I'm not familiar with the VA outside of knowing that people loved him as the count in Gankutsuou. At any rate, he's fantastic as Wolf.

Nakata has to be my most favorite male seiyuu. Super distinct. He was also Van Grants in Tales of the Abyss, Kirei Kotomine in Fate/ Series, Margulis in Xenosaga. etc etc.

Tonari no Seki-kun OVA

Neko-chaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

To honour Seki-kun I watched this at work! And it was ridiculously funny as usual. Best show of the season.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - 13

This is my new favorite character. What a bad ass.

The Wolf is awesome.

Anohana The Movie

iS24WnxGIMved.jpg

Bottom line, this movie was a giant MESS and just like the TV series, so much WASTED POTENTIAL. I finally figured out for myself what it was about Anohana that gravitated me towards it. I really wanted to like TV, but that didn't pan out, so I really hoped the Movie would fix it. Unfortunately, it's was really poor recap for what they did recycle. On the bright side, the new additional prologue and epilogue scenes are actually decent. The TV series would have benefited from them, although it wouldn't have saved it still. Won't lie though, still teared up a bit @ the tree scene when "Secret Base" played, because "Secret Base" is so good.

Anywho, while I felt it was a really bad movie in terms of even trying to be stand alone, somehow my friend was able to follow it. That said, I wouldn't go blindly throwing this at someone, yet still I might still get the Bluray for this. . . D:

Does this show even know what it wants to be? Well, I* dropped other shows for this so I am kind of stuck with it.

Is that how anime works? We're only on episode two.

Noragami - Episode 3

This was pretty fun. There's some good humor with regards to showing the gap between Yato and a "real" god, but the real kicker was watching the punchline of the gag they set up at the start of the first episode. Poor Yato. T_T

I think this show is doing a surprisingly good job of feeling respectable and sublime, especially considering how the source material doesn't really possess the same level of class and atmosphere. Something about the presentation and the characters really work in the anime. It's a nice change that the bratty looking character isn't actually an annoying brat too. Good show.

He's also Nyanta-san in Log Horizon. I laughed my ass off when I heard the jolly chef/swashbuckler as a badass
interdimensional space submarine
captain.

It would be nice if this show could decide on being one show instead of at least three kind of poorly mashed together. The police procedural and the grand magical action are not playing well with each other.

We have Ace Attorney, so no reason this can't work.. I like it personally.

The titles mostly. SOme shows that were discussed and marketed for years under an english name suddenly changed to an obscure japanese name the company that created it didnt even use for the sake of "purity"

Given I mostly know shows by their romanised japanese name and not dopey US names thats never bothered me. The big weird name thing I noticed is I can't add Robotech as Robotech. I have to add it as Macross which is pretty hilarious given Robotech is not just Macross dubbed.

I don't think the show is either of those things though. It seems fairly obvious to me what the show is - it's a quirky action series about a girl who is a magician lawyer, and because it's anime-as-fuck instead of just helping clients with their cases legally, they also have to use their magic powers to kick ass.

It might be dumb, but it's certainly not confusing!

I think the mix is at least giving the show an identity of its own. I don't really want it to be a complete procedural because when the show begins to unravel any kind of analysis it's pretty much the most remedial interpretation of law imaginable. At the same time action scenes alone aren't capable of carrying any anime.

Wizard Barristers is pretty much exactly what it sells itself to be, from both its premise and its director. I guess I'm just not sure what it is you were expecting.

I don't find the show confusing, I just find this show thus far to be less then the sum of its parts.

I suppose that is a point in its favor.

But in that case, it knows what it wants to be, you just don't like what it is! I don't think the show has an identity crisis so much as it's just filled with so much of the 90s Action OVA Stupid (TM) that you either dig that sort of stuff, or it just feels super dumb, or both.

I will say though, goddamn the sound mix on the show is horrendous! Probably the worst I've heard in ages.

That may be the case but I also reserve the right to not be utterly shocked if this WizBar ends up dropping one aspect or the other. Of course I am sure if Umetsu has his way, the orgy would have already happened.

Thank to the one that recommended GTO manga, so great! It´s sad many of those episodes are not in anime form but I had a great time with it.

Think I will add Wizard Barrister in the rotation as I can see it in CR.

But of course Filipino guy HAS to stand out. lol

The time had been when a few kicks from Boxer's hoofs would have smashed the van to matchwood. But alas! His strength had left him; and in a few moments the sound of drumming hoofs grew fainter and died away.
lol
That idol glue factory. :(

I suppose now I understand what Japanese otaku feel when their favourite idols "retire". lol

Wizard Barristers 2

I don't think I can be bothered with this show. I like the general premise and some of the ideas, but all the execution is just leaving me cold. There's no sense of drama or interesting twists to the actual court proceedings, the action segments just feel kind of messy and out of place, and it's difficult to care about anything that happens because all the character designs are all so unappealing both visually and in terms of characterisation.

I might give this another shot if I hear positive impressions about future episodes, but for the moment, consider it DROPPED. (Yay, one less Sunday show for me!)

Kingdom 2 Episode 18

Hilarious start to the episode and largely all the way through. Lian Po's scene of getting everyone fired up by giving them hugs was amazing, and best way to really wish for safety as well. Luu Hu being so happy about it, and then Jiang Yan falling over once being blown in the ear, and Bai Guixi being immensely fired up was the most memorable thing in awhile.

Hyped for the Lun Hu v Wang Ben showdown next episode, dont know who will win as I like both characters. Though Lun Hu seemed better for assassinations so maybe he is no good in head to heads?

Exit from the Sketckbook is a great song for the ED.

It's all over ;_; no more episodes unless some rich Japanese investor decides to blow his money for the sake of art to fund a sequel

Well that was a really interesting finale. The use of
flashbacks was normal even maybe expected, but then flash forwarding to future events in the manga?
I think it really worked out at the end, none of the scenes made sense, but I welcome it just for the novelty of the idea.

So this was good. Really good. I think it will be quite some time until I watch another anime that experiments with its visuals or direction like this. The rotoscoping with Studio Pablo's backgrounds gave such a dark and bleak atmosphere that is very hard to replicate. I also really liked the colouring in the show, it's very noticeable and not washed up like a lot of anime these days. As for rotoscoping, my only problem with it was sometimes the facial expressions were too puzzling and difficult to make out what emotion the characters were making. Not sure if it's an issue of technology or budget.

On another note, time to check out Mushishi in the next couple of weeks. I read the manga long time ago so hopefully I remember nothing about it and go fresh into the anime.

I agree with that, and it was probably an issue of schedule+talent. Well, maybe not so much talent, but it probably wasn't easy for the animators who never had done something like this to figure out how the characters should look on certain poses, movements and expressions. I'm sure if you gave them a bunch of shows to get a better feel for the technique the results would become substantially better.

I actually agree.

Just saw the 2 episodes and ... hmmm. I don't get what's happening.
First off, things that kinda get on my nerves...
1- MC dresses like a Moe-fanatic ... and it's never explained why this Canadian girl feels this is appropriate. She keeps calling them "battle clothes" but is this a sub thing? Does she mean "work clothes"? All you really gotta do is say that since she's Canadian she didn't grow up in Japan and got it stuck in her head that that's how girls her age should dress...in Japan.
2- People point out her Moe-wear when for the most part it's way tamer than wtf they're running around in. Why are these "lawyers" walking around like this? Half of theem look like clowns ...
3- What CAN Magic people do exactly? I mean, we only know 3 rules ... one's common sense (don't kill people with Majics), one's self-deference but one out-laws an entire branch/ field of magic (no making ...mechs?).
4- What's with the conflict here? I mean, that was a very simple open and shut case for self defense ... but Japan has such a hate hard-on for Magic that just thinking that maybe you can kinda-maybe see some made up story showing that the dude was in the gang means you can put him to death? So that's what we should look forward to?

All in all ... i think I would prefer seeing normal awesome police lady track down "Wuds" and use that conflict as a vehicle to learn more about the world they live in and why things are this way.

Because they just didn't give a shit.

So I just watched all of Frozen and felt entertained the entire way through. I don't remember the last time I saw an anime movie that I didn't start clock-watching half way through. Could be that 90% of the anime movies I've seen are shitty Gundam or List ones, but I dunno. I mean I really enjoyed Wolf Children but even that one I felt super impatient with.

Yep, that was leagues better than Episode 2. Good to see this show back on form.
Eh, it has a discernible "form" after 3 episodes?

Well, with Robotech I kinda get it. Robotech isn't just Macross dubbed, it's Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada dubbed to more or less fit each other. I guess a site could say "Robotech: First Generation, Second Generation and Third Generation" as localized names for Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada but then even that's wrong. Macross was 36 episodes Robotech is 85. Southern Cross was 23 episodes. Not 23 episodes out of 85 but 23. 1 to 23, not the 37th to 59th episodes of something else. Same with Mospeada. The minute they all got mashed together as a single entity they're no longer the same thing as their originals.

Edit: Also, Robotech the First Generation is way better than Macross.

I assume the success of Idolmaster and Love Live made this a no-brainer. Is this built around a real group though?

No, its basically Yamakan aping the Amachan concept (not sure if he thought this up before Amachan but I somehow doubt it) of the life of an idol in the Earthquake area. I haven't seen it but I'm going to TAKE A WILD GUESS and say that them being idols contribute to recovery efforts because they make the children and old people happy and keep morale up.

Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Nausica and Castle in the Sky. I think I saw Kiki's Delivery service once, a long, long, long time ago. Ghibli movies are great, yes, and they'd fall into the category of rare anime movies that I don't feel the violent urge to leave part way through.

It's funny, cuz I enjoy anime, but thus far I really don't like anime movies.

Ohhh, it actually addresses the earthquake? I suppose that at least makes it potentially more interesting than it has any right to be.
