I already own a gaming PC. AMD all the way. Thanks for the reminder, NVIDIA.
it's not just about convenience.
the next gen console for example, are actually quite limited as entertainment hubs on their own. They will improve over time sure.... but right now, i don't think setting them up for that task will be all that convenient.
I'm not sure you read my whole post.
More expensive games that you can lend to friends, sell, or trade in to stores. It's a pretty even tradeoff if you're comparing MSRP.
convenience is...
-being able to plug and play any headset/mic i choose
-logging on to skype, mumble, ventrilo or whatever VOIP client suites the occasion
-choosing which set of peripherals are most suited to the game i'm playing
-setting up a playlist made of whatever music i feel like listening to in any format
-having dozens of separate stores all offering me different bargains on thousands of digital titles
-being able to record footage or take screenshots at any quality i want and edit them with the same production suites i use for everything else
-having the entire game library i've been building up over the last couple of decades ready to run from my desktop
-alt-tabbing to read a GAF post in the 30 seconds before the round starts
-throwing a stream open on my second monitor while playing a particularly passive game
-rolling up my FOV slider to gain a little more perspective
-rolling down my video settings to give me a higher framerate
-being able to upgrade any part of my hardware without being locked out of my entire back-catalogue
i don't consider these things back-of-the-box bullet points, i consider them essential elements of a dignified experience. by comparison, console gaming couldn't be less convenient.
Yeah, but PS3 is 7 years old. A PC will get obsolete and possibly have difficulty playing the newest games in year, let alone 7 years.

That's the thing: There's a *ton* of nuance, and just stating that the enthusiast gamer should pick PC because it's just Better is going to leave you with some - subjectively, of course - inferior options. Far better for the enthusiast gamer to go where the games they want to play are.
You do realize many of the things you describe in no way would be quantified by "convenience" right?
But by "functionality"?
Basically.PC/3DS is the way to go for now.
Pick up PS4 in a year or two when it has some games.
Also, it's not an upgrade, it's a whole new system.

We're all about the coordinated playtime hours Steam Family Sharing now. Friends on the other side of the globe have never been so convenient. ;DI'm sure you have a bristling PS4 game trading circle between your friends. You have to be open to the idea that some people in PC gaming are totally beyond the point of thinking about retail games as a thing, and for good reason. It's inconvenient and expensive.
you realise those terms are in no way mutually exclusive?
Of course not, almost all of what is being discussed in here is of a subjective measure but several of your quips are added functionalities from PC gaming and while certainly a valid point of argument etc. would not fit within such a comparison between consoles and PCs as convenient
How is getting more perspective or framerate convenience?

The state of being able to proceed with something with little effort or difficulty. If you don't want those things, I guess they're just functions.
i play games, sometimes i want a higher framerate or a little wider field of view. it's pretty convenient that i just so happen to have the option there to give me them.
this isn't complicated.
if consoles had that option but it required a firmware hack, that would certainly be considered less convenient. as it is, they don't have that option at all.
Personally, I've had zero problems. I've owned both NVIDIA and AMD, and I personally found AMD to provide a much better product than NVIDIA for the price.Genuine question, how things been on the AMD side? Any probs at all? I haven't used an AMD graphics card since they were called ATI. I'm considering the switch when I make a mini ITX steam machine
Right and I would quantify that as added functionality as it is an entirely binary comparison. PCs have that option, Consoles don't
Therefore one is not more convenient than the other as its simply not possible no matter the inconvenience to achieve it on said consoles
the word convenience doesn't exist purely as a comparative between two similar implementations. that is a completely bizarre and arbitrary interpretation and i have no idea how you arrived at it.
Convenient procedures, products and services are those intended to increase ease in accessibility, save resources (such as time, effort[1] and energy) and decrease frustration. Convenience is a relative concept, and depends on context. For example, automobiles were once considered a convenience, yet today are regarded as a normal part of life.

AMD's older cards (like 2 years ago) were a little weak on the software side, but as of last year I feel like the parity is equal, all while you save monies.
Hell, the only thing that gives me problem is my HDD. Need to move to SSD soon!
A whole new system with 0% of the games in the PC catalog. You can't see where they're coming from?

How would you be able to feel something is convenient without experiencing something that is inconvenient? It has always been a relative term in my mind
I think one of you guys is arguing that having to choose between options is inconvenient, while the other is arguing that not having any options is inconvenient. Am I getting that right?
this argument is no more complex than understanding that sometimes being able to do something is convenient and not being able to do it is inconvenient.
if this is incompatible with your thinking, that's something you're going to want to get fixed.
LOL! Right on. If it matters, my PC is a few years old. The only recent upgrade (and by recent I mean a year ago) was an increase of RAM to 16GB and my newer AMD card which is 2GB HD 6950 (which maybe pretty ancient for PC Gaming GAF). Me and my brother use the exact same card on two different gaming machines (I use AMD Processor and he's using Intel. He used to have NVIDIA card but transitioned after seeing my PC's performance when playing Battlefield). I can play all the latest games on Medium/High settings without any hiccups. Thanks, you've made me an AMD convert for the foreseeable future! I just need to determine if the hybrid HDD/SSDs are good or not and i'm set!
BUT CAN YOU PLAY UNCHARTED
this is the view from my couch from a shitty camera phone adding a weird yellow tint...just moved so this is the quick and dirty.
wireless 360 controller for the PC which is under a desk with a monitor. Wireless KB with touch screen if I just want to use that by itself. Wireless mouse for playing ARPG/Moba/strategy, genres I now love but never would have known about had it not been for PC.
Media functionality?
Itunes-my entire library available and controllable with my iPhone. Also nice for listening to while playing loot/grinding style games.
NFL Sunday ticket online from purchase of Madden
Netflix/Prime Instant Video/HBO Go/Watch ESPN
Chrome browser allows for easy zooming in and out of web pages.
Cost
I spent $30 for Blacklist and AC IV.
In 3 years on pc have probably paid $60 for about 5 games, and I play every big game day one.
I can't imagine anything being more convenient. I think if more people knew how easy this is they'd do it in a heart beat. It wasn't cheap however.
I think NVIDIA has a good point... that people should definitely consider getting a PC instead of a next gen console.
More games, higher resolutions, much cooler future outlook (Oculus, 4k, G-sync), cheaper games, Mods, etc.
Invest in a high spec PC now (760/770 or 280x/290), and get one of the 3 consoles for exclusives down the line after they have had a price drop or two and a larger library of desirable exclusives.
Simply that without the option it is not a convenience debate but added functionality
But convenience IS a relative concept
What makes getting milk from the gas station convenient? Because getting it from a grocery store is less convenient
BUT CAN YOU PLAY UNCHARTED
And why not just get a PS4 and get it over with ?
I will be able to play Witcher 3 and later Ni no Kuni 2 and FF15 with just 400$
Yeah, but PS3 is 7 years old. A PC will get obsolete and possibly have difficulty playing the newest games in year, let alone 7 years.
Is Ni no Kuni 2 confirmed?
Why would you want to. I played the first game. It was crap.

I cheapened out on the HDD and it gives me one BSOD every 6 months (It's either the bad card, or that I have a lot or external devices connected that have very bad drivers with no alternatives), which I can live with but its scary because I have A LOT of files in their that I'm too lazy to backup. I'll do it when I made the SSD transition.
Hybrid drives are pretty good and gives a nice balance between the two. SSD are getting cheaper by the month so keep your eye out on it.
I know you are being sarcastic, but I honestly prefer Tomb Raider at 1080p60 to Uncharted. And I love Uncharted, but I can't go back to 720p30 with drops. Uncharted 3 was great, especially the real time water level, but the jaggies and frame rate put a damper on it, same for TlOU and GTAV. In this regard, we should give DICE props for doing 60 fps this gen...that's even more important than playing at the native res of your monitor.
And why not just get a PS4 and get it over with ?

Cyber you never played 2 or 3...Bro you missed out.
