such.. yet you're in this thread complaining about character models that appear perfectly fine, and accurate given the setting. I wonder what your true purpose in this thread is exactly?

The character models don't really look like beef cakes. Certainly not NFL physiques. They look like fit soldiers, as we have all the reason to believe the legionnaires were.

I said I have no interest in the story thus far. So you basically want absolutely no discourse from people not interested in the story? What are is your true purpose? Besides not reading my posts or wanting people to not talk about Ryse?

Someone earlier was spot on with the Gears of War comparison. Incredibly thick or wide torsos is what I'm seeing.

Nope, its not possible.

In 13 years they've grown from nothing to about 796 people [9 studios].

You guys are now arguing at each other rather than debating a topic about the game. Can you take it to a pm? Much appreciated. (Directed at procs and morma)

I can't wait to see more of this game. I wasn't impressed at E3, but I love the time period. With this update it's looking much improved, but I still need more combat footage. I'm getting good vibes from it though!

Oh talking about Ryse is fine, when there is some sense of logic.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Please send me pics of beef cakes or alleged slim cakes, I may or may not reply to these cake allegations.

What do you see in those three seconds? I see en masse thickness.

This arguments has dragged on far too long. Agree to disagree on the thickness.

I think it's safe to say that he is running a wrong resolution on his monitor and the image is getting streched. There is no other explanation, because wow.

Someone took my one post and decided to debate on it. You decided to jump in at the end and call me a troll.

Argument is done, I'm not fighting in this ring no more.

One more point, yes compared to Gears of War, the roid game of the century, the models don't look big. Compared to what people would look like in history, they are much thicker than they should be.

Nah man more like +- 21kg so about 45 pounds. That is body armor +- 10kg a shield +-10kg and a roman sword +-1kg.

My god that would be very very hard work, next time you go shopping try carrying 4 heavy bags of groceries in each arm i bet you would be knackered after 200metres.

and lol @ the ppl saying the characters are buff,

if Marius is 5'10-5'11 he looks no more then 190lbs, not buff at all.

gears of wars characters looked like 280lb pro bodybuilders (the guy in my avatar is about 260lb there)

Marius's physique could be achieved with a high calorie diet and the extensive physical activity they did.

I have no idea where you are getting this from, just look at the guys above who were just posted, they don't look overly huge, they just look like soldiers, they carry heavy armour and weapons all day, so of course they'll be muscular, but they huge look roided out.

Er what? I thought you were basing your cynicism on actual historical knowledge but you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Find me info where someone being 5'11 and 190 pounds around the time of Jesus' death/birth isn't considered big or abnormal.

EDIT: Fuck, what am I doing here? I'm out.

I think he's right there. In ~1700AD, 5"5 - 5"6 was considered tall, I think it's safe to assume 5" 10 would have been rather tall back in the early AD.

Or maybe there is no defence force and they think you are posting shit?

I made the Gears comment and I stand by it. In the E3 gameplay I thought "Gears of Rome" and I was happy about this. It's more than just the size of the characters being a bit pronounced, but also the FoV and running animations (or at least what I imagined it to be in mind). Of course the Gears guys are bigger, but I think the comparison is valid.

Wow. I cancelled my PS4 order over a month ago and have been debating whether to keep my X1 order. I know I'll enjoy Forza/CD/DR3/KI, but in all honesty, they could wait. This trailer has sparked what has been missing for me, same feeling I got when Gears showed up. Definitely getting day one.

Cutscenes look utterly fantastic. Gameplay still looks the same which is sad. If this is a baseline visually for what can be done, this gen will be promising. Does anyone else get heavenly sword vibes from this game?

Discussing this with our history professors it sounds like that is probably mostly right with many weeks of 100 pounds and then some weeks with less depending on travel time. Also looking at historic breastplate sizes and other armor fits it looks like Ryse is very close for body size. Makes sense.

Wait how do we know how tall they are in the game...? If they are all shorter wouldn't...we not know?
But regardless I didn't know the conversation had turned bad I thought it was just a normal discussion about the look of the game. And to be honest I love historical discussions like that.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

Going by Crysis 3 (which I didn't like at all) this does remind of Heavenly Sword and The Bouncer :/

Maybe Crytek will redeem themselves? Let's wait and find out

They aren't cut-scenes apparently.

EDIT: Rather, they use the same assets in-game as they do in the cut scenes. Or something like that.

In 68 AD that would be a pretty big dude.

Not for his height, i have tried googleing the weight of an average roman soldier and cant find anything, i found the height which is a minimum of 5'6.

Anyway my point was that ryse's soldiers are not buff and are well within the realm of reality

they dont even look as big as Russell crow was in gladiator, and the majority modern society dont consider him a buff juicer or even that big.

It's the armor that gives the bulky Gears vibes I think.

Roman soldiers were built like freaking tanks. They took on work loads and marching that was most likely much worse than anything Marines do today.

Most of the scenes in this trailer are realtime cutscenes. Gameplay shares the same rigs/character models as cutscenes (ie same quality assets).
