Log Horizon Episode 1-5

Definately up there with Gundam Build Fighters so far this season!

I can't really think of much wrong with it at all really. It's really been a pleasure to watch it so far!

Hunter x Hunter really is an example of a perfect shounen adaptation. The latest episode was wonderful, although I guess the material they're drawing from is great too.

This was a really sweet episode. I mean it begins as an incredibly awkward date made risque by the fact that Senjougahara is bat-shit insane and loves to push all of Araragi's buttons, but the end of it was really sweet:
She takes him to a cherished childhood location, has a brief but sincere moment of honesty in which she tells him she's afraid of getting physical because of childhood horrors and what that could do to her psychologically, and that shared trust brings them close enough to risk their first kiss.

Senjougahara is still batshit insane, but what did disappoint me was the lack of sexy Cat Hanekawa in this episode.

I just want you guys to know that, well...I hate you guys.

Except for you, KirbYayoi

Let Senjougahara have her moment. It's okay. You still have three whole episodes of Hanekawa's arc to go.

(...And that's just her first arc >.>)

An episode made up of almost nothing but the King and Komugi? What did I do to deserve such wonders?

Shit was crazy intense. I don't think it gets much better than this.

I'm sorry but if you make the Hollywood Nerdy Perfect Girl turn out to be a sexy cat woman (never mind how cat woman is so appealing that she's in Batman AND Spider-Man), you better realize you've hit solid gold.

I wouldn't say that. It just got weighed down by needless exposition that isn't even explained very well, especially in the early phases. The manga has been legit ever since the arc that the OADs covered, at least on the action side of things.

Well that's disappointing if it's the arc I think it is, which is by far the most important one so far. Sounds like Toei's biggest crime since they absolutely butchered Marineford in One Piece.

By the way, did you ever watch 33 or 34 (or whatever it was that I told you to watch)?

I don't see how one shit episode equals an entire arc,I haven't got round to it but I know it was only 2 episode ago episode 131 they had A listers on board for a nice looking ep.

Ridiculous exaggeration on them absolutely butchering marineford, I wasn't happy about a few minor alterations(white vs Blackbeard ) but overall they did really great job of the production side, most anime wish they had that much sakuga packed in one arc more then stuff like kill la kill will get during it's entire run.

This looks like absolutely butchering an arc to you...really

Princess Resurrection (OAD Series)
A Monster Mash for Any Time of Year

I've always been a little cautious of remakes, mostly because the problems the original series had usually weren't as problematic as I think they're made out to be, but I do welcome new takes on stories at the same time. And since this one had Tatsunoko Pro attached (who I've become rather fond of lately) and was directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi, whose style I appreciate, I gave it a look.

I understand the original series had some things holding it back. It was on TBS, and they've always had a bit of a strong hand at toning things down - ie. you'll almost never see a panty shot - so a lot of elements from the original manga were lost in the process. Madhouse did an okay job, but when compared to the OVA, the differences stand out that I enjoyed it - even if I have the Madhouse series to thank for getting me to know these characters in the first place.

The first is the same thing I saw with Yozakura Quartet - the character designs. They've become a little more exaggerated and cartoony, which also allows for a more fluid range of motion. All three episodes had these big, explosive set pieces that were breathtaking to watch, with the swordfight in the third OVA standing out. Also like Yozakura, the series is a little freer with its fanservice, and Reiri pantyshots were abound. As someone who enjoys the sexual side of anime, I have zero problems with this whatsoever.

The violence was also upped - so much blood flowing everywhere. Being bloody alone doesn't make something worthwhile, and while it's certainly more faithful than the life flame of the TV show, being faithful also isn't necessarily a plus. Sometimes things just have to be changed because of the medium. The blood was used sparingly enough (and even then, mostly in the first episode... and that montage in the third) that it achieved its intended effect without coming across as violence for the sake of violence.

The stories told were all fairly standard horror stuff, and the pacing was done well enough. The resolution of the third one felt a little quick, and there were a few characters I didn't remember from the first anime - a similar problem I expect to face if I ever watch the Negima! OVAs - but figuring out the context of who they were wasn't a problem.

As for the matter of the voice cast. Again, a good use of KitaEri. Riza's just the type of character she's really good with. Same for Hime and Saori Hayami. Having a male VA play Hiro does lend a different feel to the proceedings, making him feel a little less innocent than the first go-round. Reiri is about as un-Toyosaki a role as one would expect for her, but then I remember that Reiri's first VA was Mamiko Noto, who had a similar reputation before taking up the role. It probably changed my perception of the characters a little bit, colored by the roles today's hot VAs have compared to the ones from 2007, but I wouldn't say too much. The choices were good.

And those Keroberotte shorts attached. Just pure goofiness, with plenty of Tatsunoko gags thrown in. With the overall heavier tone of these OVAs, they made a good counterpoint. The small ways they intersected with the main stories was also fairly clever.

I would've loved to watch more of these. Three episodes is fine, and Tatsunoko/Kawaguchi has other things, so it's understandable. My only real wish is that they had an OP/ED to go with them. I love an anime for anime. Music gives me something to remember it by.

Final Thoughts: Well paced, well voiced, with some wonderfully fluid animation that creates a noticeably different feel from the first TV series. Some things may not make sense if you haven't been keeping up. Otherwise, it's got horror, comedy and cute girls, a good example of an anime-feeling anime.

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito: Episode 12

I'm just going to get this out of the way, Eve is pretty horrible don't you think? Causing lots of annoyence and heartache for all just because she is crap at her job. It took this long to think
"Hmm. I think I need to patch things up with everyone."

Gargantua took things pretty well all things considered. He just
did as Eve said and got a happy ending with a sunshine filter to replace that weird moon filter. It's done wonders for his castle!

Hazuki on the other hand...
really didn't. To the point that she would rather just kill Eve just to stay with her forever, that's actually pretty creepy. Luckily Hazuki couldn't bring herself to do it so it didn't end too badly for better or for worse.

This episode was very boring followed by very ugh. Meaning par for the course once again! The consistency of this show is quite impressive!

One more to go now and then it's over!

It was soooooooooo bad. I loved this arc and couldn't get enough of it in the manga but damn was I bored at the last episode. Toei truly does not give a shit.

Toriko's numbers being basically in free fall likely don't give Toei much incentive to give it any extra budget either.

The "moment" comes toward the end of 12. 13 is just the aftermath.

Why yes it does. I conveniently forgot about that bit!

I mean it's not every day that someone tells you
"You will give birth to me some day."
It was definately a strange choice of words to use there but of course as you say. Episode 13 is indeed the aftermath to that and it is there I can explore this quote fully.

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito: Episode 13 [Final Episode]
Alternate Title: My Older Sister Can't Be This Good At Cooking Me Breakfast.

Let's get down to brass tax here. This episode explains the entire reason why Hazuki is in love with Eve. Shocking right? It really is quite simple! I'm surprised I didn't catch on to it sooner actually!

Are you ready for this?

Pancakes.
That is the reason. How did I not notice this? It's been staring at me right in the face! I mean this episode is a prime example as to why they are the true reason to why they are in love!

What is the first thing we see in this episode?
Pancakes
. What did Lilith say would lead to the user to never have a happy life ever again?
Eve's Pancakes
. What did Hazuki cry over the morning after?
Pancakes
. What caused
Hazuki and Eve to kiss? Pancakes as Eve was obviously smelling of Pancake Batter at the time as she made so many of the things this episode!

Getting back to the quote from the previous episode which I'm guessing is the prime reason why this anime is on The List. Yep
"You will give birth to me some day."
is definately a weird thing to say to someone before you say goodbye, even weirder is when not only does
Eve later has a snog and who knows what else with Hazuki, then implants the idea that Hazuki will eventually give birth to her eventually. I'm sorry but with what just happened there, am I to expect some romance between mother and daughter? Is that what this show is trying to tell me? I sure as hell hope not! Although considering the sort of audience this show was catering for, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the idea they were trying to get across.

But wait there's more!

Eve made a video of herself at the end of the episode saying that Hazuki must remember her face because of course she'll give birth to her soon! The world will 'sparkle' for sure! Yep it will. I'm just thankful it'll never be shown on television.

Let's also not forget the other crime this episode had committed. This was shown, abeit in a much smaller scale in the previous episodes but this time I guess they had to save their biggest one for last. It is the fact that this episode has roughly 7 minutes of reused animation. Yep 1/3 of this episode was directly taken from Episode 1. No edits, no nothing. Although I'm not surprised considering this anime looked 10 years out of date as it started airing.

In conclusion this show is a huge metaphor. This show is
Eve's Pancakes
. The viewer will never have a happy life yet
apperently it's meant to taste delicious. When in fact this show leaves me with a terrible taste in my mouth.

There are most definitely some well animated and executed scenes in the arc. The problem is in my opinion, they are completely overshadowed by the abysmal pacing. There were a few episodes that adapted less than a full chapter, which were already shorter than usual because it was when Oda didn't do as many pages because of his daughter.

Wolf Children

I've had the blu-ray for a few weeks now, but never got around to watching it until this past weekend. Wow. Beautiful movie. Bittersweet, in the way that life often is. And the soundtrack was perfect.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel 10

Man, I love this series. Most underrated show this season. Bombless knows what's up. They need to make figures of the AI constructs, ASAP.

Also, I finally got caught up with Magi. I've really been enjoying it. Don't know how I missed this one for so long. I've heard people say it takes a dive once it gets beyond the manga stuff, but I haven't noticed any real dive in quality.

Viz has a survey one could take on both physical aspect to anime and things like sound and subtitles configuration etc.

Eh, why not. I've got a few minutes to kill.

The pacing for the Magi anime is looking pretty weird. In the first 12 eps of the second season, they will have covered ch118 to 148. 30 chapters. But they'll only have another 13 eps left to cover the rest of the entire arc.... which is.... 50 chapters long. Lol. I wonder if they're really just going to end the season on a cliffhanger at the peak of the war arc, and finish it off in a movie next year. That'll be hilarious.

Burned through volumes 3-4 of the Log Horizon LN series.

Fun times ahead I must say, even if one story thread did have me skimming it whenever it came along.

Some good world infodumps too for world geeks like me. Dunno how they will do that in the show.

WUT. "I am a [self-diagnosed] male. Because I have a Y-Chromosome. That I discovered after [some very ambiguous] checking into it." WUT. Why? Why are we including this? Why are you telling Juna this? Why are we having this conversation? What does an anime about forcing children to eat from shit-stained mountain hands have ANYTHING, I repeat, ANY FUCKING THING, to do with whatever complicated tangentially related real world problem that causes this?

A quick perusal of the internet suggests the affliction is Chimerism or Wrong Genetic Sex, in the which case she's physically a woman but has a Y Chromosome.

So she dumped the man she loved because of something on a genetic level? I fucking hate anime genetics, I really do. I fucking hate the way that in anime DNA has somehow become your heart or your soul (like in Coppelion where someone remarks "My DNA won't let me do it!") because it lacks all the poetry of the heart or soul and instead replaces it with science except it isn't accurate science at all so you might as well stick with the fucking poetry.

But for reals, while I am appreciative that there must be some stress involved with the people who have this affliction, and admit right here and now, with all of you as my witnesses that I am NOT an expert on gender identity stuff at ALL, I feel the need to repeat myself: WHAT IN THE FUCK. It is so typical of this writer to hilariously overplay something like this. "I was born female and my body is female and I definitely am female but I have a Y Chromosome so I'm going to use the term hermaphrodite, break up with a man I love, and join an eco-terrorist organization."

I don't even fucking know what I'm supposed to be learn here. Like even if I were to extrapolate what it was that the author wanted me to learn, I can't, because all the logic thingies in my head are just shouting "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK".

OH OF COURSE IT WAS MEDICINE. How did I even not suspect that medicine would be the cause? At least Juna is like "No you doofus you're pretty obviously a woman. Unless you drop trow and prove me otherwise, I'm considering this debate settled."

Oh I see Science is pure evil when it is used to heal your pregnant mother but when using it to justify your self-diagnosed illness you used to justify breaking up with your clingy envrioboyfriend, THEN it is okay. Fuck you Kawamori. Fuck you and your phallic mountain.

"Did you know so many drugs are being made?"
-What a real person would say: "Define drugs." or "NO DUH."
Juna "I HAD NO IDEA THAT SO MANY ITEMS OF A VAGUE AND NONDESCRIPT NATURE FELL INTO THIS NEBULOUS CATEGORY. YOU HAVE SURE TAUGHT ME ABOUT THE DANGERS THAT SCIENCE POSES."

We manufacture drugs because of "garbage"? I'm sorry, but wasn't there an episode about making easy answers just a little while ago? COULD YOU PRACTICE WHAT YOU FUCKING PREACH? Like for reals, hokey hollistic medication is totes fine, but science medicine is because of industrial waste! This is the most bizarre and unprovable bullshit I have ever heard. And I go to college with people who unironically go to FOX News for their politics.

COAL IS A NATURAL FUCKING RESOURCE NOT INDUSTRIAL WASTE WHAT IN THE FUCK DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR FUCKING Y CHROMOSOME FUUUUUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKUFKFUCKUFKUFCKFKFJFFKJCKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKKFKFKFKFFFF

"There really aren't any illnesses that require medicine." TELL THAT TO FUCKING POLIO AND MALARIA AND THE BUBONIC FUCKING PLAGUE. ALL THAT SHIT WOULD WRECK YOU BUT YOU WERE INNOCULATED SO YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH THAT SHIT WOULD RUIN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. FUCK YOU KAWAMORI. FUCK YOU FOR BEING A VICIOUS, VILLAINOUS BASTARD.

You know what? Fuck it. Sword Art Online might be as bad as Child Porn, but EARTH MAIDEN ARJUNA SLAUGHTERS INNOCENTS. That is what would happen if anybody believed this shit. That IS what happens when people believe this shit. You don't just moxy Malaria off. You don't just shrug off fucking Polio. You can't just eat natural whole wheat and hope the BLACK FUCKING PLAGUE AND THE ANGEL OF DEATH WILL PASS YOU BY.

Masterfull character develloppement ? Masterfull indeed.

The way the story handle the king emotion, pride, and principles is magnificent , and the anime nailed it ...

I wished I watched Arjuna before Corvo so I could read his posts. All I've caught was something about

.

Maybe tomorrow night when I don't have to wake up the next morning/day. Either that or Golden Laws.
