Games you remember, names you don't

Man. I don't know why this just popped in my head but I remembered this thread and though it might be worth a shot for old times sake.

This game was an PS1 RPG I rented as a kid. I only rented it once but I gazed at it each time I was at that rental store. The cover I want to say had a warrior and a small pink sidekick (I believe). Graphics were 3D anime chibi style if memory serves correct and ut was colorful. Ring any bells? I remember it starting in like an open area then directly into cave that I never got to finish...real surface stuff I know but just wondered if anyone was familiar with it.

I wish I could do a recap of this thread one day.
Many requests were answered but received no confirmation, few (very few) were buried and left unanswered, and some gaf wasn't able to answer.

I've honestly thought of doing this, but that's a lot of posts to sort through and can't ever find the time.

80s DOS game. Artillery game. You have a tank, you shoot at the other tank on an arcing trajectory. Terrain was highly deformable; you'd take out circular chunks of land corresponding to the blast radius of your shots.

Graphics were quite primitive; definitely EGA, and maybe even CGA-compatible.

That's all I remember.

Maybe Scorched Earth (1991) But the link mentions Tank Wars which was 80's.

So, there's this old game I've played as a little kid that I can't remember. I was too young at the time.

What I remember was the platform: Phantomsystem (a NES clone) and that it was some type of platformer/exploration hybrid. The guy could get a gun at some point. I remember dying on a endless pit everytime.

The gun was above some temple/construction... I don't remember very well what it was...

Never found the game. =/

Recent one! trailer only, last year, first person, the world seems normal enough but then it's a weird nightmare, sci-fi HR giger thing and like a word table and probing machine or something.

Platformer/exploration combined with the dying makes me think it might be Super Pitfall?

DOS based game I played on my Tandy in the 80s. On my 16 color RGB screen, most stuff was purple-ish. It was a modern day detective story set in LA or maybe San Fran. You drive. to various locations to investigate a crime. Locations involved a house and an airport for sure, maybe also an office, some others. You could wire tap phones, talk to people (I think), review arrest records. Was way too hard for my 8-10 year old self.

OK, here's one - and I'll be amazed if someone gets it. But this is NeoGAF, and I should know better than to underestimate the community here.

Almost a decade ago, I signed up for the super computer club at school where we built computers that ran linux. When we finished, each computer had a multiplayer capture the flag tank game installed. It was 3D, but certainly not a looker. We played the shit out of it though. I remember going home to play Mercenaries on PS2 at the time. It had just released, if that helps?

Anybody know what the heck that was? Man, I'd love to find a way to play it again today...

Sounds like The Scoop to me, or maybe JB Harold Murder Club, or Police Quest.

Slayer of Combofiends
Saw a game as a kid (got me into RPG's), probably for the SNES, and it was this blue haired character fighting a bunch of wolf enemies (ala FF) and I have played FF 1-6 and have never seen these same wolves with the blue haired protagonist, it has always alluded me sadly...

I literally just had two people separately ask me about a game that they played a while ago, and I practically went mad trying to figure out what it was.

It was Tron 2.0. It's by the guys who later did F.E.A.R.,so, ya know, it's kind of amazing. I love the art style. It does have a few problems with difficulty and things, but overall it's a great shooter. Definitely something people should go back and play if they haven't.

Going to try this again, I still cant find the game, its a shoot em up, vertical, it was on arcades early 90s or late 80s I guess, first boss was big zeppelin, another boss was a B2 bomber, thats all I remember.

Please help, I think it got a NES release.

It plays quite well, also there is a fan made patch that gives it widescreen support and other different features.

I want to say Strikers 1945, that was vertical and had a zeppelin and WW2-era planes. But that was mid 90s and definitely didn't have an NES release.

During late 90s/early 00s Monolith was the best FPS developer of all time. Better than iD, better than Valve, better than everyone.

I'm guessing Breath of Fire. There aren't any other SNES (or Genesis, for that matter) RPGs with blue-haired protagonists, at least not released outside Japan.

No real idea but the first possible thing that came up with a quick search is BZFlag: http://bzflag.org/

Capture the Flag 3D tank game that's ugly and runs on Linux. And free. So it seems like something easily available to install on school computers.

I'm going to see if I can get my hands on some sort of copy of it. I heard about that patch, and that makes me excited.

Very nice of him to also put in 16:10 as well as 9, since that's the aspect ratio of my monitor.

Well...there is bungie. But yes Monolith was very good. They're still not horrible at all, imo. I wish they would return to shooters.

I wish there was a way it could get released on Steam, but being a Disney owned property... ugh. :(

A arcade fighting game that had like off the wall looking fighters.

I remember a guy with a laser sword

I think there was a caveman looking guy.

And you were able to cut off limbs during the match so you would be fighting with only one arm.

It would have to be almost 20 years ago

I remember playing this game on the PC or Mac in the late 90's but it was definitely older than that. I never owned it but I remember it was top down, dungeon/room exploration, very basic graphics, different classes to choose from to fight and it was action focused. I know it's not much to go with.

How old are these games? This sounds a lot like the Port Royale series. Maybe Age of Pirates, but that's newer.

If they're old games, then Sid Meier's Pirates or Uncharted Waters would be the obvious choices.

I'm not even sure if there are any other pirate-themed series on PC.

Edit: there's also the Age of Sail series, but those are (iirc) completely combat-focused.

This game is for PlayStation 2 and its survival horror (with moving camera like in silent hill).
You start at the ship in the middle of the ocean. There is a big storm and the whole ship is rocking left and right.

Anybody knows the name?

Task Maker fits that description, though it was originally made in the early 90s.

Edit:

Did it look like this:

Alright I have another one..

It's a side scrolling flying shooter

Now I dont remember what the main character looked like but all the enemies were kinda wacky characters. I think one boss was like teeth and lips

I played it at my cousins a few times so not exactly sure of the console. But it would have to be either Sega, 32X, or Sega CD. It might be on the PS1 not sure if they had that console yet

Could be one of the Parodius games.

Edit: This boss?
