Destructoid "Call of Duty Ghosts performs smoothly on Xbox One"

Despite the less-than-stellar reception it's received in the press, Call of Duty: Ghosts remains one of the most anticipated launch titles in the Xbox One line-up. Not because the game itself, so much as the power of its brand.

During my time with the title, I wasn't able to experience a single-player campaign. Instead, we were given the opportunity to experience a fully-unlocked multiplayer mode. Having played a fair amount of Call of Duty throughout the years, I felt that I'd have a pretty good handle on things, but I honestly wasn't prepared for the level of customization I encountered.

So being that the game was running on Xbox One hardware, the first thing I'm sure the first thing that might spring to mind is the game's native 720p resolution. To be honest, I had known about the resolution going in, but it barely occurred to me while playing. If I hadn't known, I honestly would have never guessed. Instead, I was far more impressed with the game's smooth performance, owed in large part to its solid 60 frames-per-second.

Are the Sony reports limited to Single Player campaign only so far? Because if not, maybe Sony should have had an engineer on hand at IW during development like Microsoft did.

Weren't the framerate complaints being directed mainly at the campaign, which the Destructoid editor pointedly mentioned as not being playable at the event?

Should be mentioned that most of the frame rate complaints for the PS4 version were SP related, and evidently could be related to a checkpoint/saving bug. Should also be mentioned that we have a video of the Xbox One version's mutiplayer, and there are some heavy frame rate drops in it...

But yea, I guess that DF comparison can't come soon enough!

EDIT: The vid in question.

"720p is still a pretty big number" ~Battle of the bands

man both the PC and PS4 version got the short stick in fps if true

Both had drops reported with the PS4 reviewers.

Either way, the game sounds like an unoptimized mess so even if the xb1 version ends up being solid framerate wise...it should not be 720p. And 1080p shouldn't be dropping with what it looks like. And the pc version shouldn't have multiple gigs of ram taken up by nothing asdkjasdlaslfjasf god dammit IW.

Right after Sterling left. Interesting...

Sterling fired for refusing to admit that Ghosts runs well on the Xbox One confirmed!

And the performance complaints for the PS4 version have been for both multi and single player from what I've read.

Does the person in that video ever mention the stuttering? Could be a poor upload.

Hopefully this is the case. The framerate drops in the video posted in this thread worried me when I saw it yesterday. Need more impressions.

I guess we can only take his word right now. But there is going to be a shitstorm if it's later proven that it's not a solid 60 fps on the Xbox One as the author claims.

Better performance on CoD? 720p seems to be a great trade off then.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
The game has issues even running on PC with Titan, and they want us to believe it runs smooth on X1? Yeah ok game journalists.

The person quoted in the OP sounds like they've never played video games before and are just shooting off buzzwords to gain attention.

The video in this thread says that no, it doesn't run smooth either.

If it actually does, then I think the only thing it says is that Microsoft gave IW some more help than Sony. I mean, aiming your gun in this piece of shit causes a Titan to crumble into the 30-40 FPS region. This game is...not technically good.

Didn't one Journo on Twitter already claim the Xbox One version ran worse than the PS4 version? Indirectly of course.

So apparently Raven Software did a lot of the work on the multiplayer while IW did the work on the campaign and Neversoft did the work on the extinction mode.

What a Frankenstein mess of a game.

destructoid says this? hmm they need to define "smooth".

They define smooth as

That video is obviously noticeably stuttery and seems like something on youtube's end as the person talking didn't seem to mention it from the bit I listened to.

I think when people say that most people can't tell the difference when it comes to resolution, they mean when it's not side by side. Like if you showed me a game that was running in 1080p or 720p and told me to tell you what the game was running in, I don't think I could do it. Now when you put them side by side, it's obvious, but I agree with Destructoid here. It's not as big of a deal as some are making it out to be when it comes to which console will come out on top this gen.
