The one thing I'm most surprised about is the presence of Hataraku Maou-sama in both lists. Was that actually good? All I ever heard in reference to it was ChihoEmiChihoEmiChihoEmiChihoEmiChihoEmiChihoEmiChihoEmi so I assumed it was just, y'know, one of those shows.

fuck chiho

and yeah it was pretty good. if there was a section for best faces of 2013 Maou would win.

My 2 top anime were ranked #24 and #30. Who knew my tastes were so niche? I'm not surprised Space Brothers fell down being in its second year. but Rozen maiden deserved better.

It's charm only last for a few episodes for me. As a whole it's nothing special.

It was an amusing comedy but when there's basically two girls both fighting for the lead, anything else about the show gets drowned out.

I'm genuinely quite annoyed that I've watched barely anything on that list - not to say that there were other things besides. It's the realization that I've watched nothing, beyond Yamato (which I loved), and Kill la Kill (which I loathe)

Hot damn, and I thought HxH was too low in the main results. AnimeGAF should be ashamed of itself!

My #1 show is ranked 81, and I was the only one to vote for it. ;_;

It had a lot of good reaction shots and it seemed to be a sort of loving send-up of classic fantasy anime. It was nice enough.

I enjoyed it, though it lost a bit of steam in the second half. And I was as annoyed by the Emi v Chiho bullshit as anyone.

Not at present. Vertical is publishing the manga, but that's practically porn.

I seem to recall Vertical mentioning something along the lines if the From the New World manga does well that might convince them to license the novel. They also had this tumblr post about the issue, but it was deleted
I am currently in the process of reading it and our Editor-in-Chief who is our novels guru has enjoyed the book. But length of that book, it is three thick thick volumes, makes it a little scary for us as we tend to avoid serialized novel releases (we prefer one-shots).

Please purchase Crimson Labyrinth (Mr Kishi’s other novel) or repost/like this post to let him know there is an audience for the title. Ideally we’d need 4.5K to make this work. Oh and one more thing. US, UK and Canada only. We don’t sell novels to the EU.

Maturity, bitches.
Do you think we could at least have a top5 or top10 for movies/ovas? There are 20 for series! Or were there not enough votes? :(
Well originally I just did Top 10 and Top 3 since that was in line with how many people could vote for, but I know Dresden loved Love Lab so much he'd be distraught not to see it in the OP so I extended it to top 20. But since you asked nicely I added some runners up for movies/ovas.

It was alright, but there were much better comedies during the year. However I wanted to be neutral with the thread so yes I included a quote claiming it was funniest of the year. I'm also surprised by SNAFU. Don't remember people talking about it (or I was just obvious to it all)

I've meant to ask -- when exactly did your Akari obsession become your "thing", again? After you watched the first or second season of YrYr?

SNAFU was a seriously great show. I wrote it off because it looks so much like Haganai at first glance, which is not a good thing. And you had nobody here talking about it on top of that. Definitely my most pleasant surprise of 2013 and I'm glad there were some other folks who enjoyed it too.

Nozomi and Kurumi get their own joint finisher? Nah, doesn't count, they didn't even give it a name.

...Though it did arguably have more unique animation than Kurumi's own second finisher, sooooo...

The characters were just really damn good, even in Emi's case despite that she's often a rather standard busybody tsundere who keeps getting in Maou's case (for good reasons, but still)

The tsun backfires at times, which is something that I really like to see

We should contact the official Star Blazers licensors and try to get "Voted #1 Anime of 2013 by the NeoGAF.com community" on the back of the box of the Yamato 2199 releases :lol

Noragami 5

The comedy in the beginning was good but never expected this episode to go "dark" literally. The soundtrack acompanying the fight was so good and fitting.

Another solid episode. Miyukichi next episode :D

Space Dandy 5

I'm a sucker for traditional Watanabe episodes and for father-daughter relationship episodes in games or shows "(Last of Us and Adventure Time's Simon and Marcy episodes), so this one hit me in the spot they knew they could easily win me over. And it did. Space Dandy transformed into the clown rogue with a heart and the little girl was surprisingly not annoying or tsundere (Which I thought she'd be by the preview). The story's change of pace from just crazy comedy to a lighthearted drama adventure about seeing the road was amazing. The chemistry between Dandy and the girl was amazing, with his jester attitude and her attempts at being grown up. I like the silly Space Dandy episodes and all, but I wouldn't mind more of these to give us a glimpse of Dandy's human side because as of right now his character is just Johnny Bravo in space. I'd like more Watanabe-like episodes and I really hope we see more serious episodes. And more episodes with this little girl since
they made it seem like she might eventually come back. They made her too detailed of a character to just have her as a one off. At least I hope so

Anybody know how many episodes Space Dandy is scheduled for? I've been searching everywhere and I can't find it. I'd rather it be 20+ so we can have more serious episodes.

As to the animeGAF list, I'm glad Yamato took top spots in both of them, but I still refuse to admit KlK is anything but top 10 material. Not top 3.

Anyway Hataraku Maou-sama is a biggest surprise considering it's novel title and it's synopsis that anybody can write it off. But the show completely taken people by surprise with it's humour because it isn't those cliched trope humor that countless of anime/manga/LN have done to death.

Shame HxH didn't come out in the top ten here

If Mana's so broken, how come she couldn't win AOTY, huh? You anti-Mana-folk are self-defeating.

WELL you see, being broken isn't always something that benefits you to the point that you're too good. Broken also means something that needs to be fixed. In this case, she broke off her connection with AnimeGAF, and therefore it was too difficult for her to actually become number 1
and she's not Bel

So can we do that matching list/affinity thing like in GoTY thread? Or its too much hassle for nothing? This poll have much less audience for one.

I haven't watched a ton of anime this year for a variety of reasons, I'd like to thank BGBW, MadP, and everyone who voted for helping to clue me into what shows I should check out as I try to get back into things. :)

Can we get also non-animeGAF filtered results? From my quick calculations AoT seems to be easily number one.

Here's a quick comparison/subtraction using the two lists. There were a couple shows in the overall top 20 that didn't appear in AnimeGAF's top 20, so I couldn't calculate how many non-AnimeGAF points they received.

01. Attack on Titan - 324
02. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - 268
03. Kill la Kill - 260
04. Hunter x Hunter - 239
05. From the New World - 202
06. The Eccentric Family - 187
07. Hataraku Maou-sama - 168
08. The Flowers of Evil - 164
09. Suisei no Gargantia - 124

13. Non Non Biyori 86
14. Kyousogiga 82

Not As Lewd As It Sounds

There's all kinds of idol anime out there, and if I took anything from this one, the main goal seemed to be "Humans, with their ability to support each other and improvise, have room for improvement that an autotuned machine simply lacks." There was a lot of musical montages - and that's before the group even got to the concert - that gives me the feeling the show was padding for time in a few places. The animation wasn't spectacular, but I did like the characters.

Tomo, issues with the greenness of her VA aside, was observant enough, though I came to like Erica, Saya and Rumi by the end. Erica especially, though I've gone into detail on that before. The "and the adventure continues" ending wasn't too bad, and everyone's plotlines got a decent amount of followthrough. The music wasn't bad either. Miki's motivations for
the revenge plot
were a little unclear at times, though some of that may have had to do with the nosedive in quality the subs took near the end.

Overall, I'd say it was perfectly competent. Not the greatest anime I've seen, and there are signs of its era visible throughout, but it has some enjoyable characters with strong voices behind them, and presents the idol industry in a similar way to Wake Up, Girls!, just with some sci-fi trappings. Mostly, I was interested in it because it was a curio.

I've meant to ask -- when exactly did your Akari obsession become your "thing", again? After you watched the first or second season of YrYr?
Well I had an Akari avatar before I became part of AnimeGAF. When I first went into the IRC channel someone asked who I was and someone replied with something like 'the one with the Akari avatar'. Then I joked that I was literally Akari because I was always overlooked and then it just exploded from there.

Just saw the aoty results. Somehow I got quoted for KLK. I'm surprised the steins;gate movie wasn't in aoty or animegafs lists. I first got the recommendation to watch the series through animegaf so I thought the movie would at least be somewhere.

Now that I just looked at the actual topic.... HxH being severely lower in the filtered results. What the FUCK

It's a 100+ episode series in its third year of running; AnimeGAF doesn't have too many people who follow shows for that long as compared to the general anime viewing population. Especially since there were a few people here (such as myself, actually) who dropped it after one or two episodes.
