Killzone Shadow Fall Review Thread

Golfham, Polygon is salty.

Embrace the special sauce people. This was always where the special sauce was going to come from.

Best Killzone game? Looks like it.

Can't see how you can properly review it though if all the mp reviewers have played is sessions using dev-kits at GG's offices.

To be fair, playing against other journalists is probably a more enjoyable experience than getting ripped apart online by people who are actually good at the game.

What are reviewers saying about multiplayer? That's all I really care about.

Clearly there is an anti-Sony agenda at hand here. I have seen both Knack and Killzone SF via online video streaming and they are both amazing video games. That cannot be questioned, and any opinion to the contrary is not to be believed. Killzone has never been anything but a top rate FPS franchise. Knack is possibly one of the greatest platformers of all time based on the Cerny connection. I wonder how much MS paid for these review scores as these are not believable opinions unless the scores are 90 or above.

GG has proven to be a very mediocre developer so far, pretty much Sony's version of Crytek.

No just no. Go have a look at the best fps of this generation thread on GAF. Like I said, many people regard KZ2 as the best fps of this generation. Just because many people didn't buy it or didn't give the MP much of a chance, doesn't make it mediocre. The multiplayer in that game was nothing shy of sheer magnificence.

These reviews barely had time with or barely mention the multiplayer in Shadow Fall, so perhaps the main facet of this game is either being glossed over or barely been given much importance.

3 whole hours of multiplayer at the pre-release event? Why not just wait till the game is out and try the multiplayer than? Gotta be out the quickest out though right? Smh.

I didn't play the game, but if the complaints are true, then I think it proves the main problem of launch titles. Developers need to spend at least 1 to 2 years (even more in some cases) with a hardware and SDK that isn't final and subject to many changes along the way. Not only that, they can't postpone the release, so these two reasons can definitely limit the game design and problems that could be solved.

Other devs now have one year or more to spend with the final hardware and then I'm sure we'll see a lot of good stuff later next year.

So...if Killzone is "generic"...what does that make BF and COD?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a review that actually goes in-depth with the multiplayer. Gunplay, map design, customizable warzone options, challenges, ect. It seems most these reviews are heavily focused on the SP while the MP is regulated to a small paragraph at the bottom. I am more interested in the part of the game that I will invest 100+ hours in than the story I will play once.
Exactly how I'm feeling right now. These reviews weren't written for me, lol.

That's it, I just can't take Polygon seriously, why let Gies of all people review a Sony Exclusive? That just blows my mind, never visiting that site again.

Funny how KZ gets hammered for its SP and AI, when other games like BF4 and COD suffer from the same problem. KZ looks as good, if not better than BF4 and has a great MP component to it. Also, the one thing that KZ gets right is that IT DOESN'T CRASH OR STUTTER.

I've never played a KZ game, so I have to figure this lack of "growth" or whatever won't effect me. Think that's a safe bet?

Otherwise I swap this for Ghosts or NFS.

reviews read like every Killzone so far, with even better graphics than before.

Yeah of course, if you crap on Killzone for being generic while giving better scores to COD and BF, then you might get people complaining.

but how is the MP? who plays SP in these kind of shooters
Just stop. That shit got old years ago.

...

Kotaku's complaint about visual noise rings true. Its something that has bothered me about all the Killzones. Something in the lighting doesn't communicate the right depth, or else everything in an area is lit in such a way that nothing stands out so it all blends together, and takes a lot more work to make sense of the environments you're in. Its weird to describe, but after playing through Killzone 3 again, it was very apparent.

Funny how people react to one individuals review, this is one dudes opinion of the game, one random dude.

People here complain so much about the review industry, and then in practice want to crucify any reviewer if they don't fall in line.

EDIT: Err, some people. The majority of people are reasonable.

I'll be using this game to show off my PS4 to my friends in X-Mas.

I generally dislike FPS games, the only game I ever dug was Crysis. I really wished Crytek just remade Crysis 1, 2, or 3 for launch. meh.

Guys....it one review. One man's opinion. Hell the game only really got 2 "bad" scores. Like seriously chill out guys.

As for me, the flaws aren't a problem as I am not a big FPS player so most of this shit will be new to me.

But in the end, we need to stop getting so angry over other people's opinions. If Polygon bothers you that much, just ignore them. There are a billion other sites. If you think they are trolling for hits, then going apeshit only means it works.

A lot of the criticisms I'm reading don't hold much weight with me.

A lot of talk about the story being cliched or falling flat.
- Don't care

A lot of talk about the game not being a big enough change
- Only played KZ2 to completion

I bought this because it's a graphical showpiece and because the KZ formula is fun enough.

Console shooters have been stagnating for a while now, it's telling that Polygon picks a flagship first party launch title (in a series that was always more about the spectacle than pushing any sort of gameplay boundaries) to suddenly speak out about it. These guys gave COD:Ghosts a better score and that's an entire franchise that did with the FPS what Madden/FIFA did with the sports game.

Comics, serious business!

Why do you keep spouting this nonsense? Clearly they got lucky with KZ2. The franchise as a whole and Geurilla's output as a whole is undeniably the definition of mediocrity. They haven't exactly lit the sales charts on fire, either.

Sounds like a mediocre launch FPS.

We need a "Che" to give it a 9 or higher for a proper Perfect Dark: Zero callback.

Wonder if it is worse than COD.... I have not bought a COD game in years (last one was MW2) Though I have played the others, I still don't have any desire to purchase/play them for some reason. I actually want to play Killzone though... oddly enough.

So it's basically the PDZ of this gen? That sucks.
Well, expectations are higher this time around. I suspect it's a better game than PDZ ever was BUT, in 2013, maybe isn't good enough. At least it doesn't have crippling performance issues like PDZ.

People see the review score they want: "Games reviewers are really on point an a valuable facet of the medium we enjoy!"

People see the review score they don't want: "Games reviewers are pointless, really biased, and you shouldn't trust anything they say."

You can't make this shit up. Quit looking for self-gratification. If you like the game? Who gives a fuck what another person thinks?

I want MP impressions honestly. I'm looking forward to whether its more KZ2 or KZ3. We shall see -_-

Sessler said in his video review that he thought it was fun, but he didn't feel like going back to it after a few games. I heard the same feedback from COD Ghosts from various reviewers. I'm not sure if reviewers are just getting bored with the MP of shooters too soon, or if the MP actually does get boring fast?

Guess we'll have to wait for people to get their hands on it for a better comparison.

he has a point though. For me and a lot of people MP is the bread and butter and a review that focuses 90% of it's time on the SP makes for a review not worth reading.

The point should be that reviewing competitive multiplayer in a pre-release state is an utter waste of time. You can get an idea of what's going on, but those impressions are not indicitive of what may actually be there.
