NPD Sales Results for November 2013 [Up3: Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, 3DS, Wii U]

Haha, probably.

I know mot people dislike his attitude, but I'll take a blunt person over a passive-aggressive attitude anytime. Besides, Derrick gives everyone a hard time. It's not like he only attacks one company and gives the ones he likes a pass. That's what usually annoys me.

True that :)

Posted on Twitter but I'll put it here as well.

My take: Gamers in Japan and the US don't want to see Mario for a long time. I'd say 5 years.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!

Real reason Nintendo doesn't sell?
Go through this thread and bathe in the schadenfreude.

I'm personally amazed anyone would want a launch Xbone Ps4 with that launch lineup.

enough salt

Back to awesome pc gaming.

Super Mario 3D World is the best selling 3D Mario, considering the hardware base.

Code:
Hardware LTD Mario 3D Sales Attach Ratio

GCN 2.120.000 350.000 6,06
Wii 6.000.000 1.120.000 5,36
Wii U ~ 1.550.000 215.000 7,21

It can't sell more given the bad hardware LTD.

That might be true, Smoker, but Nintendo needs to eat the losses and put the system at $250 like immediately. And Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart can't be delayed past the Spring anymore. That's just no way the system will be able to ride it out for the next 5 months without major titles.

For every AAA game they're producing, it's not coming back in sales numbers. Iwata needs to start considering some major changes or he's done at the end of this fiscal year. They got 4 months to get anywhere close to their projected numbers.....

Gap's probably going to widen even further in December.

Pretty shocking. Can N just ride this out for a couple years? Or what do they do?

Iwata and the Wii U are done

You are allowed to slap anyone who claims that Smash or Kart will change things because this won't happen, this console is the most unpopular mainstream console ever

We had good times Iwata

It's amazing. I can't even form words to express my simultaneous disbelief, sadness in Mario's performance, newfound excitement and curiosity towards everything that has to be getting flipped in NCL headquarters (400 years from now, man will exhume a Japanese tea table from deep within the soil on fucking Jupiter), and a unwavering sense of "Nintendo/Iwata fucked themselves" that's been building since "launch window".

I'm probably one of the most optimistic Nintendo types on GAF at current and this is pretty much the final blip on the EKG machine for Wii U (at least its demand as a game machine) and Iwata's continued presence.

How far off is Nintendo on their console sales prediction now?

This is also great. 9 million before March son. They won't even reach 5 at this rate.

The only positive news I can take as a fan of some Nintendo series (not Mario)...is that

A.) We shouldn't see Mario, outside of Kart, for a long time.
B.) Hopefully major changes and shake up at Nintendo.
It concerns me that they will try to rush Smash and cut stuff from Zelda like they did Wind Waker.

Yep.

245K (Dreamcast, November 1999)
192K (Dreamcast, November 2000)
259K (Dreamcast, November 2001)
Well... at least the Wii U gained ground on the Dreamcast this month.
So there's that.

It's still trailing the system that had a bullet put in its head after 2 years on the market.
But it's gaining ground.

The 'H' stands for hentai.
You know, everyone is talking about how bad the Wii U is doing, but the bigger alarm bells is how the 3DS/2DS is flat even with the huge software push and aggressive pricing strategy.

Nintendo has issues because its home console market is doing bad, but it also has its handheld consoles being under assault from smartphones and tablets and it is taking a HUGE toll on the console. In November, it SHOULD be selling gangbusters with a cheap price and Poemon X/Y, but it is not.

That should just be just as disconcerting, especially for the people who want Nintendo to have ONE console to support that is a plug in handheld console that can hook up to the TV.

The Wii-U numbers simply don't look promising, but I think they will be fine and get past this. Don't troll me, but I think they will be okay. I have to imagine they're making a profit on the hardware sold at the very least, right?

No, for some reason that resistive LCD lowres controller is making them lost money. Such a great idea.

I gotta laugh at Major Nelson

That guy´s spin on the sales is funny and what an embarrassment for Microsoft to have such a guy on their payroll.

100k X1
1m Ps4

But X1 is the fastest selling console in NA LOL :)

I'm sure he's referring to 101,000 per day../

stats are a funny thing, they can be interpreted correctly in different ways to prove numerous points

The Wii U was very poorly marketed out of the gate and poor sales from that initial period made 3rd parties abandon it. The console isn't a turd it's just that so many people that had a Wii didn't even understand it. I mean the E3 presser was all about the controller. People were even questioning if it was even a new console for awhile or whether it was just a controller add on for the Wii.

It was just marketing.

Even the people that do understand it don't want it either.

I've been reading this sentiment a lot lately on GAF, and no.

8 months of bad press do not even begin to wipe away the 8 years of utter dominance in the US console market that Microsoft has enjoyed over Sony. Painting the Xbone as any kind of underdog in the US is downright ludicrous.

Microsoft failed to sell a million units in the first week, a figure the PS4 reached in a single day. They cannot afford to consider this launch as a 'win'.

Dominating a previous gen has always been proven to be overrated when it comes time for the generation shift. PS2 dominated far more than the 360 ever did and it didn't save the PS3 from one of the most disastrous starts ever.

And we've never seen negative PR for a console like we did with the Bone. Everyone, including the general media, was ripping the console to shreds.

I don't think these numbers are good for MS if they want to win the system war worldwide, since they need to dominate the US to have any chance, but I do think, putting things in perspective, that they are a good start for MS to win the system war in America.

MS had zero chance of ever winning worldwide to begin with really.

The worst part is they really can't do much with the Wii U right now. Unless Nintendo can conjure a miraculous Wii Sports-caliber lightning in a bottle it's doomed to low-ball for the rest of it's console cycle with no third party support and only first party Nintendo games. It's in that awkward moment where it feels too premature to kill it but there's no point in actually developing things for it.

I really don't know how this console could fuck up so badly, I really don't. It pains me to say this cause I fucking love my Wii U and have gotten some of my best enjoyment in gaming out of it but this thing is practically on it's last legs after only a year into it's life cycle.

There is something they can do immediately. Bring to the market a pack without the tablet and drop the price by 100$. Do that at the same time that Mario Kart 8 comes out. I think a relaunch of the system under these conditions may be possible.

Second option is to scratch everything, make a new system and bring all the incoming games to that new system. I wouldn't change much the specs, but I would target the casual again with motion controls once again.

Unlike Sega (with the Dreamcast), Nintendo has money and not much debt; they will be fine.

Doesn't look good for them now; i don't think they'll catch up, but they have to stay profitable at the very least. The worst thing for them now is lack of third party support; they really have to work harder in that regard.

December's NPD will be no different to November, it will tell us how many consoles each company shipped to NA.

By all accounts, Sony started production a month earlier, they are producing as many consoles as MS, at the least. We also know a not insignificant portion of stock in mainland Europe is still on shelves.

What will be telling is worldwide sales.

Monday will be a full two weeks since Sony revealed their 2.1m number, indications are they can supply 100k consoles per day, that would be an additional 1.4m. Even with a high margin of era, it's fair to say Sony should have topped 3m by now with relative ease. I also understand there are some Asian launches this weekend too, therefore consoles will have been stockpiled for that.

The interesting question is whether Sony's next sales update will trumpet the 3m sales threshold being broken, or whether they think 4m is possible before the New Year.

PS4 had 2 full weeks for the month of November, while the X1 only had a week. Looks like MS has been shipping more X1's in the U.S the past couple of days as well so there will be a huge difference in the month of December NPD.

that source was apparently banned from gaf for pretending to be an insider. not reliable.

Wii U was heavily advertised this past month, and had a big name software launch. Vita hasn't been advertised this entire year in the US, and had Tearaway, a game that launched on the same day as XB1, Mario, and Zelda. It's not hard to assume it got its ass handed to it by Wii U.

I agree. Despite any glowing reviews of 3DW I simply cannot bring myself to buy it due to Mario oversaturation in the last few years.

So MS couldn't even beat Sony's numbers for launch day alone? Didn't they cream Sony in the US last generation? Gonna be a whipping when the WW numbers come out. Major kudos to Sony going head to head with MS in the US, and still supplying the rest of the world with PS4's.

If MS doesn't win December, things will get REALLY ugly. :)

So MS lost its home turf to Sony, got whipped elsewhere in the world, yet still spin the numbers to have a better average per day.

Good comedy

So MS lost the US... they are going to get creamed in the WW numbers. I can't wait to see the spin there.

This place will lose it when the PS4 releases its numbers at 1.3M plus... it will be glorious to see the tears of MS corporate

Confirmed that MS is losing in ALL territories now, with only the US being kind of close? Wow... spin that MS

Dat fanboyism.

I just deleted my comment and left the numbers, because people read too much into it. :p

I just wanted to post some comparison numbers to give a better comparison of the 3D Marios.
