Games you remember, names you don't

What was that cult PS3 shooter that GAF was obsessed with a few years ago? It was a third person shooter with you fighting waves of aliens.

I wouldn't say they're aliens but are you thinking of Deadly Premonition? Or perhaps you're thinking of an Earth Defense Force game? That one is closer to fighting waves of enemies and while they're giant ants and spiders I could see why someone would say you're fighting aliens?

I can't tell if you mean the main thing you're doing is fighting waves of aliens or if that was just one mode in it. Someone else might know exactly the game from that description but maybe try to think of a couple other details?

Wow, you got it: EDF 2017. That's with me getting two crucial details wrong:
  • 360 (instead of PS3)
  • Bugs (instead of aliens)

I'm impressed, thank you!

GAF I need help with one! Unfortunately, I can't remember much to go off of.

When I was little I absolutely loved some platformer game for either the 64 or PS1 (I'm almost certain it wasn't Dreamcast). It was kind of similar to Rayman I guess in art style.. It was pretty colorful. I remember a lot of the early levels go left to right, and then there's this one outside level that was kind of like a theme park that was basically a giant outside area where you had to find all these little guys to move on to the next part. Lots of high jumping and stuff during this section.

I want to say that one of the main ideas of the levels were to collect little guys similar to Sonic's animals, but I'm not certain.

I'll try to think of more. Would LOVE to remember what this game was called.

Edit: I think this thread has some sort of Voodoo.. Just remembered it - it's Mischief Makers!

Gaff! I request your assistance!

The other day, talking about old PC games, i remembered one i used to play on my elementary school PC lab. It was about a spaceship that had to jump between platforms using the spacebar. The game is what now would be a runner-kind of game of iOS. You just get as far as you can jumping from platform to platform with that kind of camera behind the ship.

This one has been killing me for as long as I remember.

It was a game on the Amstrad CPC 464 (im almost certain it was this model)

The games colour palette was pretty much red and black. You were a robed wizard and you were jumping up around trees in a forest. It was a side scroller.

I might be remembering things wrong (I was VERY young) but any ideas could help guide me to the right game.

sorcery ?
i remember playing this on a msx

I took a look, but I dont think any of those 2 are the one. Maybe the game was from SNK...but I do know this....when you did a special move, it would look alot like something out of Street Fighter Alpha or something along those lines...

Oh i think i'm looking for the same game !

I'm beginning to think it's one of the Hat trick Hero the first one maybe.

Anyone remember a game that was around about 2003 ish and you were a dinosaur and you just kinda roamed around this volcano like terrain?

Some MS-DOS game I can't remember very well. I almost want to say it was called either Mars Mission or Meteor Mission. The graphics were sorta pre-rendered but very pixelated. Looked good for the time, lol. I think you controlled this little astronaut dude and had to run around a planet avoiding meteors. I think the action took place on one screen. I recall having a good time with it... felt very arcade-like.

Any help remembering this would be appreciated. Looked it up and didn't really find anything.

Maybe Nanosaur Extreme?

Would you have a rough estimate on the year you played it in? Also, what was the view like, top down, isometric, maybe more third person/behind the character? When you say you avoid meteors, are you maybe restricted in your movement, like being able to only move left and right? Since you said it looked pre-rendered I guess the environment/planet was static, or was it maybe 3D (maybe being able to run around it similar to Super Stardust HD)?

EDIT: There is a game called Meteor Mission, but I'm guessing that's not it.

On a somewhat unrelated note, MobyGames is back to its old layout, yay! It was bought by Blue Flame Labs from GameFly and it seems they might finally take the website in the right direction. Here's hoping. :D

This one is grossly vague but its been bugging me.

It was a isometric RPG for PC, I think I first played it around ~2008 and I believe it was made sometime after 2004 due to the graphics. I didn't get too far into it, but I remember the start of the game involved wolves of sort, I think the main character had a pet wolf that was in the party and there was something involved about a railway track as a goal in the first town.

I believe at the time I read that it was based on a european novel series or something. It may possibly have timber or wood in the title but Im not 100% sure.

I also realize I may have described 90% of RPGs in this post though...

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I used to go over my friend's house and play some RC Racing style game on the Genesis. It had a top down view and (I think) it was a racing game. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

I've been thinking about this PC game from time o time. I think it was released 96-97-ish. I only played the demo of it. It's a 2D side scrolling shooter. In the demo stage you start off by running at the ground level, moving left to right, after a little while you go underground and start moving right to left. Eventually you somehow travel up and are fighting at the tree tops and you go back to moving left to right. There are bridges between the trees, bungalows and everything is just very green.

Sorry for this very vague description. I remember the sound of the gun very clearly but I don't know how to explain that.

Try these, not sure though - Abuse, Turrican II, Guimo, Spy Master.

Second game is very likely Little Computer People: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Computer_People

Edit: Don't know the first one but perhaps skim through these to see if you recognize the first game? http://www.lemonamiga.com/games/list.php?list_genre=Adventure&list_sub_genre=Graphics/Text

First one sounds like Alter Ego.

Alter Ego?

yup!!!
Little Computer People and Alter Ego. I guess I cheated, Alter Ego must've been on the commodore.

Wow, this will save me a lot of time wondering.
It also seems so obvious now.

Thanks!

Computer game from the 90's. Play as a kid with blonde hair and maybe a hat. Has on a red and white striped shirt. You're in a medieval type setting and I think it may have been raining. Your first attack is throwing these little pebbles that bounce a few times. The first enemy is a zombie, and the only other enemies I remember is a really strong green dragon

Sorry this is all I remember..

Cant remember much details since i played it when i was like 7, and since i was that age i don't think i made it through more than a tenth of the game.

It was a pc game. It was set in an snowy landscape and looked similar to the arctic. I think (and that's a big think) that it could have been set in Greenland. The first part consisted of you on some kind of wooden ship, perhaps viking, and in a large narrow ice cavern which was just large enough for the ship to pass through. then you move on to a snowy area which appeared to be in a canyon of some sort. i remember a bridge made of ice and... nothing else. that's pretty much all i can remember. I think it played from a first person perspective but was an adventure game very similar to the crystal key.

Sounds like Midwinter to me.

I can't for the love of me rememeber the name of a game that I used to play on my PC. My memories of it are not very good so bear with me. All I know is:
It was in 3D, third person view, you sailed around the ocean in a submarine collecting coins and bottlecaps that were almost as big as your submarine that you then used to upgrade your submarine.

Sounds like Sub Culture

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sub_Culture

To survive and prosper, you can engage in various mining or salvage operations, recovering enormous bottlecaps, cigarette butts, thorium crystals, and pearls, all of which are valuable commodities sellable in cities

Happy new year to my favorite thread on the entire forum.

Here's one: a 360 game that I only saw video of. It may have been an action game or a horror game, not sure. The footage was of some guys on a rooftop in what appeared to be a town with a western setting, maybe with a bit of goth mixed in. It also looked fairly subpar qualitywise, and I don't recall seeing any actual gameplay.

This is a shot in the dark, but Nier?

I have nothing to go on for this game I'm trying to remember except that

1. It was on the original game boy
2. It was a fighting game
3. I think maybe one of the characters could jump off the side of the screen and come back with the hard ass attack to dodge, kind of like Vega in SF2 but he would actually go completely off the screen.

And I'm not even all that sure about #3. :lol Super vague, but I know I'll remember it when I see it.

::edit::
Also, I think all the matches actually took place in a ring, like a boxing ring with ropes and such.

Fighting Simulator 2 in 1 , pretty sure of it. The move you describe could be performed with both buttons.

Arcade game that was a beat 'em up-RPG IIRC, with a spell that turned enemies into pigs. For a long time thought it was called Eye of the Beholder, but when I picked that game up on SNES, it was definitely not what I was looking for.

Probably Magic Sword by capcom, with a near flawless snes port.

There's one game who's name I don't remember that sticks out. It was a Sega CD game that was a shooter sidescroller with space crafts that kind of looked like an elaborate Gundam. Hard and often frantic, but pretty awesome game. Can not remember the name at all. :(

Could be anything, maybe Bari-Arm?

Ah there was another demo me and my cousins used to play the shit out of. It was on the PS1 and was a shoot em up. Took place in a dark maybe, futuristic city. This was many years ago so sorry for the extremely vague description.

Probably Future Cop LAPD

I want to say Darkwatch when you say horror and goth, but that was PS2/OG Xbox.
