I think it looks fine overall to be honest.
It's pretty much what you'd expect with a modern kids cartoon.
I think several things are pretty clear from both the visual design and the plans of the franchise reboot:
- Sonic is now primarily a character franchise driven by merchandise and entertainment products more generally. The games are not the primary product, they're just one part of the process.

So if we get a Sonic Generations 2, will we be able to play as Genesis Sonic, Dreamcast Sonic, and Hipster Sonic?
I've been asking myself this since the late 90s.
