Be happy Hunter X Hunter made it into the top 10. As a 100+ episode show in its third year running, it's inherently difficult to get people watching it.

I guess, but the recent arc make the discussion about it more merrier lately, even on GAF

There's still another year though I think HxH up 8-9 spot from last year poll.

Better looking OP than last year. I can see why it took a while to put together. I expected Aku no Hana, Kyousougiga, Non Non Biyori and Monogatari to place much higher.

I can't believe Jojos actually made it so high this year lol. Gundam fighters is a mystery to me.

Yeah, we can look into ways of improving it for next year, but at least we've made some steps towards it. And while some people did feel the GotY thread was a bit stringent with the rules I think we need some sort of rule about names. So many nicknames were given in the votes that I had to keep looking them up, especially with those overly long light novel titles.

On that note I just wanted to point out that on your Google Document it looks like you have the Blue Exorcist movie at 7th place with 21 points and Ao no Exorcist at 17th place with 5 points. They are the same movie with the former being the English title and the latter being the Japanese title.

In that case it looks like the Blue Exorcist movie should have 26 points and be placed 5th under Gintama and not 7th.

I'm actually just getting back into Anime after a very long hiatus, so this list is brilliant, as it'll help me pick some new shows to watch. Having just got back, I've recently watched Attack on Titan, and purchased Steins; Gate, Eden of the East, Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt through time.

Adding everything in the top 20 list that's also on the UK CrunchyRoll, to my watch list, as I just bought 3 months of subscription. Unfortunately, they don't have Flowers of Evil and Space Battleship Yamato here in the UK, the two shows on the list I think I'd really enjoy. Any legal way to watch these two shows in the UK yet?

Oh, and also, the OP looks great.

Have you seen it yet? I would highly recommend checking it out if you have not. Definitely worthy of its spot without a doubt.

And I was so careful to double check names. Hold on as I correct all this.

I'm just legit surprised that people besides myself even remembered that Gundam Unicorn came out last year, hahaha. Nothing I voted for ranked top 3, I think. Unless I voted for KLK, which I don't think I did. Still, glad to see Flowers of Evil and Gundam Build Fighters place.

It would be interesting to see a count of first place votes only, because I recall seeing a lot of lists with Attack on Titan further down from the top, indicating that people liked or enjoyed it but may not have been really passionate about it.
I would like to see a comparison of people who voted AOT #1 w/ people who voted for less than 5 shows total. I really feel like it was the show for people who don't watch a lot of anime/any anime at all.

If I could've voted for more than 3 Movies/OVAs I would've put Unicorn in 4th. I just liked One Piece Film Z slightly more than it.

I'm the only one that voted for Otona Joshi ;_;

Considering it as part of the movies/OVA category, it certainly doesn't beat Wolf Children, Blue Exorcist, Gintama, Saint Young Men, Asura, Death Billiards, Little Witch Academia, etc. 2013 had an unusually large number of good movies/shorts.

Would have been in 6th based on tally in the google docs file.

I want to know how many of the dreaded "voted Attack on Titan #1 and nothing else" votes we got.

Silver Spoon got robbed, it got beat by Love Lab and Log Horizon o_O I'm also kinda glad Eccentric Family beat Kyousougiga; I consider the two to be companion shows with their heavy focus on family, myths/reality and wacky characters and events, but found EF to be much more relatable. KG issuperior on an academic and technical level but tried too much on being necessarily convoluted and confusing, there were many times where I was it and thinking that what is on the screen is very impressive but I'm kinda bored and disconnected.

Monogatari deserved better =/

And wow, I knew Yamato had a sudden surge of popularity, but I wasn't expecting it to win by such a huge margin. Am I going to have to actually watch this show at some point? >.> 26 episodes is quite a lot to backlog and it really doesn't look much like my kind of thing, but with this much praise...
Just do it ..i'm pretty sure you'll like it ..

Hang on.....The Gintama movie never made to the top 3. Fuck this shit.

My true disapointment for this year voting . i never expected him to win first place but i expected top 3.

--------
Yamato 2199actually moved my top10 list ..i'm not sure i would have rated it so high if i didn't watch it from start to finish because the first 2 eps didn't really grab me.

Nice presentation, BGBW; I can see why it took you a while to put this up. Decent list I suppose, not as good as 2012's AOTY list in accurately reflecting quality, but such is life. Surprised to see Kill la Kill place so high; my impression was that a strongly negative consensus had developed about it.

As it's the highest-viewed show based on Jex's data, a consensus is harder to develop. It goes beyond love or hate as there seems to be a wide range of opinions. People that dislike it complain about what they see as a lack of progress, fanservice and some occasional cost cutting methods, while those that like it praise the high energy, characters, presentation and choreography.

Oh man, Yozakura Quartet and Kyousougiga not breaching the top 10 in a world where Kill la Kill (wasn't comfortable voting for an ongoing show but its first half was totally less than stellar), and Attack on Titan did is just criminal. Gotta remind myself of this moment for next year's AOTY and not being such a picky bastard when it comes to only voting for shows that were the cream of the crop.

Oh, well. My Top 3 (and only 3) being in Top 5 is something I can appreciate. Kill la Kill really came out of nowhere though. From the New World sounds pretty intriguing, that'll be the next show I pick up after finishing Girls Und Panzer.

Samurai Flamenco being no where on the list is totally justified, easily my biggest disappointment.

Edit : Thanks for putting the time and work into this BGBW, you went above and beyond on the presentation front and I can totally appreciate that.

Brilliant OP, and always interesting results. I missed out on most of anime last year due to various RL stuff, but I like seeing GAF's recommendations and reading impressions when deciding what to watch.

That's really strange. When I search for it on the PS3 app, nothing appears. But yeah, that link totally works for me. I just figured it wasn't available here in the UK, but now I don't know what's wrong.

Cheers for pointing that out though. Worst case, I'll watch it on my PC.

Disable the mature video filter through the CR website and it should play on your other devices.

Well HxH got robbed pretty hard but atleast from the votes its save to concluded that the people that watched it put it in the top spots almost everytime.. to bad not many people watched it.
I dont get the second place for Kill la kill.. its your typical scream for power up and slut gear anime.

I don't agree with where everything fell on these lists (but then again who ever does :p) but I'm glad to say I watched some good anime this year and there are still good ones I still need to see. Thanks for doing this BGBW. Awesome presentation as well :)

Some of the salt in this thread will go great on my metaphorical popcorn though :p *munch* *munch*
