I'm just not convinced this is actual unaltered gameplay. Too much AA compared to what I've seen.
The built I've played also hat some sort of dynamic resolution thing going on, everything in the distance looked like a pixel mess.
It just didn't look very good or impressive at all.

The trailers are straight "bullshot" material - I think we can at least agree on that. I know I might be jumping to conclusions, but I think it's best to be skeptical towards the material they put out.

Lol, they've released gameplay from newer builds since then, along with release notes. One of them was how they completely overhauled the AA system. It's practically jaggy free now. The build you played was pre-alpha. Let that sink in for a bit. Pre-alpha….as in, not even alpha or beta.

Think what you will, but you can't argue with direct feed gameplay videos.

Said it before I´ll just say it again.

People who expect to be blown away by this game visually will be very, very disappointed once they play it.
I know there have been improvements since I played it at gamescom, but even back then the trailers looked great while the game did not.
you've tried the game at a trade show than 6 months ago, still do not know when the game will come out and then there is still time to improve it, all the material shown in recent months has made a lot of people to think again, and let's not forget that the developers of the game are the Evolution Studios

What, the stuff I linked you to? Maybe that's because it's a newer build than the one you played at Gamescom (which, unless I'm remembering wrong, was supposed to be an old build in of itself)?

And eh, I think all these trailers are stuff pulled from replays (hence why this video talks about different camera angles, etc.). Obviously the game's not gonna look like this in the actual gameplay, but I wouldn't call it 'fake'. Practically every driving game that gets trailers like this also use heavily post-processed replay footage.

Stupid question incoming:

How is the structure of this game? Is it only MP based, or are there regular championships and various races to progress in through a SP?

Doesn't even look that post-processed to me.. As that trailer has this kind of realistic grey/dull light they love. But to me, we've seen most impressive footage before, ingame. The games shines better when there are nice light sources, imo.

don't know if this has been mentioned (probably has) but why is the reflection not moving on the yellow car close up? reflection makes it seem like the car is stationary, but the environment says otherwise.

I think it might be a glitch. There's another part of the video that shows the same shot with the reflection moving.

Edit: Yep. At 2.05 with the same camera on the same car you see the reflection moving. Weird.

So it looks like these clips are actually quite old. Doing a bit of hunting for the "assets" the clip boasts about, I found this page. If you go to download the assets on the right-hand side and select the fourth option, it takes you to a Dropbox-esque location where you can download a whole bunch of crap (including the fonts!).

You'll see on that page a link to download a video called "DRIVECLUB_Brand_Guidelines.mp4", dated September 13th 2013:

That's the video posted in the OP. So whilst it's new footage in that we haven't seen it before, it's not *new* new.

Thanks for the info. I wonder then if this is how they expect the game to look in its final form, or if they actually have arrived there by this point. Because the builds around September with the gifs they were releasing at the time looked great, but they still didn't look quite as good as what we're seeing in this video

Being picky here, but this isn't how DOF works. The foreground and background both come into focus at once in this GIF.

Look at the dash of the car, it goes out of focus when the background comes into focus.

Yeah I see that. But it's also in focus at the same time as the car 30 ft. away is in focus. Again, it's a nitpick from viewing the thing a bunch. Something felt off about it. I love the things they're trying visually, especially in this genre.

Only at the point while the focus point in the scene is shifting though. That happens on a camera when you are shifting focus from near to far and vice versa.

I know, but the focus "line" would not be 30 ft. long in this lighting so at no point should both the dash and the car in the distance both be in focus.

Probably a visual trick they are using that causes some unwanted effects. You do realise this isn't real life? It's similar to objects/clouds fading in and out of the rear window in Forza5.

Can we just stop using the world 'visceral' already? Can the people who use it even tell the definition without looking in a dictionary?

Also, fuck desaturation (its use, not the word)

In case anyone bases arguments or discussions on the footage being newer than anything we've seen since GamesCom 2013... it's not. So the video in the OP is almost certainly not in-game (at least, not real time. Well, possibly, but then the game must be looking exponentially better now).

Edit: And the guy who sent it in even posted as much on his Twitter... 10 hours ago:
BLc2Grt.png

I assume the B-roll he's talking about is the videos in the same folder... but weighing in at 2gb a pop, I wasn't going to download them. But other people can have a go and .gif away, I guess!

Edit #2: While I'm at it, did we know about this (16/01/14)?
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia just announced with a press release that the PS4 Exclusive Driveclub has finally been officially delayed in Japan as well due to “various reasons.”

Until today no change was made to the initially announced release date of February 22nd, sparking hope of a similar launch date for the west as well. A couple days ago Design Director Paul Rustchynsky told us that the Japanese date could indeed be inaccurate.

Today’s announcement confirms that Driveclub won’t make it as a launch game for the PS4 in Japan, and from now on the release date has been officially changed to “undecided.” It will be disclosed down the line with a formal press release as soon as possible.

I'd like to download that broll video but that download site is slow as fuck for me.

1) No, you can't be 100% sure, unless you're working on the game or are involved in the marketing of said game.

2) The small clips posted to Facebook rival the fidelity seen in the video. Whether or not those clips came from a replay mode is undetermined as far as I know, but they most certainly are from the actual game.

I am sure because a lot of footage in this clip comes from the February reveal from last year. The rest pretty much looks exactly like it aesthetically. The actual game today doesn't look as desaturated as that, and it also doesn't abuse DOF during gameplay like its shown here.

So I'm fairly certain about what I said, but let's revise that number to 95% anyway. :p

I meant, how do you know what camera/lens type they're trying to represent that you can say this is not possible?

Because no camera/lens type would cause a phenomenon where the foreground and background magically appear in focus at the same time and also end up rack focused with the focus ring at the same point. Only messimg with your aperture would affect this which is not what's happening here.

I've gone through it frame by frame and that isn't happening. As soon as the background starts to come in to focus, the cockpit is going out of focus.

those engine sounds--assuming they're not faked--elevate the entire experience.

it is time for you to commit sudoku

Kaz is now secretly wishing he had allowed DRIVECLUB to use the GT brand.

Motorstorm franchise never took off because it had a bad start, sure it sold 3-4 million but a lot of those gamers never came back to the sequels because Motorstorm was pretty bare bones and didn't even have splitscreen right off the bad. You only get 1 shot establishing a new IP so it's for the best that Sony decided to delay DC. The game needs all its bells and whistles if it wants to make a good first impression.

You are probably right. I'm on my phone now so it's tough to see the detail.
