Still on the fence about this one. On the one hand, I really kind of love the MC, and her friendship with Kaoru (which may as well come with its own built-in yuri goggles) is nice too. But on the other hand, I'm not really feeling the overall setup.
The whole "big military organisation fighting evil invading alien monsters" thing just seems so deeply generic, and I feel like the military organisation angle (complete with a fairly large existing cast of superpowered soldiers) is inevitably going to push individual characterisation to the sidelines. I can't really see how a civilian like Kaoru is going to remain relevant, either, if the focus of the show is going to be on Shio fighting aliens as a member of DOGOO.
But I guess the show has been enjoyable enough so far, so I'll stick with it for now and see how it goes. Next episode looks like it'll cover Shio's training, which will probably be quite fun.

Well the twist near the end was contrived as fuck but damn if I didn't enjoy it. I could watch this show forever.
Edit: Also, they forgot to take into account that Enceladus has less gravity than Earth so surely they shouldn't have been walking around as normal.

Hummingbird is a pretty good site for list management, although it's still a work in progress. MAL is the established player but it's stagnant and run by database weeanazis.
Question re: Space Dandy.
Is it less funny than other anime comedies? I mean, it's not particularly funny IMO - too many overplayed jokes (the show is very careful to repeat jokes three times like a formula, except they're generally not that funny in the first place so it doesn't really work) etc. - but I don't actually see it as being any worse than many other anime comedies which are particularly popular. It's filled with the usual SHOUTING AND FLAILING humour and dumbass characters doing dumbass things that characterise most of anime humour to me.
Personally speaking the glorious animation makes it worth watching, but I was just wondering whether for those people who actually like anime comedy it was particularly poor in some respect.
(Tonari no Seki-kun works for me as a silly fun show, however, because even though there's all the SHOUTING AND STATING THE OBVIOUS dialogue which isn't funny the visual component of what Seki is doing is entertaining. Also it's only five minutes long!)

This show is such happiness. All of the characters are so cute and fun. Except for the bullying girls and the monsters, of course. I could just keep watching this all the time. Ah, this just puts such a smile on my face. I love this show. If only episodes were longer than 4 minutes.

This is such a great show, I'm glad it exists.
It has more of a humorous atmosphere than anything else, in that it's not laugh out loud funny but more of a goofball time. Comedies are also almost always divisive. The comedy is fine for what it is and what it's attempting to do. It hasn't overplayed the stupidity of Dandy which is my personal grate with a lot of Western comedies.

I have points to raise in response to this:
1 - Space Dandy isn't just any old anime comedy, it's the torch-bearer for an entire medium, the last light in the endless darkness, a work destined to become a new genre. The standards it will be judged on are, therefore, quite different.
2 - I can certainly agree with you in the sense that I don't find many anime comedies to be particularly funny, but there are some genuinely well written comedies out there like Gintama where there's like actual jokes constructed out of setups and punchlines. So, it's probably about average as far as anime comedies go, for me at least.
I'm just sick of Western Comedies relying on being crass. I mean you can make a crass joke and have it work some times, but maaaaaaaan. Can we stop treating shit as if it were the funniest substance on Earth?

Space Dandy is certainly less funny than Love Lab or something, but I wouldn't say it's any worse than typical anime humour. I sort of forgot it was originally presented as a comedy when I watched it today. It just doesn't engage on that level, although I still enjoyed the episode. I smiled at a few of the sequences, but it earned that through presentation and tone rather than it's writing I think.

Space Dandy doesn't have to be funny for it to entertain me. So while it does mostly fail at the overt comedy it attempts, it hasn't really disappointed me.
Plus it will change up scriptwriters and directors all the time, so you can hop in and out of the show depending on the episode. That's the advantage!

Oh my goodness, this episode has plot. I didn't expect this show to take a dark turn.
I'm sure that Reiko will be all right. But that was unexpected for something that seems so Slice of Life.
Now I have to wait for a new episode. Oh, well, this show is so great that I'm going to go ahead and rewatch all 4 episodes of this again. This show makes me happy.

Earlier DTL wrote that this episode was better than the last and i raised an eyebrow because i knew from the preview that it would be a flashback episode... but i didn't comment because i thought that it would answer plenty of my questions about this arc.
It did ... but damn i felt let down untill i reached the preview for next week
So this episode it's revelations time and we have the story of lovushka and how she fit in the whole scheme of things
The episode in it self was fine , the revelations openned plenty of possibilities BUT
BUT
ENIGMA is a giant MORON , i would have made a 2 post rant about how everything is freaking stupid IF the whole cast in his entirety hadn't called him out on his bullshit without hesitation. They did.
I'm actually very pissed , the previous vilains in the phi - brain saga had this ambition , this spark , those motives , but ENIGMA ? i cannot take this guy seriously anymore.
Everyone called him on his bullshit so i'm not mad , but what a waste of time for such a shitty reveal.
Anime is still cool and the puzzles very nice and i hope that there is more than this later so we can salvage this character , but at this point he needs to die in the most stupid way possible.

So As expected , enigma was lying all along about the covenant of makata jin , that was obvious ..he even admitted him ... but his reasons for doing so are just sooo stupid. Lovushka was making a facade because she was losing to jin , you knew that ... yet you pushed her to challenge the fool puzzles , YOURSELF dammit ... You saw how she was getting worse to the point she had to go to the hospital , yet you pushed her to challenge more fool puzzles ... Are you a gigantic idiot .. You're her childhood friend, you shared the same goal ..YOU KNEW she had a alternate route ( and safer route ) to reach her dream BUT YOU IGNORED IT !

I'm unsure as whever lovushka death was confirmed or not , seeing as even if she was in a fool puzzle , there is no blood , and no corpse showed.. as for jinhe better stop going into "dark" mode, lol ... This will probably be what ratsel true plan was...and i hope ep 16 will deliver on this aspect.

The censorship feel lazy as well .
The peeing sub-plot device need to stop .. you've already used it during 2 episodes
I'm not even sure what was the point of the supermarket scene
The dream scene was badly explained , it relied only on the dynamic between the sister and the ghost and that isn't much to go on.
It's disapointing at times and no so great at others. Still watching but will drop if nothing happens .
