Outside of doing all the setup, configuring Kinect and hooking up my cable box, the first game I will play/install is Forza 5. My list in order is as follows:

1. Forza 5
2. Ryse
3. Dead Rising 3
4. Battlefield 4
5. Need for Speed Rivals
6. Skylanders Swap Force

All the download games like Kinect Sports Pre-Season, Killer Instinct will come during some of the breaks in-between some of the main games.

Going to be a long ass day of playing and messing around with all the functions of the system and games.

Is this ... real life?

I thought only Xbox 360 owners were switching this gen!

Nope, I grew up with Playstation. Then PS2. Then PS3. And now Xbone (at a time when the Xbox brand is not exactly in the best situation while Playstation has done pretty damn well for itself). At the end of the day they are just game consoles. Plastic boxes. I don't believe in identifying yourself with products despite whatever marketing forces may want to indoctrinate you with (on either side). If you don't have the money for both choosing your first console is as simple as doing a cost-benefit analysis of what games and ecosystem you prefer more and what money you're able to put down.

Very easily.

* Cable is very long (easily long enough for any Earth TV height)
* Kinect's improved viewing angle also makes it better at sitting under your TV, in front of the stand since it can "see" floor at a FAR more raked angle now
* IR blaster is total Honey Badger and can EASILY hit a device anywhere in the same room (even if, like mine, that device is DIRECTLY beneath the Xbox One)
* Is also surprisingly good in noisy environments

Thanks, think I'll stay with it above the TV like now.

KI is going to be great for idling during lobbies or match-making.

Just have your game setup waiting for match-making and chill in KI's dojo and practice your combos.

This is going to be the longest week of my life. Preordered Forza and intend to get Crimson Dragon and Killer Instinct. If the reviews are where I hope they are come Monday/Tuesday, I'll be grabbing Dead Rising 3 as well, probably digitally.

Problem is I'm leaving town on the 23rd. I plan on bringing my new console with me on the week-long trip, but I'm not sure how good my odds are of setting up the system and downloading three games between the time I get home from work on launch day and when I have to leave Saturday afternoon.

Basically, I hope Live is more stable on Friday than PSN has been this weekend.

Well you hit the nail on the head with the indoctrination comment. I said a few pages back, save for $100 the Xbox One goes toe to toe with PS4 in all regards and excels in some areas (like PS4 does in raw power) yet 'the net' seems to think people are totally bonkers for going with Xbox One over PS4.

It's all about the games, and Xbox One is doing very very well in that department right now.

You can't multi-task games though, can you?

So like load up a BF4 match while playing KI? I don't think you can do that...

Okay so earlier I got two emails. One from MSFTStore and one from my Bank. There was an authorization problem because my bank needed me to confirm that it wasn't credit card fraud or something. I confirmed with my bank and then had to update my payment options at ms store from the link in the email.

Minutes later, I checked my bank account and saw that it was charged, which is good. I still haven't received a payment confirmation email or tracking number yet. Do I wait or what?

Just got destroyed by a Microsoft store employee at KI, apparently not having an update didn't allow me to see forza, and they aren't allowed to show the dashboard.

Controller feels nice, I don't get the complaints about the bumpers, they feel great to me.

KI looked super sharp and was very fast, would have been more fun if I knew wtf I was doing.

I hope Killer Instinct does well. I'm not sure what internal goals MS have but I hope they're not unrealistic to greenlight Season 2/3.

Thanks for posting, but to clarify something posted earlier, is it possible to play/suspend two different games at the same time to enable instant game-switching? It'd make this matchmaking system pretty nifty.

If the games were purchased digitally, yes you can. Obviously, when we went back to discs this is something you loose because you need to go insert the disc.

There are still some details to be worked out that may be game specific.
So there are some details still TBD. But the intent of how we built the system was to do exactly that.

Sorry to nag you for further clarification but I'm genuinely curious.

Do BOTH games have to be purchased digitally? Or would it be possible to switch between games if only one of them is digital.

Like say you're playing from the disc of a game like Ryse, Titanfall, Halo or whatever and you're searching for a multiplayer match. Would it be possible to switch over to a digital only title like a Killer Instinct or Crimson Dragon and play that while the matchmaking runs in the background? Or is this only going to be available if both titles are digital?

Great question, and that exact scenario was why I put in the CYA statement around "some details to be worked out" :)

I'm not sure the answer. I'll know more later.

Not sure if we got the clarification. But sounds possible.

I just had my carpet cleaned so I had to move all of the AV equipment out of the living room. There is an open spot and an open ethernet cable waiting for the Xbox One.

I'm going to play Ryse first and then Battlefield. Then purchase Crimson Dragon and KI if the reviews are high enough (definitely going to play it with Jago!

Love the avatar!

Live may run into a few hiccups... but it should be much more stable than PSN. It always has been.

I wanted to show everyone how I mounted my kinect 1. I bought a mount kit and screwed it to my wire cover. That is the black thing in the middle of the pic. It turned out really clean looking. I also built a floating box and mounted the Xbox power supply underneath it. My tv is a bit high but the level I could mount the kinect was perfect. I just took all my Xbox stuff down today getting ready for next gen!

It's funny, considering where we were after the reveals (PS4 - "For the gamers!" vs XB1 - "TV TV TV TV TV") that XB1 is actually looking in better shape games wise right now. It almost certainly has by far the stronger launch lineup, although Sony set that bar way low.

Ad we have not seen anything from the indy thing yet, hopefully soon.

Any of you seeing a new Netflix interface on the 360? It looks pretty nice. I wonder if this is what we will see on XBO?

That's the new standard Netflix UI (across all platforms). There were reports that Xbox wasn't going to get this UI but last night I started Netflix and there's the new interface. I don't see why Xbox One would use anything difference unless the new App for One is not ready.

I know its a long shot, but does anyone know if you can use your old Kinect 1.0 wall mount with the new Kinect?

sold off the old Kinect a few days ago because I don't need the clutter, but left the wall mount up because I figured I couldn't get anything for it anyway

I don't have a super fancy set up (everyones got their budget) but itd be nice if I could use the wall mount for something other than having an awesome place to put Arnie from Predator.

Lets just hope it's a direction MS is going in and not just a cynical tactic to get gamers into the ecosystem, only to reduce the game focus dramatically.

Sony's got some nice stuff coming.

You won't, XB1 is the only device that is not getting the Netflix redesign because it's not
compatible with XB1's overall design language.

That's weird, aren't the 360 and One design languages essentially the same? It looks fine on my 360. Maybe they'll give us something even better for the One, then! :)

EDIT: Oh, and since I'm talking about Netflix, BBC needs to add the latest season of Doctor Who! lol

My aim is to buy powerstar golf first (if its good)download that and give that a whirl whilst waiting for Dead Rising 3 and BF4 to download.

Still not 100% on what my digital purchases will be but so far I'm thinking:

BF4
Dead Rising 3
Forza 5
Powerstar golf

I will also pick up KI as a freebie :)
