New Driveclub footage looks stunning

DriveClub has a greater sense of speed then most 60fps racers I have played.

I know for a fact 30fps is just fine for a racer since I will optimize Grid 2 to run @ 30fps on my PC as long as it is smooth.

From the looks of it, the framerate is rock solid and that is all you really want. The sense of speed is there, the look is there, the collisions are there, etc. The game has come together very well.

30 or 60, instant purchase for me.

It's all so arbitrary. I've completely lost interest in even trying to argue with the '60 fps or no buy' group. Whatever floats their boat! (shrugs)

The 60 fps or no buy group were never going to buy it to begin with; Bunch of concern trolls. if the game was 60 fps there would be something else that would be a barrier to entry. They'd probably say something like, its too much of an arcade racer and not a Sim.

If this game maintains a rock solid completely locked 30 FPS, it will be glorious

The sense of speed Driveclub is actually delivering is on par, if not better, than most of the 60 FPS racers out there.

This is how much 60fps costs:

I'll take 30fps and awesome lighting, thanks.

Evert Forza 5 crowd shot I see that bald guy. It's like Where's Baldo.

I wish there where city tracks in DC. Boulevard overlooking the beach with tons of buildings, etc. Or a freeway :p

I can't think of a single 30 FPS racer that was worth playing except for the new Driver. It was worth it for the story. Seriously though racers need to be 60 FPS. I want to feel like I'm actually racing, not just take a slow stroll through the park.

Something tells me you never played these games or your memory is foggy. Especially the drawing distance on Outrun... dude!

Is this kind of drawing distance a joke to you?
Apart from the drawing distance, you just proved his point. The game is colourful, but you can easily point out the reasons how 60fps was achieved. Environmental detail is at its minimum, there's almost nothing on the roads or near them apart from your car and the geometric complexity is, well, non-existant. Houses are boxes, hills/mountains/cliffs are very edgy and have just completely awful textures. The car looks good and the sunny weather & shiny water makes it look not completely horrible, but that's not a technically impressive game in any way.

The framerate does not determine the sense of speed of a racer alone. Mario kart 7 is 60 FPS and it has a pretty low sense of speed. I do still prefer 60 FPS racers though

Haha.

No.

For sim racers, I gotta have 60fps. It was really hard to get into RACE PRO (30fps) on Xbox360, after playing FORZA2 (60fps).

For arcade racers, I'm OK with 30fps. Not that I wouldn't prefer 60fps, but it's certainly not impossible to enjoy a racer that's only 30fps. Test Drive Unlimited, Foraz Horizon.

I don't always want my racers to feel Realistic. Sometimes I want them to feel Cinematic.

Not even when you slow down for a corner?

You could forgive it if the graphics were amazing....but.......they aren't.

I'd be surprised if Driveclub doesn't have one or the other ugly spot as well.

Saying that Forza 5 graphics suck because of this screen is a bit silly.

I can think of several. Especially PGR4 and Forza Horizon were pretty great and provided an awesome sense of speed. I'd take their visual fidelity over Forza's (main series) 60 fps any day. Driveclub is clearly developed in the vein of those games.

Things could get quite silly actually. You can pick apart any game, including DriveClub.

So much hate for Forza 5, just because it's on the competing console....shame because the game is awesome and just missed 9's because of the amount of cars compared to the last game, but that's expected when every single car is built from the ground up and can be explored in autovista.

Here's a Gem, and actually on topic :p

The direct feed shots of this game aren't good. Plain and simple.

First of all, this is a very old build.

Second of all, what "cutout" crowd? They're clearly 3D, just like the pre-downgrade Forza crowd was 3D.

Thirdly, that's not a 2D backdrop. Driveclub doesn't use sky or environment boxes because everything is 100% dynamic. In order to support the lighting changes, not only from the position of the light, but the actual atmospheric conditions, it needs to be a 3D object. Even if that object only consists of very few polygons and some high res textures and shaders.

This game is looking better and better, I really like that the jaggies are practically unnoticeable to me

  • cool next gen lighting - check
  • high poly and detailed backgrounds and courses - check
  • no jaggies - check
  • 3d crowds - god dammit

So clearly a software limitation and not a hardware issue, I think we all agree. The problem is when the shoe is on the other foot, Forza doesn't get the same defense, you know, being a launch title and not given the extra time that DC is getting.

With comments like: "Clearly not targeting the highest end hardware" only suggests they can't do better than F5, so irritating, especially since PS4 is not targeting the highest end either.

Anyway, the point was that you can pick apart any game, any footage, any video. Final or not, that footage is 2013 footage running on PS4 hardware, and if the game had to make launch, it wouldn't have the extra time for improvements, so by the time DC launches, it would probably make more sense to compare to Forza Horizon, if they do release that in 2014.

Nah, Driveclub has been looking great since October, we would have gotten something along those lines.

And remember the difference between the power of the consoles also helps.

Your point was more " you can pick apart any game if you make stuff up which isn't true and hope you're not called out on it."

Funny how short that video clip was, but how beautiful it looked.

It's also funny because when DriveClub was revealed, most people's reactions were 'meh.'
With every new update we get of the game, it just keeps looking better and better. This may end up being the best looking console racer ever made. I do hope they can reach the 60fps target, though.

At least give us a demo track...something!!

That's actually a great idea. They should release a free demo track in January or something just so people can play and get a taste. Sony and MSoft should do stuff like this. Maybe for people with subscriptions.

Driver's solo is in 60fps (and the story is crap by the way).

My (superior) brain even adapts itself to the miserable framerate of GTA so I ain't afraid.

I hate this argument. There's no proof one has had more development time than the other. You act like both started development on the same day. It's quite possible that even with the delay, Forza was in development for a longer period of time. We'll never know, so it's pointless to debate that aspect.

Strange that every fucker & his dog noticed them in GT5

I didn't and I didn't in Forza 5 either. And I probably won't in any other racing game.

Graphics are nice but I like the way Driveclub plays and that's what excites me about it. Reminds me of PGR.
