Games UK: PS3 digital content to carry over to PS4 [Sony: Nope]

So obviously a lot of people think this applies to digital PS3 games they've downloaded.

My concern is whether Tomb Raider 2, Tomb Raider 3 and Crash Team Racing will be playable on my PS4.

Yay or Nay?

They should via Gaikai. We don't know exactly when (somewhere in 2014?) and at what price (additional fees or maybe not if you have already purchased them).

So I'm assuming this means cross buy for games bought on psn? Hmm. I can't say I was expecting that, if it is indeed true.

Well cross-buy is at least partially happening whether or not this does, since at least some PS3/Vita games that are now getting PS4 versions like Flower and Escape Plan, according to that other thread, if you already own them through PSN you get the PS4 version for free via crossbuy.

So if its Gaikai related, I wont have to buy my digital games again or get a sub to play them on PS4? Nice.
Therein lies my question as well. I saw some posts with people saying it's going to be like Netflix or Hulu but then that means you're paying a separate monthly fee for access to a large amount of games.
What if you just want to stream the games you already bought digitally?

Where have you seeing that? I really want to know where it has been said. It could be via PS+ only.

It's possible that it might be on top of PS+. Again, this is going by what I heard at the store earlier (who hadn't heard anything like what Basildon were tweeting about).

Yoshida's said on twitter that PS1/PS2 Classics from PSN won't work on PS4. Which sucks since those are obviously able to be emulated, Yoshida even admitted that in an early interview. Sounds like it'll be Gaikai or nothing for those games too.

I'm really tempted to make a semi-automated emulator setup/frontend for SteamOS at this rate.

This is what I'm going to be curious about when Gaikai launches. It would be interesting if they enable both options.

So you are saying you go on PS4's store, you buy a PSone (for example) and then to play it you have to subscribe to PS+ and then to Gaikai? I think it will be one or the other.

shucks :(

this sounds like something I should know but is Gaikai included in PS+ as a service or is something you'd subscribe to seperately.

Because TBH, I'm not going to pay extra to stream games I could play if I plugged my PS3 in

You haven't missed it. They haven't detailed this about Gaikai yet.

Your purchases will "carry over", but you won't actually be able to play them, right (haven't read the whole thread)? There's no BC, after all. I guess this could become relevant once Gaikai is up and running, would be great if you didn't have to rebuy PS3 games you already own.

Only thing I can imagine this is saying is that Gaikai will recognize your digital library and let you play them free of charge.

Maybe it simply means what it says, ALL digital content is transferred/registered to your account, if it is playable on PS4 it will be, if not it wont... its license transfers likely. So future compatibility with YOUR digital licenses will enable them to be used.

Tales from a specific Game shop's metaphorical arse. There's no way EA or Rockstar wouldn't take the opportunity to extract another £10 out of gamers wallets (and most likely they'll be asking for a full £50).

people are insane to think that games designed for ps3 will all of a sudden work for ps4 if they can't emulate retail games. psn games and retail games are both designed for ps3.

the games will be viewable in your download list on your ps4, but they won't be downloadable/playable. it will just be like how it is now with vita/psp/ps3 when your system doesn't support the content. don't get your hopes up! it'd be nice for it all to work, but it would make gaikai ps3 BC pointless, and they've been touting that for a while.

This is obviously not including games but if it were can you imagine the flood of Playstation 3s being sold? Gamestop would explode.

This is just ridiculous, heh. You really think Sony would've kept quiet about it this long if this were the case?

They obviously got their wires crossed and are talking about Gaikai or something

In my own personal experience GAME employees aren't the sharpest knives in the draw so I'd take this with truckloads of Sodium Chloride tbh.

I'm thinking this means your history and cross-buy options, not "here's BC!".

Yosp has already said the US is the "beta" for Gaikai next year so let's be rational here.

PS4 isn't going to be able to play PS3 games in any way except for ports and through Gaikai and to suggest otherwise is LOL worthy.

Guessing it is Gaikai related... but only for digital content bought from the PS Store. Not too unbelievable that they would transfer your digital license from PS3 version only to PS3 version and Gaikai streaming. Sounds good if it holds up. I remember wondering this when they announced Gaikai in the first place. Physical purchases would not work however as they no longer know if you have the discs..... unless they did something along the line of the "$10 upgrade" and require the PS3 disc to be in the PS4's disc drive. Even though the PS4 can't play the game, it can still use it for authorization.

This is what I assumed the statement meant. If I bought a PS3 game through PSN, it would be available on the streaming service once it launches. If that's true, then it's still a huge deal. Since Gaikai will likely be available on Vita, Vita TV, PS3 and even potentially built into TV/other boxes, you'll still have access to a ton of games no matter where you are. I'd love it if this is true.

I don't care as much about the physical discs, although it would be nice to be able to pay $10 and get the digital versions. I don't see that as very realistic for the near term though.
