Sony Updates PS4 "Software Usage Terms"

I think that's the same as the last time I had to look over these but I'm not 100% sure of it... either way, lol... if you think you can stop me selling off my discs to whoever I like, whenever I like then come the fuck at me bro(ny)!

You know what I'm afraid of now? Some site seeing this thread and running it as a story and suddenly "YOU CAN'T SELL YOUR PS4 GAMES" becomes a thing that people actually think.

The idea that you don't own the software on a disk but you do own a right to use the software is nothing new so 4.1 sounds ok.

AFAIK 7.1 isn't actually a contradiction to Sony's advertised stance in that they are still allowing used games and game lending HOWEVER they are saying you can't get any money from this unless Sony and/or the publisher of said game agree you can.

And how you break your own terms of service.

Xbox Won :((((

Yup, it's why we consumers should always be vigilante. Any time these companies might decide to screw us, if they so choose.

On PS3 they didn't. On PS4 they won't. But we're watching, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Always watching.

Sometimes you guys are seeing things that aren't there. Watching too hard.

Can we lock this thread before it unnecessarily spirals out of control? This has always been the TOS. You will see it for the old consoles as well. Not to mention other forms of media like movies. Nobody enforces it and Sony has expressly authorized it. Nothing to see here, folks!

Totally agree. This will go viral and the misinformation will spread.

No, don't lock it, I want to see people freak out. We can then parse out who can't think rationally.

Saw this shit posted on 4chan, this TOS has been part of PSN, which includes PS3 and Vita games.

We haven't had an issue so far, have we?

Oh god guys, that's just a standard term.

They have to allow the resale of discs, and they already done so, if you want to know where go to the Playstation Blog and read the FAQ's

do you not understand the difference between sharing and selling?

This is just goofy, but at the same time, I do wonder if had this been something buried in an Xbox One FAQ, how much differently things would be going. People would be on twitter calling for heads. This shit has gotten too crazy. Shows you what perception and PR can do for you. Sony has done a wonderful job of creating a great perception since the Feb reveal that has given them much more leeway with the enthusiast audience....while MS not so much.

It's 00:37 in the UK

By the time I wake tomorrow I expect this to have become a thing, despite the same clause being in the PS3 TOS

PlayStation®3 Game Discs

Game software is licensed for home use only on authorised PlayStation®3 systems in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania only
You may not lease, rent, sublicense, publish, modify, adapt, or translate any portion of the Game Software.
You may not use the Game Software commercially, broadcast it, charge for its use, use it in a public arcade or make other public performance of it without express permission from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the Game Software, or create any derivative works, or otherwise attempt to create Game Software source code from its object code.
You may not use any unauthorised, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software in connection with the Game Software to bypass, disable, or circumvent any encryption, security, or authentication mechanism for the PlayStation®3 system.
You may not resell Game Software unless expressly authorised by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe

So no change at all then.

UK only!

Lol I kid.

It's odd to see it explicitly state disc based software. I don't see them enforcing it though. Probably legal mumbo jumbo but who can definitely say.

PS180!

Totally agree. This will go viral and the misinformation will spread.

Its not misinformation though- the TOS update means what it says. It just won't likely be enforced as it was this past gen.

Not a big deal, but its not FUD- TOS updates have gotten threads here in the past, and they've all similary been "itsfuckingnothing" threads.

Also, isn't this just like having "Not for resale" stickers on pack-ins? If it has the sticker, you're not supposed to sell it. If there isn't one, go ahead and do as you please.

That's basically how most low-quality gaming news sites operate. Then we usually see at least one 'major' site quote them as a source for an equally shit article.

I agree with the other users, this thread should be loked before it spreads misinformation, this is just standard wording used in all consoles.

Exactly. This TOS change does mean what you think it means, but it does seem Sony does not appear to have plans to enforce it.
