Can you get the first chapter in English on PC or ps3?

I can see that being a problem. Hard to get new fans into the trilogy if the first chapter is not also going to be on steam.

Dice, who had worked with Steam before, helped connect XSEED to Valve for Ys Origin and Ys: The Oath in Felghana, which quickly became two of XSEED’s biggest sellers ever.

Wow...just wow.

Wait Steam is getting the SEQUEL also, I though it was just getting a port if the first trails o_O Day 1, the first was awesome on psp

I actually thought the same thing.

I thought Steam was only getting the prequel and the sequel wasn't coming. Great news.

I believe they have announced a Steam release of the first chapter for sometime early this year.

The dialogue is what makes it so great. Anyone who wants to play a JRPG to be totally immersed in a world, Trails is the perfect series for them.

Yeah, it's funny, I'm totally that kind of person, but I just couldn't believe how extreme TiTS was. I love text-heavy games in general, but it was just.. yeah. I can see how people would like it though, if they like the characters (I didn't; thought they were way too cartoony).

Have Xseed said anything about the PS3 versions of Trails?

There's some problems with those ports. As they're part of the PSP Remaster program they don't have any trophies, and the western SCE branches require trophies. Tom said they're looking into it, and if they can release them they likely will.

Estelle is a bit over the top sometimes, but I think the cast in general is very well rounded. One thing I love about the Trails series is that even when a character is a common trope, they are so well done, that you don't mind it at all. It's like they are showing you how they should be done.

If you love text heavy games, I think you should consider giving it another shot. Once this world gets its hooks into you, there is no turning back.

Well I will be buying the FC at least the very day it comes out. I have been wanting to play it after my brother ranted about how great the PSP version was a long time ago. Sadly I just can't stand playing on handhelds. Looks like those that bought Ys on Steam get a big thanks from me for letting me finally play Trails in the Sky. Thanks guys.

Who would of thought that is if this keeps up it will be the PC of all things that becomes the platform of choice for JRPGs in the west.

So excite. When is First Chapter coming to Steam? Has to be soon if the plan is to release Second Chapter by summer.

Carpe Fulgur are knights in shining armor imo. Fighting the good fight for scrubs like me who gave up on consoles but like jrpgs. I've been pretty close to buying the first game on vita multiple times but i'll gladly wait to support these diligent bros. Hats off to you guys but maybe it's time to hire some people.

All of those examples are action RPGs. None of them are particularly story-driven either. It will be interesting to see if a turn-based, story-heavy JRPG can achieve success too.
On the other hand we did have games like Torment that were very dialogue dependent and are cult classics on PC and I think one of the better performing games on GOG I believe, and for the other half the equation Xcom's been very popular on PC even today. There's really no guarantee there'd be significant overlap naturally, but I think when you have games with each of those components (very anime, turn based, story heavy) doing well on PC, and frequently at that, Trails in the Sky probably won't have too much difficulty. If anything I'd say PC's more friendly to turn based stuff than consoles, the lion's share of Xcom sales were on PC as I recall.

Maybe you would've needed to have played some Golden Sun before hand, preferably Dark Dawn. Not actually get through it, that'd just burn you out, but the first hour or two to give some appreciation for Falcom doing at least a GOOD job whereas Golden Sun was just WORDS WORDS WORDS with nothing to say and characters so completely unremarkable or outright unlikable you're left wondering why they ever gave a fuck about writing that much.

Well, I think some comments by others called those requirements into question, there's been VERY few potential test cases, and while it wasn't sold individually we did get Castle of Illusion's Genesis version without trophies. Combine that with how SCEA historically loosens up as the generation comes to a close (or so it usually looks when games like Eternal Eyes and Chulip come over) and I think there's a sliver of a chance of it working out. Still, I'm not particularly optimistic and more than ready to settle with PC as the "HD" version.

I really can't wait, anyone that likes JRPG's HAS to know about this game, can't wait to replay FC on PC.

If they publish the game digitally on PSN for the PSP, then it will be available to those who have a Vita as well?

If that is the case, will the item in the shop be easily visible to those with the Vita? Or is it tucked away in a sub menu?

I wonder how Last Remnant sold on steam? Didn't really care for it, but it's probably the most recent AAAish turn based JRPG on the store.

It will be available to download on the vita just like the first game was.

And probably tucked away in the PSP menu like the first is. Never seen them feature a PSP game on the front page.
Probably would be under new releases actually, I think even some games just freshly made available on Vita but had been on the store forever showed up under new releases. And if it takes off on Steam that's where the lion's share of sales will be anyway.

I'm interested to get this game. Was quite amazed by the large number of script this game had. But the most important things, are the story interesting? I don't really want to play a game with tons of boring story. What do gaf think about this game?

Ohh how does the story pans out? Is it a standard linear experience or more similar to visual novel where your choices alter the stories?

This is my actual question, will such a game be easily accessible and visible to PS Vita owners?

On Steam, for example, new releases are featured on the banner, new releases section on the front page, and, generally, show up in the top sellers as well. So the game is quickly visible to potential buyers.

I liked the story, it's evocative of the best of Lunar and Grandia but with better world building, and it sounds like it only gets better from here albeit less light hearted it seems. The start can be slow though, the characters will carry it then more than the story itself.

And it's a standard linear experience, there are some choices to make with short term consequences (long term if you count not getting the best carry over good for the sequel), but nothing lasting story-wise except maybe acknowledgement you completed certain quests and given how long the series has gone for now it'd be kind of a mess to keep tracking that stuff. It's why games like ME stopped at about 3 entries, and even that was a pain and didn't fully fulfill its promises.

The Last Remnant has done very well on Steam, too.

Hmm, the first chapter is on PSP right? Found it on Amazon. I do have a PSP, but I want a PC version because of bigger screen. I primary play RPGs for story, so I am pretty hyped. Can't believe I haven't heard of this series.

And this part of why Steam may give the series a second wind and establish it outside of Japan. The other part being that there's probably a lot of potential players who refuse to touch a PSP/Vita which may be a problem when we get to Zero and Ao.

Let's worry about that when we get there. XD

Personally, I think the Vita ports are very good news for Western gamers. Niche publishers are really starting to embrace the platform and it'll still be viable for quite a while. I think a bigger worry is whether of not we'll get The 3rd on PSP.

I really think Steam will finally let this series get the exposure it deserves.

It better, because I'm going to be triple-dipping on this goddamn game by the time I get the Steam version. (And that's before sending out gift copies, and not counting two copies of SC.)

WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED ME TO DO XSEED

This is true, but I think Trails is honestly much closer to mainstream interest than a nifty historical curio like Ys I.

Can you get the first chapter in English on PC or ps3?

It's on PSN for PSP/Vita and the Steam release is coming in the next couple months.

There's some problems with those ports. As they're part of the PSP Remaster program they don't have any trophies, and the western SCE branches require trophies. Tom said they're looking into it, and if they can release them they likely will.

I'm confident Sony must be relaxing some of those restrictions now (as they did with PS1 and PS2 after their successors were released) but I wouldn't really blame XSEED if pushing on that wasn't a practical use of their time.

This is my actual question, will such a game be easily accessible and visible to PS Vita owners?

It's impossible to say for sure in advance, but IIRC we've seen a few late PSP releases like Corpse Party get some decent exposure on Vita PSN.

I think it could be worth it actually if Zero and Ao get PS3 ports, then the whole series will be on that platform and so they can try to build up the base there by the time we reach Sen no Kiseki and its sequel. Heck, just going from 3rd to Sen may justify it, even if people need to take a detour on Vita to play Zero/Ao.

OF COURSE that doesn't take into account the times for localization, and at that point we'd probably go further if Falcom decided PS4 ports were worth investing in.

I don't think any JRPG released on Steam has not been successful.

OTOH, there haven't been that many of them released (yet).

Also, Septerra Core and Anachronox didn't light up any charts when they get released last year, did it? Not exactly a JRPG, I know. Still relevant IMO.

The very reason why I didn't bother pressing on in Trails' plodding progression was exactly because of the lack of a sequel localisation. Hearing that it's finally coming makes me want to want to give it another shot and double-dip on Steam. I hope it does well and that more Japanese publishers take note.

I'm all for more JRPG's one Steam.

Never played the first Trails so I'm looking forward to it. 2014 is going to be the tits.

True, but I don't think you can blame that on a lack of success of previously released games.

I am almost certain that Ghostlight is doing another port (or I guess "having another port done" would be more accurate).

My most anticipated steam games, gonna buy day 0, preoder, whatever that I can do to make it happen.
Also so glad we are getting the second game too, I can't even say how glad.
And thanks Xseed for working on this.

So even Agarest was a success? I almost got it this Steam sale, but I saw pretty bad reviews.
