So Target shipped someone an Xbox One already? [Update: console-banned until launch]

xboners sure are mad that sony is doing it the right way.

good stuff.

Tell me... How did you come to the conclusion that I am an Xboner? I'm curious. You're completely off base, but I still want to know.

I am getting one, but I'm also getting a PS4 next year, and I have a Wii U, PC, 3DS. What are the derogatory terms for those respective systems? Put me under those lists as well.

I hope Mark Cerny sucks this dudes dick and swallows his cum load. Even better feel good story.
Then after, Cerny gets up, Yoshida comes out of nowhere and tags himself in. He tells the dude to prepare for his dualshock 4. Proceeds to ram the dude's ass while reading the PS4 FAQ. Cerny comes back fully naked, says "Get ready for some of my 8GB GDDR5", and starts to work the front. 1080p sex at 60 ballsack slaps per second ensues for hours. Cerny and Yoshida are just about to burst all over the guy's face when Kaz comes out nowhere yelling "$399! $399! $399! $399! $399!". All three proceed to bust ALL KINDS of nuts over the guy's face. Scene fads out...Playstation 4 logo appears.

Hopefully the dood gets unbanned in time for launch. I think anyone with a early PS4 will be ok since PSN is not up yet right?

I'm glad I revisited this thread just to see these posts. lols

I'm not mad either it's interesting to see this get blown up when the actual guy is probably not even this mad, lol.

So at launch the bans will be lifted?

Update 3: A Microsoft spokesperson tells Engadget that the Xbox One consoles some consumers received by accident well ahead of launch on November 22nd cannot access Xbox Live until closer to launch. The statement says: "Due to a retail partner's system issue, a very small number of Xbox One consoles were shipped to consumers before the November 22 street date. We're pleased to see the initial response to Xbox One has been so positive, but given we are still putting the finishing touches on our games, UI and online services, as well as confidential partner and media agreements, these consoles units will be restricted from connecting to Xbox Live until closer to our launch date."

We're talking about retail consoles, I'm almost sure that they are connecting to production endpoints on the Xbox network. Otherwise, they would need to have a software rule in the consoles that makes them connect to a dev network if it isn't Nov 22 yet.

From what you're saying we can suppose that the production endpoint is connecting to a dev/test/pre-production network internally, which is absolutely possible and understandable. If that's so, they really fucked up the messaging telling people they got banned.

I'm glad that it was just a message problem.

The endpoints are probably general live servers, but they redirect into the X1 environment which is flagged only for dev kits and demos. They just don't want people on it until launch. The story could have been more damaging if a week before the launch, and people who have access early started posting how Live was down for a weekend and nothing was working. They are being proactive because they know people are hungry for bad Xbox One news.

Thanks for this. Good to see that Major Nelson replied at least. I doubt it's going to help though.

Sure it'll help. Major already said that his console won't be permanently banned. So it's looks like this is going to be resolved very quickly. Worst case scenario the guy can't access LIVE until the 22nd.

xboners sure are mad that sony is doing it the right way.

good stuff.

I think he's just pointing out that ridiculousness of it all. If you go to that thread and read some of the replies it does get a bit over the top.

Sony and their figureheads have earned a lot of the love that they get but I can definitely see how some people think it goes a little above and beyond what's truly necessary.

Wow, this guy was singlehandedly creating a lot of hype for the Xbox One (since my 360 ban got overturned, I was even considering buying one after seeing how slick the UI looked and how much he praised it). Now he's banned, and even though he's still talking about how great the Xbox One is, my urge to buy it has completely faded...just awful that his console got banned because Target shipped it early.

Just reinforces my choice to switch from being an Xbox gamer to being a PS gamer next gen... sad considering my gamerscore is close to 40k, I consider myself a pretty diehard 360 fan overall. :(

Talking about an NDA is irrelevant. When he signs in to the console, he accepts the EULA that goes with it. If the EULA does not allow you to sign in before the release date, that's all that is needed to prevent him for doing just that.

Except the EULA means absolute jack shit everywhere in the world apart from the USA.

If I, as a UK citizen, went online with the xbone before launch I too would be banned even though EULAs are not legally binding here.

Pretty much. A lot of willful ignorance in this thread.

Cool story, but this isn't about you. This about this dude, in america, who signd an EULA and went online. So...

Seems fair enough to me, providing bans are lifted on the 22nd.

That's irrelevant. Microsoft will ban anyone regardless of where they are, and that's absolutely out of fucking order.

I don't know, it makes sense and seems reasonable to me.

  1. Guy gets an Xbox One Friday evening, because Target fucked up
  2. Posts a bunch of details with highly positive reaction
  3. Couple folks on Twitter advise him not post any gameplay, he agrees to wait
  4. More folks on Twitter start tweeting that he has the console and is answering questions
  5. Couple media outlets pick up that he's spewing details
  6. He posts an unboxing video to YouTube
  7. Microsoft takes unboxing video down with a copyright strike, asking for proof of purhcase
  8. He responds to said email with proof of purchase
  9. People start tweeting to him how his was wronged
  10. Talks about suing MS
  11. Hours of people upset over unboxing video taken down
  12. Dude emails MS to see when/if the unboxing video can go back up
  13. More bitching from people about video being taken down
  14. Dude jokes he "might sue them lol"
  15. Around midnight his console gets banned from XBL, but not his account
  16. Dude contacts @Microsoft to explain, tweets @Microsoft several times with no response
  17. People get in an uproar over how he was wronged, they suggest to sue
  18. Dude stays calm, says he will go straight to MS
  19. People go back to being raged about the unboxing video being taken down
  20. Dude goes to sleep
  21. Major Nelson joins the GAF thread and says he's going to try to resolve it
  22. GAF still kind of in uproar
Thanks for the summary. Banning him was very wrong. He did nothing wrong, just got lucky and got the console early. It sounds like it might get sorted out in the end though if Major/Larry said so, he is actually a surprisingly good guy if you don't treat him like shit. I'm a nobody, in tiny Sweden, and recently had a problem with a lost password and password recovery solution didn't work, 7 years of 360 purchases was locked inside the console. I got zero help from the support and finally contacted Larry but never thought he would reply, but he did, and he offered to help me out and also came back to me later on when it finally worked just to see if everything was okay now. So yeah keep calm and just don't treat people like shit and it might end up okay in the end.

Agreed, looks like a fair compromise as long as the people getting it early is not permabanned. If the initial message just stated that he was "locked out" of xboxlive and not console banned, I doubt there would have been any uproar

Good update.

If MS had the remote foresight and manners to post this or something similar to the guys console, there would have been very little scope to bitch.

They REALLY could do with some PR and customer service humbleness. Hell forget about this 'conversation' bs, they could have had their DRM roadmap plan on track if they'd had the carrot over the stick approach.

People who don't feed into all this crap aren't "Xboners". I've never even bought an Xbox console before. Can everyone stop it with this fanboyism?

I'd say a bigger deal than the banning alone is using Youtube's copyright claiming system to claim that an unboxing video was infringing on their copyrights. That's a fraudulent claim. Microsoft committed literal copyright fraud, and yet they still expect everyone to respect their copyrights?

This really is the bigger issue here. Reprehensible behavior.

Let's be honest for a moment - if this had not blown up, it would not have been resolved. Doing the right thing when the eyes of the world are on you is not the same as doing the right thing when no one is watching. So, anyone saying that it's ridiculous this exploded into a PR event is missing the point that the public rage is what pushed it towards a solution.

Exactly. We've gone from Piracy, Copyright Infringement to 'just shit MS or large organisations don't like' in a very short amount of time in regards to YouTube.

I'm confused, if the console is ready and the update is live. What could Microsoft be waiting on/far that would have them launch a week later than Sony. Server-side stuff?

Are you sure about that? Sounds like unbanning the consoles on the 22th was always the plan (which also makes perfectly sense). No need for tin foil hats
