Durante pls: Metal Gear Rising PC won't support higher resolutions than 1080p

Fixed pixel LCD displays look like shit when upscaling content which is output at a lower resolution than their native resolution, this has nothing to do with the size of the screen.

I have a Samsung LED display, though, not LCD. I'm pretty sure that makes up the difference. It looks great even though the games were designed for my smaller 24" PC monitor. I don't get the ire.

No. The TV has a native resolution of 1080p so it is displaying the pixels 1:1. LED TVs actually are LCD anyway, the backlighting differs from regular LCD TVs though.

A PC port is now shit if it doesn't allow for resolutions above 1080p? That's new.

Hyperbole is fun.

The PC market is full of different builds. Building a PC game means trying your best to cater to those different builds - ignoring something as fundamental as resolution shows a lack of understanding of PC gaming.

Not that big an issue.

1080P native out of the box is fine with me, as long as the game assets are higher resolution than the console versions. Modder will enable higher res's through downsampling and such anyway.

What is with all the console fanboi's trying to stink up this thread? Go back to Killzone or something.

1080P lock is unaccaptable for PC gamers.

I think people are being a bit harsh. This is Platinum's first time developing for PC and it's not like every western developer caters for 1440p+ resolutions, hell some games flat-out crash at that res. Like a lot of other games, this will probably reach that resolution with community help. This isn't unprecedented, it's pretty much in line with where the industry is right now.

To me it's not a huge deal, but it definitely should be an option.

As a PC gamer i find it completely acceptable.

But then again i am not one those hyperbole gamers that think 30fps is unplayable.

So if I load up Unreal '99 I can use any resolution I want.

I load up Metal Gear in the year of our lord 2013 and I can't use my native resolution or aspect ratio.

What has happened to science?

Finished building it today, $18,000 machine.

i7-4960X, 64GB DDR3 2400Mhz RAM, 4 x GTX780 Ti's, 4 x 512GB Samsung 840 EVOs in RAID, 4 x 3TB HDD, etc etc...

My home PC is more than capable(i7-3930k, 2 x MSI Lighting GTX680s) but hopefully there will be a mod in the future to make 4K doable.

That just means you have sub-par gear/low standards. It's not hyperbole to expect high performance when your rig is built around that concept.

I'm sure there was plenty of people who saw no problems with dark souls PC port because their computer was already connected to a tv/low res monitor and they only played with a controller.

this has nothing to do with standards for how things look. it has to do with games supporting native resolutions that have been used in pc gaming for years.

Still missing the point. People not being able to play the game at their native monitor resolution and aspect ratio? The vast majority of games have no trouble supporting this.

High standards guys!

I honestly don't understand why this is a thing. How much extra time could it possibly take to add more supported resolutions? It's literally trivial for most every 3D PC game released in the last ten years.

I feel like Japanese developers are just completely unfamiliar with the PC platform. PC monitors don't scale like TVs!

And besides that, PC games are also about forwards compatibility. Even if 1080p is the most common now, it won't be in the future. What's the harm in including additional support? It's not like with consoles where the devs have to make sure that it runs well.

Would you rather there not be a Rising PC port or it delayed because a select few like higher resolutions?

It's not about a select few, it's about the standards for the platform.

Polygonal PC games let you choose the resolution you want the game to run in. Period. That is the standard.

There are more powerful and way cheaper cards than Titan. and if PG guys think only a Titan can make you play at higher than 1080 then they are really clueless about PC.

For those with 1440P monitors, it is. The PC platform has always been open in the sense "you get back what you put in" but now these developers are trying to fucking consolize the PC platform by placing limits on games, that available hardware can easily destroy.

Also, even if your rig can't surpass the locks, PC gamers should not accept this garbage. It has been this kind of shitty apathy that has lead to crap such as horse armor and season's passes', etc...

But this doesn't make any sense... it's easier to implement proper support and there's no need for D3D9 injectors in this case either. At worst we just do a bunch of hex-edits on release.

There is absolutely 0 need for surveys, QA, and testing. You request the display list to D3D, you put those instead of your own "resolution" list, and you're done.

If what they say is right, they spent far more work on this than they actually needed to.

For serious. I'm definitely not running a Titan yet I've been using 1600p for years.

First they came for the people with spotty internet connections,
and I didn't speak out because I didn't have a spotty internet connection.

Then they came for the 120fps gamers,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a 120fps gamer.

Then they came for the over-1080p gamers,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a over-1080p gamer.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

I spit out my coffee at the first line.

There is also the issue of 'if corners are cut here, are corners cut else where?'

Exactly, say goodbye to ultra smooth 120hz.

It's almost becoming a trend when you have some developer be all ''we care about pc gaming, we got the 1080p and 60fps'' and in the end you know exactly how good the port is because the numbers they use will be what the framerate and resolution are capped at.
