Hope they do a good job. way too many games throw the word "Lovecraftian" around without understanding that it means more than tentacles and cosmic space monsters.

Dark Corners is fantastic and the escape from innsmouth is one of my favourite sequences in any game. So tense and scary, i love it.

However, Frogwares don't make action games so i suspect this will be more cerebral than visceral. Not that i care, as long as it's decent i'm getting this whatever genre it is.

I agree

From memory Frogwares have been around for years and produced the Sherlock Holmes games and a few other adventure games. They aren't astounding games but i haven't heard anything bad about them for a good long while.

For this kind of game i'd say they were a good solid choice but i may be mistaken. Regardless, i'm in anyway! Love me some cthulu even if HP was a douche.

What did HP ever do to you?

But who will be eaten first?

I actually really enjoyed the original on the good old Xbox back in the day. Great atmosphere and a really different style of game.

Fingers crossed!

Great news, love the Sherlock games from Frogwares, can't wait for their take on the Cthulhu mythos.

It will be more of what the lore dictates than an action game. Even though Dark Corners was a great game, Frogwares have experience with the mythology and are fantastic at creating atmosphere and working in a framework that will definitely work for a Lovecraftian game. Really, adventure games are the perfect genre for Lovecraft. Minimal pure action, lots of story and exploration, uncovering.

I for one am fucking stoked. Frogwares has never disappointed me. Their Sherlock Holmes games just get better and better. Jack The Ripper, The Testament, and the upcoming Crimes & Punishment...They have one of the best investigative gameplay systems as well, and it's a challenge as it should be.

Fantastic news, this made my day and those screenshots are very promising.

Loved this game to bits. Dark Corners was also very good despite some problems and bugs.

GODDAMN, I want it! And console releases, too?

The Lovecraft mythos is such a great setting for adventure/horror games.

Lovecraft = Automatic buy.

This could wind up as anything from the original Call of Cthulhu game to the Loath Nolder games, considering the developer.

I'm surprised that so many enjoyed Dark Corners of the Earth. Always thought I was one of very few who consider it a masterpiece.

I still own the other game on Xbox... it was so good! I also have the PC version but its broke badly.
I played through the Steam version a few years ago, it worked fine beginning to end.

I'll bet itll be better...

But I love adventure games, and that seems to be the way it's headed.

Yeah I think it'll be good, but I don't like adventure games so I don't think I'll enjoy it as much :/.

But that's just a preference thing. I'm sure it will be good.

Still waiting for someone to dethrone Eternal Darkness as the best Lovecraft game adaptation/pastiche. (CoC:DCotE was nowhere near as good.) Hopefully, this will be a contender.

IIRC in SotC you could easily get in an unwinnable state, it made the game more difficult than necessary.

Yeah, there was a dead end (or maybe even multiple ones) that would completely ruin your playthrough but those kinds of experiments were a bit more prevalent back then.

I really hope it is something similar to Call of Cthulu Dark Corners of the Earth, that game was pretty great, I'd love it to get an HD re-release.

DCotE was good until you hit the shooting part, the it becomes a poor man stealth/shooter with some great moments here and there. A shame, the beginning is phenomenal.

There are way too many "Lovecraft-inspired" floating around the PC gaming world these days.

But I am all about this. Ain't nothing wrong with getting some proper Cthulhu up in here.

I wonder why DCOTE wasn't more popular. It had a creepy atmosphere and some pretty good gameplay. You spent the first few hours just exploring if I remember correctly.

Sounds like you were lucky. The game is riddled with game breaking bugs, I think there's a few workarounds, but they mostly require you starting again from the very beginning...
