Such good bundles, still only 40k sales.

Wonderbomba 101 is a nuclear bomb and Wii Party sells well, I fear what conclusions Nintendo will draw from this...

I am sad Panda.

Well what did Nintendo draw from Sin & Punishment 2 being a nuclear bomb and Wii Party selling well? We're still getting niche destined-to-be-hardcore bombs and we're still getting accessible mainstream multiplayer games.

I assume they will be glad they have their evergreen titles finally released. I think Iwata promised more fan favorite titles for next year, so I hope he at least had Wave Race/1080/Excite Truck in mind...

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
They are?

Comget pre-orders chart:

268pt - Puzzle & Dragon (37 days from launch)
219pt - Lightning Returns (16 days from launch)
343 - God Eater 2 PSV (9 days from launch)

Very good numbers, increasing daily, yet over a month from launch - good sign.

It's autosuggestion. If the CEO isn't bullish on its product sales potential, no one else will be. Having this projection, partners may consider half of it as a realistic perspective. If Iwata projected half as much, partners might still apply a half cut on it, and it would look bad. As it stands it looks good, gives confidence and that's what Iwata tries to get. If he's wrong, he will still have Mario Kart 8 and whatever other system seller they will announce for next year to keep the confidence in Wii U's potential alive.
It doesn't look "good," it looks out of touch with reality.

It's a silly forecast that no one in their right mind believed plausible. It was a silly forecast when they first made it in April. It was a silly forecast in July when they reaffirmed it. It's a silly forecast now as they refuse to move on it.

Nonsense projections don't instil confidence.

Do you honestly think the Wii audience is going to come back on the WiiU.

Why do we have to keep recycling people ?
After six years you would think there would be enough new consumers who never bought the Wii would for the first time get the WiiU.

Yep and when they have to cut it severely and still miss it he looks like a fool.

Well, I hope they keep producing those bombs. Sin and Punishment was likely a much cheaper game to make than W101, X or Bayonetta.

If we're not even getting Star Fox or Metroid, dead franchises like Wave Race and 1080 are a little unlikely IMO...

Wow never saw that before.

God Eater 2 PSV is 343pt as well. Thats quite a jump from last time.

It's definitely bullish, but then it also opens questions. Does that mean Iwata plan to release Mario Kart before the end of the fiscal year? Another system seller that has yet to be announced? A new balance board kind of peripheral/surprise hit? Iwata obviously know things we don't, and he tries to bank on it, bluff or not. I wouldn't totally rule out Nintendo being able to achieve half of their target, with a cautious question mark on anything above it. Still better to have that question mark, as far as investments on this platform are concerned. If it can help greenlight a handful of 3rd party projects on the platform, Iwata made a good call.

It's quite confusing actually. I thought that the general consensus was that the Wii U was primarly selling to the hardcore Nintendo fans, but with Wii Party U outperforming WWHD (and W101, but yeah), I'm not sure which demographic is actually buying the console at this point.

Probably a little from column A, a little from column B. Don't see why it would be restricted to one or the other.

Yep, it looks like the handhelds are going to kill it this holiday. It's good to see more platforms do better. I would like Wii U to at least manage to stay above 20k until January, but I suspect it will drop to around 15k next week.

This makes no sense. All analysts are saying Nintendo is crazy and you can bet 3rd parties think the same thing. Nintendo could say they are going to make apple like profits and doesn't mean anyone will believe them.

It's not bullish. It's bullshit. You spelt it wrong and forgot the 't'. And no third party production manager is stupid enough to greenlight projects based on his cray cray forecast. They can smell it, just as much as anybody else.

PazuDora > LR.

Lightning Returns is going to bomb. And take single player Square Enix with her.

At this point I dread to see what DQ11 has become. It will probably remove everything I actually adore about that series. But still I think FF15 and KH3 are still high production.

With no next-gen consoles and Mario 3D World, it's pretty clear the Wii U will be the dominant console this holiday in Japan.

And it should do better in the US.

I'm mostly worried about the first couple of months next year.

I swear there was a thread which had the same title before the Wii-U released.

In a recent interview with Activision’s UK managing director Roy Stackhouse, which we’ll publish a video of later today, we asked their reasons for supporting what some would consider an unworthy venture, and if they’d be evaluating their stance in the future.

His reply was full of confidence that Nintendo could and would find their feet: ”Nintendo have a great track record of bringing great consoles to the market place, and I think it’s a bit too early to be writing any console off at the moment, let alone the Wii U.

“I mean, there’s a big stable in the Nintendo market with family, that hasn’t come to the Wii U yet, and we’re sure that Nintendo will make the Wii U a success.” he continued, pointing out something that Nintendo appear to be looking to change with upcoming titles.

“That’s part of why you’ll be able to buy Call of Duty on the Wii U.” Stackhouse concluded. So, it appears their support won’t dwindle any time soon, and that will only serve to help Nintendo in creating a successful home console.
Either some are more stupid than you think, or they have a business interest in believing in Iwata, more than in your bullshit/no bullish view.

After six years you would think there would be enough new consumers who never bought the Wii would for the first time get the WiiU.

If anything, that makes it worse, and is likely a key factor in the WiiU's problems.

People heavy into gaming have little reason to buy a WiiU if they aren't big fans of Nintendo. Current gen consoles have huge libraries and are cheaper, while next-gen consoles are more powerful and will have solid third-party support. People who aren't big gamers, meanwhile, have less incentive to buy a dedicated gaming machine than they did in '06.

Nor is Nintendo itself doing much to leverage the Gamepad as a solid differentiator. I've yet to see or hear anything about what it adds to their biggest upcoming titles, like Smash, 3D World, or MK8. It'll be difficult to make the value argument as long as that's the case, to put it mildly.

... bullish? He's in totally batshit insane territory with his insistance on the 9M figure.
I mean unless they're planning to try and do the biggest channel stuffing in the history of consumer electronics products. I doubt retailers will play along though.

But when March comes around and WiiU has done less then half the forecast. Won't the investors start asking for heads to roll?

My assumption is that he's going to wait and see what happens over the holidays, and will revise it afterwards based on what happens then. He doesn't want to spread downgrade pessimism to people who count (ie., investors and retailer purchasing depts.) before he knows just how much to dole out.

Yes, clearly PR niceties as they try to sell COD on the Wii U show Activision is greenlighting Destiny for the platform as we speak based on lunatic projections of selling 8.54M consoles in the next 6 months.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I swear there was a thread which had the same title before the Wii-U released.

DragonSworne kept saying it in these here threads, went mad when reality hit, and returned a bitter twisted version of himself, forever to haunt Nintendo's future prospects with vengeful passion.

You know, standard NeoGAF fare. I often wonder if marc^o^ will have a character arc or if its just reruns scheduled.

I noticed that lol. I think Anthony did the same but a less dramatic version.

Let's be clear, it would take a miracle for Wii U to sell as much as Iwata is projecting. What I'm saying is that I understand why he does that, to create a positive perspective/spiral on Wii U in tough times. It can only help the console. If it deceives investors, so be it. It seems Iwata puts the console positive spiral above it, and i think he's right doing it.

That Vita hold... tears to my eyes. That is so exciting!

Nice to see the Wii U emerge from the bowels of the sales charts, too.

Nice numbers for Vita and the WiiU. Glad to see both of them strive back to be.... little more noticeable.

Hope they both stay around that area, but I am afraid :(

If you yourself realise that it's a completely implausible, or rather essentially impossible projection, then why exactly do you think anyone, be it a third party executive or an [attentive] investor is fooled by it.

No, seriously. Don't.
