We still don't have Sony's numbers from last month either. Seems to be a trend. We know they're selling great, so one has to wonder just what exactly are Sony being so cautious about? My take is the PS4 isn't outselling the $100 more expensive system as much as they would like.to see in the market Sony themselves said was the most crucial. I take it they were neck and neck in November, and are probably neck and neck yet again in December, unless, of course, they aren't. We don't know until we have hard numbers. I take it we won't be seeing those numbers until the PS4 has a really nice and sizeable win one of these months, something that's bound to happen with the price discrepancy.

Senjutsu, you were just balking at spin in another topic. Putting aside the cognitive dissonance every post of yours entails, why would Sony be embarrassed or "cautious" to admit they have sold literally every system that has hit store shelves? They already said they still have the lead in the USA between November and December, so they released their version of events. And we have actual proof of the insane demand and lack of stock everywhere, so..

Edit: And we have their exact number of units sold in November, so, you're not even right with your spintastic version of events. As usual. Does it matter whether Sony themselves released the number if we have the number anyway?

More than Xbox One and PC put together, purely due to install base.

They not even showed 360 version, and marketing must be completely focused to Xbox One version.

I think will sell better on 360, but maybe relatively poorly considering the install base.

They never show NPD numbers. If I remember right Sony is the reason there is the combined top ten overall now and no HW sales figures.

What? Yes we do. PS4 sold 1138K last month.

So the XBone sold 1,8mil in US. The PS4 sold 1,1mil in December didn't it? Or was that total?

Because the PS4 is >1,8mil in the US, let's say 2mil... That makes 1,2mil for the XBone in EU and around 2,2mil for the PS4.

Same reason why Vita's results are combined with PSP in their quarterly reports.

They're used to not so great (or terrible) numbers so it's safer and easier just to hide everything when possible.

Where did you read this?

"Hardware sales of the Wii U were also positive with December 2013 marking its highest month for unit sales month so far," NPD analyst Liam Callahan noted.

Highest month for unit sales: December 2012 - 463K

Therefore:

Wii U sales: >463K

Dude, PS4s were selling out within hours if not minutes of getting in stock for the entire month of December in the US. XBone outselling it is due to MS being able to ship more XBones to the US than Sony could PS4s, nothing more.

(I wasn't being entirely serious.)

But while we're on the subject, I do actually think Sony's launch lineup was anemic and is probably a pretty good reason for this line from Microsoft's PR:

During the month of December, Xbox One held six of the top 10 spots on the new generation console game title list: “Battlefield 4,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” “Madden NFL 25” and “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).

I think Sony should be fairly concerned about losing momentum in software sales to Microsoft. A month or two after launch is when people start wondering what else they should buy and for the Xbox One, Microsoft has been very aggressive and shoving their launch lineup in people's faces. Sony really hasn't and with no announced Driveclub date, they're looking more and more like they either don't care or don't know what to do on that front.

I'm sure they'll be fine, but I'd like them to be more active about believing that, too.

What is Gamestop going to do, stop selling the games? They pretty much don't have a choice if they want to remain a viable business doing the only thing it is that they do essentially :p

They need gamestop to sell the consoles. Who wants to be the one at the back of the store?

So I guess having units in the stores doesn't mean failure after all. MS leading in all multiplatform software sales except for PS4 with Fifa, damn!

THE KING IS BACK BABY! THE TALES OF ITS DEATH WERE GREATLY EXAGGERATED! NOTHING STOPS THE TRAIN!

The PR doesn't say that, just that 6 of the Top 10 are on XBO, of which three of those are also on PS4. In fact you can deduce that the remaining 4 in the Top 10 are probably the other PS4/Wii U exclusives.

You can look at the ordering on the public list to see which version sold more for which games. Bone appears to be dudebroing it up again.

I fear they meant "so far in 2013". Which would mean 220k+

Gamestop needs the systems as well. Honestly, I think it's about these companies being a bit greedy. If they simply came together and said "this is how it is going to be", Gamestop would have to accept it or face irrelevance. It's going to happen eventually as digital games grow in importance, so they can either accept the trend or lose out in the end.

But they won't do that because they want to make that extra money, consumers be damned.

Honestly surprised to see XB1 selling that many with all the 180 fiasco and lesser 3rd party ports and 720p gate. Kudos to MS for selling it as an all-in-one box to get the casuals to buy in it too.

Would like to see numbers for all Sony consoles but not sure we will?

He got it from the OP. It's OVER 460k.

It's in the OP of this very thread.
NPD threads move fast but keep checking the first page. Nirolak is updating the OP regularly, which has the relevant link from Shacknews.

I feel like stupid now.

At least it is not a bad number for Wii U.

What's MGS4's LTD, like 5 million or something? I'm expecting Titanfall to do that in one month. And like I said, Ground Zero isn't even MGS5.

5 million in a month for a new mp-only IP would be shocking, even with Respawn's pedigree and the game's histrionic hype.

Hmm. I expected 450k'ish for Wii U, so I'm pretty close I guess. Still isn't very good, but after all those sub 40k months Nintendo will take their wins.
