Wait until MS press release. I think they are waiting until they pass Sony to officially release the data.

I'm pulling the crow out of the freezer to serve the naysayers

its gonna be a couple of weeks later saying were doing well to.. then one up one up ... but ill eat crow if by feb ps4 doesn't have a significant (30ish percent) lead.

1 million in Japan alone at launch? No way. It's 2.5 times smaller than the US, there is no way it's going to do a million. I expect 300k~400k.

Yep I agree, they will still be struggling to meet demand in NA and Europe come the Japan launch in March. I reckon Japan will get a supply of 600k or so, and sell through 500k in less than a week.

Hahaha, alright mate. Might just want to pull out one, though.

Edit:
If you can find a day one edition xbone I will pay you $1200 bucks for it.
Does this apply to Europe only? If not, I am about to be a rich, rich man.

agree they are going to keep pumping us and uk ... and then europe and finally japan when they have things like deep down out ... (and asia / other terretories later ... latin america would depend on their tax situation etc)

I feel bad for whoever has to write press releases that will never be seen. :(

MS used to make Sony desperate and therefore, we have a better Sony and PS4.

Do you think after Sony makes MS desperate and then we will have a better MS? Then more and more wonderful 1st party exclusive games for Xbox One?

I hope so...

I expected 1m NA and 1m EU/Aus

Sony even did better with, 1.4m NA, 700k EU/Aus...why?

Because I think any lead in the US is very important for Sony atm, EU will remain loyal no matter what. Smart stock allocation by Sony.

That could perfectly be the case. If PS4 is sold out in most (not all) retailers worldwide, then I would say this is indeed very good news. Very interesting weeks to come.

Do you think that Sony magically stopped producing PS4?

This gen I expect:

USA: close race with Xbone slightly ahead.
EU/ME: PS4 with a landslide lead.
Asia: PS4 lanslide
Jap: PS4 lanslide.

Total: ~40m PS4 lead.

And I in the mid 20's. That's good, does feel a lot better knowing someone is monitoring making sure everything goes well. Here in Sweden the risk of being robbed in broad daylight probably isn't as high as in Chicago (mean no disrespect, just what I think), but those thoughts always race through your mind. Glad everything went well though, the PS4 is truly worth every anxious moment I had before and during the launch. :)

Ah Sweden huh? Cool man I have a few close online friends from out there and you are spot on about Chicago. In certain area's the police do not even patrol because they get shot at, I am not kidding.

Anyways, enjoy the PS4! I know i will... And I'll see ya around Gaf!

Sounds hugely undershipped for europe.
I think the balance towards America is the right move. Winning those early NPDs is going to be very important for perception, that perception could be lost just by not shipping enough to America. sales from Europe are nowhere near as scrutinised

IF sold out in most retailers world wide?

lol you cant even find a ps4 at this point at ANY store. they don't stay. the back pre orders are off the roof

i don't think the Xbox one will take the lead this gen in US. but thats my 2 cents anyway

Isnt the whole point of the day one edition is that its only available day one?

The fact that they still had a few on BF speaks wonders but Id be pretty worried if Microsoft still had specifically day one editions available.

I live in HK and many of us had that fear when the PS4 release date for HK was first announced (because this kind of things happens a lot, baby formula, electronic gadgets, AAA video games, you name it, all bought in HK in bulk and shipped back to China, causing shortage in HK).

But we are now only two weeks away from the official launch (17th Dec) and no sign of any shortage whatsoever. Sony stores are still taking pre-orders, so are other electrical retailers. Either SCEAsia is well prepared and there is plenty of stock to go around, or demand isn't that high at all (though I'm sure it will do well).

I know a mom and pop store owner pretty well and he's also taking pre-orders for the PS4. When I went to pay for mine, he said I don't have to put down any payment (although other customers have to pay upfront) because he's sure there will be plenty of PS4 and he can guarantee I'll get mine. Just my personal observation, mind you.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/27/4776324/china-says-it-will-lift-ban-on-video-game-consoles

The 13-year ban on videogame consoles in Mainland China was only lifted earlier this year, and there are still a lot of restrictions on sales. I'm pretty sure SCE Japan/Asia knows what they are doing, and they aren't planning on a bunch of reverse importation to the Mainland considering.

No way PS4 will have 40m lead with XOne slightly ahead on US.

How much units do you guys think Xbox One sold in NA alone? I would guess around 700k but I'm not sure. So that would mean that ~400k units were sold in all other territories, right? These 'worldwide' figures are tricky.

If PS4 LTD is about 120million, then Xbox One will be about 80million. That is not bad at all.

Since E3, I don't think even hardcore Xbox fans will think the sales of Xbox One will be equal or close to PS4 unless suddenly Sony made huge mistake during the middle life of PS4. But it will not happen.

Well I think Sony is encountering GDDR5 supply problem.
And this won't get solved until 8Gb GDDR5 module comes out.

Have fun eating it yourself.

MS being 20k behind? Yeah right. Sony completed their worldwide launch to get to 2.1. MS's was completed. They didn't ship anywhere near another million for BF.

By the way, I work at a trucking company. The security briefings truckers called in to complete so they could pick up the loads were crazy leading to MS's launch with a company memo out warning about the work load from MS. Not so much after.

That's usually what happens and that is a good thing. I feel MS needs another kick in the rear-end to pick up the pace again..especially with more exclusives. It just seems they really let go of some interest in producing exclusives from 2009 forward with 360. They really need to pick up the pace and start getting some new killer IP's and even get Rare back into serious action. Why they left Rare on the back burner most of last generation baffles me to this day.

I would like to see a neck and neck race between the two consoles...the gamers benefit from this.

Gamasutra.
Do we think that Sony is finally done with the ridiculous platform combining in their quarterly reports? Would be nice to get proper shipment figures from the beginning.

Wow, I expected at least one million in Europe, the fact it sold more in NA is crazy, guess they priorititized shipping units to NA, there can't be any other possible explanation, I mean it sold 250k in the UK alone, there's no way it sold only 450k in the rest of Europe and Australia. PAL regions, UK aside, got way too few PS4s.

The Vita's sales are still a rounding error compared to the rest of the PlayStation family. So yes, I expect them to continue platform combining if for no other reason than to hide exact numbers for Vita.

I'm very confident at the notion that PS4 will be the highest selling next gen console. almost guaranteed to be honest. How much lead is up in the air ( expect 40m myself). Sony was able to match 360 sales after launching 18months later with $200 more box. Now, they are having the power, mindshare, price,timing...everything.

I think is more. 700K probably is almost the sales of day 1. With black friday, maybe 1 million.

PS4 will take the US 60:40.

Xbox One will sell a lifetime maximum of 40-50m globally, closer to the 40m mark. 25-30m in the US, 5-7m in the UK, 10-12m everywhere else.

The PS4 has a substantial lead in terms of mindshare everywhere in the world and it has an easier route to lower costs, which means a more aggressive pricing strategy can be called upon to boost sales if they start flagging.

It will basically be in the same position as PS3 in the US and UK, and a significantly worse position in the rest of the world than the 360 because they have a price disadvantage and don't have the time to market advantage.

Totally agree and quite mature thoughts. Much better than those posts expecting MS/X1 to be doomed~

With Wii U selling maybe 20 million only, is extremely unlikely that Xbox One sold less than 50 million.
