Ok.

Well, fuck being coy, obviously this is the rumor I heard. It's really thin, guys. Really thin. I want two sources on anything I post here or talk about on my podcast but this I really, really wanted two sources on. And there's a few wrinkles to it as well which are interesting (if they are true). I just cannot say whether it's true or not and this is obviously a huge fucking deal. Sales are at stake. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if MS put a goddamn hit out on me.

Anyway, this is the rumor. And it's thin. It's fucking thin. To be completely honest I don't believe it. I mean... it's just weird. Anyway - supposedly Activision is doing a controlled environment review process that only huge ass games can get away with. What I heard was you got to chose a version.... either xbox one or PS4 and you didn't get to see the other one. You then go in and play it at their setup for a certain number of hours and that's it. Someone who saw the Xbox one version claims it's 720p.

Did this person count pixels? Is this known info they are telling people? Is it upscaled? I don't know the answers to any of these questions. It doesn't even make sense to me... CoD is a pretty shitty looking game, why in the hell could it not run at 1080p? I feel like if they took the time they could get the 360 version at 1080p if they wanted to... the engine is older than me. But, that's what was said.

It's impossible to get a second source because everyone is, obviously, under NDA. No one wants to get blacklisted by Activision.

And now for my opinion....

Driveclub being delayed I was pretty damn certain on. It wasn't a flimsy rumor like this. But the one thing that I'm noticing here is that the non-responses are the same. I was nervous about the driveclub thing because I was out here by myself with some random ass site I never heard of (kudos to them for being right though) and if the info ended up being wrong I was going to look like a huge asshole. Each non-answer given made me feel better about being right.

If the game is running at 1080p there's no reason to give non-answers. That's not info you want to hide. So looking at it from this angle - the rumor exists and non answers are given - I feel like that gives credence to the rumor.

But... but... but...! I've been right about a lot of shit. I should have never teased this because this rumor is fucking flimsy. More flimsy than PS4 in October which the entire internet believed. I'm not saying it's true. I expect 900p to be honest. That's a guess. I don't know. I do know there is a lot of chatter about the xbox struggling to hit 1080p.

Also, why the fuck not, Titanfall has been rumored to be targeting 720p on the xbox one as well. I'm sure that probably came up in this thread already by someone... but, yeah, that rumor seems more solid than this CoD one.

Pretty damn sad that the XB1 can't hit 1080p with Titanfall. And there's no launch time rush job excuse for this either.

Man what a night.

My only question, lots of people have seen Titanfall (lol) in person. No one could tell it was 720p at events?

This is GLORIOUS fodder for the "console war", but honestly, it just kind of stinks that we're getting all of these 720p games in NEXT GEN. May be [much] moreso on XB1, but man, we should be past this!

This is pretty much a fact that has been before CBOAT said it. Respawn already hinted at it when they said they're targeting 60 frames a second over all. They said Performance > Visuals, when asked what resolution TitanFall Was running at.

EDIT: Looking at the first page... are most of us seriously just hearing this for the first time? The article is really old, we've basically know it was 720p for the longest time :p

Digital Foundry: 1080p60 on Xbox One?

Drew McCoy: We'll see how performance goes. Frame-rate is king.
~ EuroGamer interview with Respawn.

They basically said no, this was published over a month ago. Doesn't take an insider to see Titan Fall isn't 1080p :p

Titanfall was always going to be 720p -- "Framerate is king". No doubt about it that it will be 720p. The knife in the side will be if it's 1080p when it comes to PS4.

The question is...does it really matter? As long as the game looks decent enough, which is a point to where I think we have gotten, does 720p make that much of a difference? As long as the game looks good enough, and makes great games, why not? The hardware, is going to still be able to create advanced new games with them and graphics are not everything.

That didn't take long.

I agree. I think both are disappointing, just the One more so. We shouldn't be stuck on 720p after all this time.

I'm curious if the next-gen difference actually ends up being resolution. Like outside of first party the ports maintain effects parity but xbone runs them at 720. Average Joe wouldnt even be able to tell the difference.

this is just insane.

I mean, I guess they are relying on the upscaling of everything, but just....damn man.

Word of mouth isn't gonna be good for the Xbox One. Too late to push the release back and redesign too.

I see a new Xbox in 4 years tops after the Xbox one drops.

Source engine should run at 180fps on low end hardware...

This will be immensely disappointing if it turns out to be true. I'll undoubtedly be able to run it on my PC but what good are new consoles if they're not outdoing the current gen systems by a wide margin?

I don't think it's such a big deal for Titanfall. I'm sure plenty of games will run at 720p this gen, and if that's what the dev's choose to target it's their choice.

Could have been 900p. That's what I was expecting when they said "framerate is king". It just does not seem like a game that would need to be 720p in next-gen.

But here we are.

It's like having 480p ps360 games.

Exactly! And that NEVER happened. Even at launch. So it's just a little shocking seeing so many 720p games.

If the frame rate is locked at 60, I am a lot more forgiving of the resolution when it's on my TV.

Sure as hell isn't when it's on my PC and locked at 30. Dark Souls PC taught me that! May the Sun bless Durante from here to eternity.
