So everyone on my facebook feed is bitching about Good Kid MAAD City losing to Macklemore. So here's my 2 cents. Who fucking cares. The Grammys (like the Oscars and basically every other award show) are silly. They are neither an indication of artistic merit or long term importance. They represent nothing more than mainstream popularity or throwing a bone to aging artists who long ago were past their primes.
Kendrick Lamar fans should take solace in the fact that GKMC is one of the best rap albums of all time. Dare I say it might be better than Illmatic (so that would make it the greatest rap album of all time). People will be listening to it for years to come, and it will age as well as Low End Theory or Liquid Swords.

God I came in here last night to ask if Chicago had played already. The only reply I got informed me that "yes, they sucked." I just watched the performance and it was great, these guys can still cook at 70.

Mad respect for Daft Punk getting real recognition but I guess taking the David Guetta route really paid off. Seems like its the only way to get in the big american spotlight. Here is to hoping armin stays off of it but I doubt thats gonna happen since its the direction hes going

As someone who bought Homework on the day it came out, I'm absolutely thrilled for Daft Punk.. but honestly, the album is far from the best thing that was released during its period and not the best album even nominated (far from it). But then you look at Mumford who won for Babel and that album was shit in comparison to the first one so it could be worse. I think a rap & hip/hop nominee should have won the last two years from the albums that made the cut.
I think it's amazing that they've had such a renaissance late in their career. They really owe a lot to Kanye West -- he completely revitalized them from a commercial perspective.

Seeing NIN/QOTSA/Dave Grohl was badass.
Highlight of the show for me. I totally overlooked Lindsey Buckingham at the time though. I must have been blinded by Trent, Josh and Dave's awesomeness.
The real kicker of it is they probably wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for that get lucky track. That's just my opinion tho of it all and the way the voters probably viewed it.
They woulda been better with out Thickey McDouchebag singing with them.

Their first grammy performance definitely made them better known for Americans but imo what skyrocketed their popularity was the Alive 2007 tour. They did that before doing Stronger with Kanye (well they had done half of the tour already).

As for the performance it was decent since nothing can compare to her SB halftime show performance last year.
Lol yes. Thing is, Grammys are the most predictable award show. They rarely stray too far from the path. Just go look at all the past noms/winners. So why people get mad when someone loses is beyond me. You should expect it.

I'm sure we all have our one artist that we can't be objective about because the testosterone makes us dumb.
Chicago is pretty crazy when you think about it. What other bands could loose musicians/vocalists as ridiculously talented as Terry Kath and Peter Cetera and still have a singer as good as Robert Lamm to keep going.
I'm actually perplexed that people love RAM as much as they do. I mean there are elements of the album that are really great. The production is some of the best I've heard in a long time. There is some really great tracks. But overall, the album feels indulgent and doesn't really come together. It feels disjointed and meandering.
Honestly, I think it's one of their weaker albums overall. I can't deny the great aspects of it. But people really think it's a masterpiece front to back. *shrugs* Opinions etc.

Yeah this is what I don't get. This happens every year. So why was Trent or anyone surprised that they did this? I actually am a HUGE fan of Nine Inch Nails. But I've found a lot of Trent's recent actions to be questionable. After going on long a tirade against labels, he signs up with a major one for his first album back? Okay. I don't care. I get that big labels are able to distribute at a larger level, and promote the album (and I think that's something he learned the hard way too). But then you also know the downside of signing to a label.
Conversely, he should have known the downside to playing the Grammys in the final slot. I just don't get how someone is so in tune to how the industry work (and again, he's someone that has railed on the Grammy's for a long time), would openly sign on to play for them, and then get angry when his set gets cut short.
I don't get it.

daft punk stunk. weak on the vocals front (even from stevie wonder surprisingly) and just a very boring ass low key performance.
The only part I'm not too found of is having The Game of Love as the second track and Within after Giorgio By Moroder. Everything else I enjoyed. I expect they are going to do some pretty cool stuff afterwards with this album and the audio recordings from the music sessions. There's a lot of unused sound bits. But I don't know, to me this was less about RAM winning the awards, and more about Daft Punk in general winning. You can tell from the hug in the end that it meant a lot to them. I like to see people like that win.
I didn't care for her performance either but daaammn she looked good.
I haven't heard that Katy Perry song before but her performance was nice. I've had "Moments in Love" by Art of Noise stuck in my head ever since. They sound real similar to me.

She's currently the most talented popgirl out there. She's been in this industry for 17 years and still owns the game. The voice, the looks, she can perform and has a very strong stage presence. She has everything, The other girls look so basic compared to her.
Give decent arguments why she sucks next time, otherwise get out with that crap. I'm not having it
She's beautiful, but that's one nasty, cheap-looking mess of a dress that looks like it was sewn in 30 minutes by a high school student for her prom.
