This goes without saying, but PurchaseRestrictedCountries is intended to block certain countries from purchasing, like with Space Quest and AU/NZ because Acti sucks:

With region-specific subs, using "Yes" instead of "No" restricts the sub availability to the mentioned territories (they'd otherwise show up in the stores of other regions). For example, clicking this link will work while this one will just redirect you back to the main page.

Oh, I see (I assumed something like that). So, it seems there is no region lock, that's good. Nobody seems to be interested in that coupon though. Which I find strange, since it essentially gives you 60% off a great, very recent game.

It doesn't ooze atmosphere, exploration, horror or mystique, though.

It oozes lots of shouting and coursing instead. :D

The game is all about atmosphere, exploration and horror or mystique. It's also really hard and sometimes unfair but that doesn't make it less awesome.

To start you off: Gone Home, the Half-Life 2 series, the Stalker series (shadow or call), the Metro series, and DEFCON.

EDIT: Also your profile is set to private.

EDIT2: Yep The Swapper is good too.

I have set my profile to "users only". =/

Thanks for the recommendations. Yeah, I already got Gone Home and Metro on my wish list but I don't think the Stalker series is on Linux. I'll check up on it.

I'm only looking for Linux games, as my Windows computer can't play games well and my MacBook is only for work and studies. :)

Steam Machines won't be out till Q2/Q3 '14 presumably, so basing them on "currently" is a tad silly. Valve said they're working with devs on it and expect more announcement. Of course to what extent, we don't know, but that's all we have for now.

Yeah, I'm just preparing a little. I'm not planing to jump in right now. Just excited for hooking up a high end Steam Machine to my HDTV next year, and thus just wanted to check out Steam and see what it were all about. But I'll be in full swing next year. :)

I MIGHT check out Gone Home or Amnesia on my MacBook Air if I can't contain my excitement though.

Finally finished Rogue Legacy today (NG+ awaits), and I think I can confidently say this is on my shortlist for 2013 Game of the Year whenever GAF runs the thread. It has so much I look for in a game

- Gameplay
- Humor
- Soundtrack
- Infuriating Difficulty
- A tickling of Childhood Memories

Rogue Legacy draws upon a lot of what made the NES and SNES such a popular console, at least in the Lucha-Household. It takes a basic concept (platforming) and twists into a complex hazard filled world that slowly builds up in infuriating difficulty as you die and reborn.

Abilities are gained and unlocked with each generation, depending on the bounty you collected in a previous life - double/triple jump, dash, flying, etc. Those skills might first appear trivial, but they become almost essential as the game progresses. If not only to kill and avoid mobs, but to unlock some of the hidden chests, and the challenge chests.
You see, Cellar Door have been clever with this game, and are aware of what abilities it has given the player and makes sure that the player WILL have to use them at some point. They're not just window dressing.

The simple nature of the game carries over to the 'fighting system' too. 1 Button for Sword, 1 for Magic, 1 for special ability and another for jump. However, it's how you link these simple buttons together that can cause chaos, panic and eventually joy.
Why?
Well, it's the mobs. The assortment of mobs again are simple and have simple attacks, but it's the pairings and timings of the mobs when grouped together that become a headache, a frustrating headache that is rewarding to dodge and kill without being hit.

However, it's not a game that takes itself seriously, as there are ton of humor in this game too, as can be seen from the game's trailer. It promotes flatulent heroes, dwarves, colourblind heroes and so many other insane combinations of flaws and gift-like-traits.
This traits can make or break a generation run through the castle.
What's more is the game has a progression system, linked to a castle which you build up with Gold you gain with every run. As you unlock new classes, or boost your attack/health, the castle grows, and new traits and classes start to appear in your gene pool.

Words can't really do the game justice, as reading this back I'm making it sound like a really basic game, but it's so much more. If this had been released in the 90s on the SNES it would be regarded today as one of the SNES' greatest games.
I found it to be a hugely enjoyable and fun game, and despite the nature of the beast (it's a game that WANTS to kill you and WILL kill you), I never really felt the enjoyment dissipate.

(as a side this is the first game I've actively sought to buy the OST for).

I didn't meant to diminish Binding of Isaac (I think it's a great game), but I honestly never thought of it as a [those 4 things] game.
Yes, you explore, but it's very driven to get the best weapon of the floor and fight the boss.
Yes, there is mystique... especially when your tears become lasers or something.
But no, there is no horror at all (I don't consider horror the short cutscenes between floors).
And there is very little atmosphere too. It's an "arcade" game, you play it for the sake of playing it and everything else is purely accessory to that.

Then I'd probably just wait for buying anything on Steam until steamOS and the Steamboxes actually release. We have no idea what the end result will be, and Linux support could be very different at that time, whenever it is.

Guys, can you help me out?
After I played through FEAR and Riddick, I've decided to drown myself in RPGs (mostly old one, with the isometric view), and I need a few recommendations.

My list as of now is:

Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale 1 and 2
Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2
(I already own Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics)

What would you add? Basically, go on GOG.com and tell me what to buy in the RPGs section. :lol

My opinion: don't even bother with NWN and Icewind Dale, they are just subpar, but definitely get Ultima VII (at least), look into Gothic (start with the first one). The other extremely worthy ones are Ultima Underworld, Arx Fatalis, Arcanum (!!!) and Darklands. Oh, and then there is Divine Divinity and its sequels, and Wizardry (8 is the only one I played so far, but it's excellent), and Betrayal at Krondor, and Dark Sun, and Albion (the last two aren't on GOG or Steam though). Enough to last you a few years, really.

Journey of a Roach worth jumping into? I've never played a Daedalic game before.

Do you like point and click games? If so, I recommend you play one of Daedalic's point and clicks. Journey of a Roach didn't do it for me. It seemed a bit lacking...but if you actually like pnc games then there's a few great Daedalic games.

Oh man I was all excited about that Defiance giveaway since I'm currently watching the show, what happened to it? I doubt the game can live up to the rating of excellent trash that I have currently assigned to the tv-show.

Oh man thanks for Defiance, poopninjamvc3mk. I watched the show and got hooked on it an I read the game ties up with the show so I am excited to see that. :)

Fucking Ubisoft, I haven't been able to play the Rayman Legends challenges all weekend. The servers are always down.

Fuck you, fuck Uplay and fuck your fucking servers.

Just got the Binding of Isaac dlc. Did they make this shit even harder? o.0 Maybe it's just rust, but I could clear the og version pretty easily.

They did; the new enemies, floor variants, and the addition of items to the item pool that sometimes aren't preferential to get all add up to something that's a bit harder than the original if you already unlocked all the vanilla content. It's even worse if you're going into it fresh.

That is exactly what I'm doing...

You need to add Arcanum to that list, it's not perfect but I think it's a great game.

You have it pretty well covered with that list. You can chuck out NWN if you want to save some money or add ultima 6 and 7 if you want the two best games of all time.

That is a new one, but welcome! Make sure to grab yourself the enhanced steam plugin, find some games you want and post your profile link if you want some friends and an invite to the steam group.

Thank you! Added those games to my wishlist.
Some are seriously old. :lol

About Baldur's Gate, is it safe to assume that the best versions are the recently released HD versions?

Well, a month ago I would have said no, but Baldurs Gate 1 EE recently got a huge patch that fixed almost everything wrong with that version, and added mod compatibility I believe. IMO, it's worth it. Haven't heard anything about BG2 EE.

I would like games that oozes atmosphere, maybe exploration, horror or mystique. I already added the Amnesia games to my wish list.

Get STALKER immediately. Specifically Call of Pripyat, but Shadow of Chernobyl is really good too.

Finished F.E.A.R. 3 earlier today. The combat in this game can be pretty good, when the game isn't pitting you against those goddamn Phasecasters. I really don't understand what they're supposed to be, but apparently Armacham has crazy supersoldiers now.

The storyline in this game is just as weird as the previous one, and save for a few remarks (I still don't get why the Point Man was running around some spanish-speaking shanty town at the start of the game) wasn't that bad. The main issue I had was with the way it was presented, with almost everything being a horribly compressed FMV. The previous games never had this, and I still don't see why this game needed them. Keeping everying first-person would've been great. It was a shame the only voice actor they could get back from the original was Peter Lurie: I loved Harlan Wade's voice actor in the first two games.

Also, the ending boss fight. What the shit.

But ultimately, I did have fun with F.E.A.R. 3. It's a terrible F.E.A.R. game, but a competent shooter.

Is there anyway to fix the gunplay a little? Master is kicking my ass because five enemies will ping me while I'm trying to take down one with headshots and the damage rate of them vs me is a little insane...

Yes, yes, yes: Tone down the difficulty: That would be nice if: BULLETS DIDN'T DISAPPEAR on lower difficulties. Even enemies bullets disappear. WTF GCW??

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Anyone here used RandomGameKeys.eu?

I imagine most of it is garbage, but I'm curious if anyone here has bought random Steam keys there and got something good.

From what I've heard elsewhere, they're mostly reselling indie bundle keys (illegally?)

I'm pretty sure it all depends on your weapon/armor. In master difficulty, the enemies are just as fragile as you are, but they may have better armor/guns. If you're constantly upgrading your arsenal and equipping good artifacts, you should be fine for the most part.

Not sure if there's any mods that fix gunplay per se, this might help: http://www.moddb.com/mods/mso-massive-simulation-overhaul

It revamps the entire AI system and revises their reaction times/accuracy/behavior etc.

Essentially, yes. The golden rule is not to play vanilla here, you have to install a number of fixes and mods to have a proper experience. EE comes with all that out of the box, but some people argue that you can achieve better result with custom mods and whatnot. I don't think it matters that much, especially if you don't want to tinker too much and aren't interested in fan-made content.

Absolutely, Pripyat at night or dusk raining, in Pripyat, during an event, modded, maxed graphics, headphones = the most atmospheric game I have EVER played. It is absolutely wonderful. Another one I'd easily recommend is Dark Souls.

^^^ Damn, so sad about Rebirth.

If there's anyone still on the fence about buying X:Rebirth, I say this as someone who gladly pre-ordered the first day it was available on Steam.

Please don't.

Yes, there are some good things about it. The flying environment is pretty. The combat isn't terrible, but the rest of the game is just a mess. There are good ideas in there, but it will take likely months to patch into decent shape if they are even willing to invest that much time in such a broken game.

To top it all off, in a time when PC gaming is flourishing, there is mounting evidence that this game was intended as a console game and simply ended up being ported to PC. As a huge fan of the X series (which are decidedly not console experiences), I see this as little more than a betrayal.

Terribly disappointing.

Would you recommend vanilla "Shadow of Chernobyl", or modded (i.e. the Misery mod, or the "Stalker Complete" mod)? From what I understand, the two mods are complete overhauls of game mechanics, but the community reviews are a bit divisive.

I'm still in Garbage and have the double-barrel shotgun, starting pistol, silent pistol, and SMG. And I'm still struggling with that Mercenary Armor against five enemies flanking me and shooting me while I'm trying to take one down with the pistol.

Get the complete mod, Misery is only for CoP and you won't be able to play it all, it's for the super hardcore only.

Complete makes the game MUCH, MUCH easier, and some say it breaks the game because of it. It does make the game mighty pretty though, if that's a thing for you.

I would recommend playing through with this mod: http://www.metacognix.com/stlkrsoc/.
