NPD Sales Results for December 2013 [Up2: Xbox One/360 HW, 3DS top system of year]

The system will have sold-through around 750K in the US for the quarter and around 450K in Japan. So 1.2M in two major territories.

Indications from the PAL thread are that the situation in Europe continues to be abysmal, but being generous we'll say that it managed to somehow sell-through the same amount as the US. So that's about 2M.

With the state of sales, retailers aren't going to be ordering in significant amounts, so I doubt there's much in the channel, so I'd expect the Q3 shipment to be in the realm of 2.5M, with a FYTD of about 3M.
A rapid collapse in Japan gives some indication of an impending soft Q4 as well.

That isn't anything to be "delighted" about, when your forecast is 9M.

I think we all realise Iwata's 9M forecast was beyond insane, esp with a holiday line up that consisted of a single Mario game...

What would you estimate WiiU Worldwide lifetime sales are currently sitting at ?.

Why do people still act surprised at the Vita's sales? I love the thing and have been a huge Vita fan since launch, but those numbers don't surprise me in any way, shape, or form. The thing is dead besides Japanese games and indie titles. It doesn't help that Sony treats it as dead, too, with their first party output.

So far for Xbone...

Hardware: 1.8m
Software: 5.2m (2.9 ratio)
Retail: 4.8m
Digital: 0.4m

Mistakes?

Digital numbers are hard to find. But based on Microsoft's 'go digital' incentives (instant switching) , I would think that they are higher than 0.4m.

Vita = Dead because SCEA wished it to die.
They are ultimately and entirely at fault.
The average Plus subscriber probably has a dozen or more Vita games they could play for free right now on top of remote play capability for their PS4s and they simply don't care.

The amount of money SCEA invests in the Vita is $0. We should be thankful retailers continue to stock it.

I'm impressed that he replied to the tweet at all. Hell, I don't care if he tries to qualify the 'yes', I appreciate that he answered a question that didn't put his company on top. Hell, I wish we got more PR like that. Definitely a step up from Nelson.

The dude has had to put up with nothing but bad news for the past year(granted, it was all completely their fault), so I imagine he was chomping(or is it champing, lol) at the bit to spout out what he thinks is positives for him.

A platform without any advertisement by SCEA selling bad? Who would've though?

They're putting everything on PS4. Vita is ignored in north america by SCEA. SCEE and SCEJ at lesat try to push the hardware a bit.

I hope they at least help localise some games because from them, I don't expect anything anymore.

Well the 2.9 attach ratio for retail + digital come from MS, no? If so then the digital sales are 400-500k.

it's LTD, you would sure hope Wii U managed at least ~200k to stay ahead for one more month
Yeah, didn't see the LTD part at first.

Although in theory they could be pretty close - depending on how close the XB1 and PS4 are in December, and how close the Wii U is to 460K.

2.5M wouldn't just be bad in the context of the batshit crazy forecast. It's just bad period.

You can combine that guestimation with the current known shipments of 3.5M to get that I expect globally shipments to be in the realm of about 6M LTD.

Just dance is playable without the camera though, but with move controllers, not sure about the cost of Move in US, here in UK, you can pick them up very cheaply. Though your right about the camera potentially having an effect on that one.

Just dance is more fun when you don't have to hold anything while you're grooving. That and 4 people can play without the need of 4 controllers.

I still have no idea what they're playing at with that.

Reality has to have set in by now. A massive restructuring is imminent. At this pace they'll actually be lucky to hit 12 million units in five years. Their firm resolve on this forecast is just an amazing train wreck in super slow motion.

There's no firm resolve on the forecast. And nobody inside Nintendo is expecting 9M. They've known since like May that they weren't going to hit 9M. But things were so far off what they initially set the target at, that they had no idea where the number would finally end up. So instead of revising the target with random guesses every single quarter, they just stuck with the initial number until after the holiday season was over, which would be when they would have a firm grip on what the FY sales would actually be. Now that the holiday period is over, they'll give a revised forecast. There just wasn't any point in taking wild stabs in the dark, because they didn't know themselves how the holidays were going to play out. But nobody inside Nintendo has actually been expecting 9M for ages now.

Even for a dead system, it's doing abysmal.

Guess we can put the plug in the "PS4 will help Vita idea". No one knows or cares about the system. I had someone see the Vita option in the PS4 menu and wonder what the hell that even was.

There really is no comparison for the Vita. It did much better than the Virtual Boy and NGage but so much worse than everything else

I'm expecting X1 to win US handily over the next several months.

Au contraire, the early adopters (more likely than not) have already gotten their XBO's (hence the systems availability), it is now that the price difference will make a difference between the two next gen systems (unless Sony continues to have supply issues).

Port GT6 to PS4 now Sony, should have never been a PS3 only title to begin with.

GT6 is the necessary sacrifice. PD does not need to waste time or effort putting it on PS4. What they need to/probably are already, is getting GT7 ready to go for 2015.

Okay, if you really insist
So if we count Dead Rising as a 3rd party game published by MS (which it is), MS sold more first party exclusive and 3rd party software in the US.

Looks like Dead Rising will easily meet the 2 million projected sales ww.

Except then you have to count Ryse as a third party game too, so PS4 first party would be greater than Xbox One first party.

This would require Sony properly supporting it in the first place...

I'd say Sony as a whole is giving it great support (mostly Sony Japan but we did get Killzone and Tearaway from Sony Europe), it's Sony America that doesn't give a shit about the system

This is US LTD right?

Also, wow at Vita. Looks like PS4 didn't even help the system just like what most(?) were expecting. Who knows VitaTV could be the one helping it :p

If it mirrors Japan, I suppose an additional 2K a week would be some help.

Debatable. The system gets so few games from Sony, even from Sony Japan. And what it does get are mostly pretty small titles with few exceptions.
Then we have marketing...
