What, where are those rumours from? I thought part of the entire Xbox One design philosophy was to avoid exactly that problem.

I wouldn't worry about an overheating issue at all.
I thought one of the things CBOAT kept saying was that the Xbone had heating issues, either from ESRAM or the overclocking.

New Theory:

Everyone is assuming that the 720p/1080p is what Famousmortimer was talking about, basically by process of elimination of the other bad news. However, all the videos that IGN are shooting/shot for this week are based on the Squads multiplayer mode. Is it simply possible that matchmaking, which we know is a separate app that runs on Xbox One, is still being ironed out/fixed? Even local matchmaking would need to be done through the app since it is essentially part of the OS and not the game. Therefore it would be easier and run better on PS4 because the multiplayer architecture on PS4 is the same as it has always been.

I've come up with this theory from this conversation, which was linked in the OP.

Why must it be the 720p thing and not because of matchmaking?

Not a bad theory. Scary but not bad. I'd actually be more willing to believe that then this game running at 720

There are rumors that "risky" overclocking may be on the table. I think CBOAT originated.

(but I think the risk = system instability, not thermal output. But who knows)

Just got a look at the IGN footage, man it will be disastrous if XBone can't run THAT at 1080p, that looked like 360 game. I don't have a trained eye but that didn't even look like Halo 4 quality, though I suppose a lot of it could be the media player. Didn't we already see XB1 footage at Gamescom or was that running on PC's?

Not to be a conspiracy theorist or anything, but it does seem somewhat...coincidental...that this rumor/news hits on the same day that Titanfall got a release date.

Seriously though, has there ever been as bad a product launch in the history of electronics? All we need now is the already-rumoured hardware overheating issues and we could be staring down the barrel of Redmond's latest and greatest flop. 2014 is going to be interesting to watch.

Wait where did this rumor come from?

You realise how little this stuff registers with casual gamers right?

It's so bizarre. I'm not getting either console (and never plan to) yet I feel the need to defend Xbone simply for how out of proportion and one sided the reactions in this thread are. You'd think Sony had already won next gen.

Regardless of how shitty it looks, based on the minimum PC specs, this game must be demanding. It wouldn't surprise me if the PS4's extra GPU makes a significant difference.

Hmm...plausible.

oh crap if this is true ...
Eventhough more worrisome is the part of the OS crashing, seriously? it isn't as simple as patching it.

I understand some people really into the resolution, for others like me there won't be much difference but this is going to be flamebait among kids (just like the bit wars) and those are the CoD crowd.

What the hell? New day, new drama?!!

My thoughts: if COD (of all games) shows this kind of difference at launch, everyone can rest assured that nobody is gimping their games on the PS4.

I'd be in the dick
If this is true it confirms what I've thought for a while. It's not just the power differences that will make there be major differences between the platforms but also the fact that the PS4 is so easy to develop for, more efficient, and the tools are more mature. All four of those combined makes for a massive advantage, the likes of which we have rarely seen between competing consoles.

Not interested at all in CoD, but if this is an indication of way worse ports on Xbone, that sucks. I wanted to go Wii U/Xbone.

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
How in THE HELL is Ryse pushing 900p with those goddamn visuals then?

Seems to me like we should wait for a full picture.

If true then...idk what to think. It has to be an Activision issue. Forza is 1080p and GHOST doesn't look anywhere as good.

Jesus MS
One has been able to focus 100% on the Xbox One console for most of its development.

Another has five different platforms to dev for in a smaller timeframe, with two being moving targets up till a few months ago.

Both are not 1080p on XB1.

Too late. People are already going crazy lol.

Would be huge if true -- especially since COD is tied to the Xbox brand more obviously.

If it's true then I guess they ran into something since June -- was stated back then that both the PS4 and Xbox One versions were 1080p in 60 FPS.

That article is being thrown around too much. I don't see a 1080p quote from the dev, plus it'd be easy to fake it, by just making an empty room. Hell, the game is 5 months from shipping at that point. Maybe it felt feasible at that point in time.

Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Call of Duty culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in BF4 where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Call of Duty, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the COD public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Ghosts for the xbone, nor will they purchase any of Microsoft's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Microsoft has alienated an entire market with this move.

MS, publicly apologize and cancel 720p Ghosts for xbone or you can kiss your business goodbye.

And now I'm remembering things like the coyness of BF4's resolution disputes on next gen platforms.

And the recent fact that the XB1 version of NFS Rivals wasn't shown off whilst PC/PS4 were .__.

People want to measure the power of Xbox One based on Call of Duty?.

No it'd be like if Pong ran at 1080p on PS4 but 720p on the Xbox One, you sure as hell would wonder what the flying fuck is up with that.

COD Ghost was a lock for 1080p on both console's in my eyes

Man, why couldn't MS make 1080p a viable proposition for the Xbone SOC :/

Good thing I won't buy it for anything but Halo and its awesome media stuff, hilariously I will be getting it at some point for its TV functions and Kinect, not primarily for gaming, sticking to PC for that.

Needs more attention in my opinion (this is Forbes in June)

In talking to a developer who wished to remain anonymous, gamers will see a difference on Day One when they compare third party PS4 games to Xbox One head-to-head. The developer told me the PS4 is 40 percent more powerful than Xbox One and games like Call of Duty Ghosts will be noticeably different out of the gate.

I agree; especially since this massive rumor just came out.

The other topic is getting swamped and since this seems to be pretty major news if it turns out to be true

Well if you give a major shit about resolution and want to fuss over stuff, definitely pretty major news,....... it's news, it's mildly significant too and indicative of the power difference in the consoles - but "pretty major" - only to a very small, very very VERY vocal minority.

Today's Titanfall announcements are the only things giving me hope that the X1 won't be a complete fuck up that Don left behind on his way to a meeting with his banker.

I'm an equal opportunity forumer.

I'm only seeing this kind of excitement over this news here.

Maybe I should expand.

Its all good, I wouldn't be surprised if 3 quarters of Gaf are on Reddit as well, its still strange to me that there's this weird beef between the two.
