Game Informer: PS4's boot time makes us eager for 'suspend & resume'

For anyone complaining about 30s. Please cold booth your 360 or Iphone, then time how long that takes lol.

30s is nothing.

I'm used to long boots, the 360 takes forever, so I generally plan it out, turn it on and go for a bathroom break or something.

Holy shit what a letdown. You have to use electricity to power this thing?
That's what I heard. However, I'm still trying to contact YOSP to find out.

What iphone do you have? My 5s takes less than 30.

But still 30 seconds isn't anything.

Even from standby?
I don't think it really matters. In case of PS3 it seems about the same if you unplug it or if you start from standby.

At least we know suspend mode is coming, as well as that they've finally got around to not including all those instructional and warning title screens before every game.

it's already been confirmed that PS4 can sleep/wake... it's the SUSPEND A GAME AND RESUME IT FROM SLEEP that isn't there at launch or the 1.5 update...

so why does this article even exist?

but the xbox one's boot time is practically instantaneous
what a real disappointment 30 seconds are practically an hour

/s

no but really my laptop takes longer to boot up than 30 seconds, it's a really dinky laptop :(

30 seconds a day is 2.5 minutes a week, 130 minutes a year which is over 21 hours over the life cycle I CAN NEVAR GET BACK WATCHING A BOOT UP!!!!

no biggie. They'll both be in low power state with how often I'll be on them.

My PC took longer than that to fully boot before I switched to a SSD. Don't see this as an issue. If the OS crashes, then I might see that as an issue as it affects actual use/playing games.

Near the same as every console ever including the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, Xbox One, etc from cold boot, so not very surprising at all.

PS4 has a standby low power state at launch

PS4 however does not have

Standby save state or hibernate if you wanna call it that. When you put PS4 in low power state, it closes your game.

Get your facts right at least with your faux outrage.

I don't think that's right. It has standby, but that doesn't mean it won't have to boot from that.

that's why it's called standby though. PS3 doesn't have a *true* standby state like, say, the Vita does when you hit it's power button and then again. the PS4 has a standby mode, and i think whoever wrote the article doesn't realize that, and is confused about the suspend/resume game function that will be missing, and thinks that is referring to there not being a standby mode at launch.

so to clarify:
PS4 will have a standby/wake mode at launch
PS4 will not have a suspend game and resume from standby mode at launch or 1.5

they think that the latter means the former won't be there either.

Serious question. Who actually fully turns off their system anyway?

I don't think I have cold booted my system since Bush was in office lol.

I have timed my Windows 7 bootup from splash. It is 64 seconds.

My Ubuntu is 7 seconds.

My IPhone 4S is 36 seconds

And ya know, with all of those, no fucks were given lol.

We are truly starving for info on this system.

Yep. SSD makes for a crazy fast boot up. Not that I ever power my iMac down...

So this is a cold boot that takes 30 seconds? Can't you just put it to sleep and have it come on instantly? I know you can't sleep it during a game, but besides that it should just resume instantly.

What's the big deal?

30 seconds does suck though. Things should get better, not worse when you update to a new system

Yeah that's how I feel. I mean, I get why people are saying it's not a big deal, and are defending it from harsh criticism. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a deal breaker. But are these same people really going to act like they wouldn't welcome a 15-second boot time? Or something that is substantially faster?

I don't think so. I just hope that once the system is booted up fully, loading of games/apps are more instantaneous.

yeah that's awesome which is why IT IS A PROBLEM PS4 DOES NOT HAVE SUSPEND & RESUME AT LAUNCH :P

My PC boots in 6 seconds*

*with SSD

But seriously, are you sure PS3 is 20 seconds? Seems a lot faster than that. 30 seems a bit of a pain, but I'm sure I won't notice it if I sit farther from my TV....

EXACTLY.

game informer doesn't realize that the PS4 can go to sleep and wake up without having to be completely shut down like PS3 and then completely cold booted back up. it's going to be like the Vita where you tap the power button and then tap it again and you're right back at the lock screen. like when you tap the power button on your smartphone. it doesn't turn it OFF, it just puts it to sleep, from which it wakes very quickly.

they think that the missing suspend/resume is the standby mode, and it's not. it's the suspend A GAME and resume A GAME function. big difference.

I always put my pc in Hibernate mode. If suspend works like it sound it shouldn't be expected to cold boot each break. Maybe cold boot once per day. I don't know how much energy is used in suspend thouhg.

Just because you can't suspend/resume games doesn't mean you can put the console into sleep mode. As of now I haven't heard anything about that not being a feature at launch.
