Game Informer: PS4's boot time makes us eager for 'suspend & resume'

Eh, something negative about the PS4. I'm sure this'll be buried.

For real, you sound pretty bitter.

Also... I thought there was a low power state, just not game suspend/resume. Is that wrong?

Wait..the PS3 takes 20 second to boot? It seems like it ALWAYS takes longer for me..(maybe because my HDD is super full and the XMB is..uh...it doesn't like digital hoarders like myself)

There is no sleep resume at launch.

30 seconds not a huge deal. but disappointing.

no i'm not talking about sleep/resume. I'm saying this cold-boot sounds like when you press the switch at the back of the console, and then turn the system on. Which everyone does the first time. But every time afterwards you turn on the system from a low powered state (the switch at the back always stays on), so the boot time may be shorter?

Glad I have a SSD waiting for my ps4 babby on friday.

Not that 30 seconds is anything to get out of shape about either though.

lol, so the "cover-ups" turned out to be:

- Booting from scratch takes an extra 10 seconds
- Twitch is integrated and working day one, with additional features
- Videos are allowed to stream instead of download
- You can double-tap the PS button to quick-switch
- Trophies have rarity levels

What a mess! :p
But seriously, did I miss any actual bad features here? What was the rumor that Beer was talking about, then? Was it about PSN instead of the UI? Then why does the Store load quickly and efficiently, according to IGN? Did anyone at all complain about online gameplay so far from the event?

30s is quite a lengthy bootup. It sucks already on PS3 as well, if you have an external HDD plugged in, and a lot of files on internal drive, I'm sure it can take even longer than that before you can actually do anything (and that health warning didn't help things either). I hope they patch in standby mode as soon as possible.

Hmm. You know I've never timed that on my PS3. But I think its the same either way.

PREORDER CANCELLED BABRBGBGAB

So did all these places really play PS4 today. WTF are they not allowed to share anything meaningful. For fucks sake it comes out FRIDAY!

30 second boot time isn't that bad. But I'm more concerned about how long it takes to load games/apps once the system is on etc. If that's instant, then we are good. The Wii U's UI was a disaster in this regard.

welp here we go again it is officially a console launch

I mean the Wii U problem were crazy for a long while beyond launch window

at least you guys will get a fix sooner

Just enough time for me to go grab a glass of orange juice, I'm sure Sarah Greene will be up for some Knack when I get back..

Uhhh i'm pretty sure the console has a sleep state still. Unless Sony lied or i've misread the FAQ. You just can't resume games once you've gone into the sleep state. So instead of 30 seconds to boot up, and 30 seconds to load a game (depending on the game of course) for a total of a minute to play a game. You can subtract that first 30 seconds to boot if you use sleep mode. once that patch comes out the game load should be gone as well (as long as it's the same game you had the console sleep on).

Depends on what 30s is. The PS3 might be 20 but you can't do shit since it's busy loading in everything under the sun for the next 30s.

30 seconds?! I cannot possibly even begin to imagine what I can do to fill 30 seconds. We're only humans, man. We only get so many 30 seconds!

AFAIK, XB1 cold boot is 17 or 20s (and it has suspend mode at launch)

Yeah, that's a problem with PS3. If the internal HDD is full with stuff, this secondary wait can really get quite long.
