Why the fuck do people care so much about Backwards Compatibility?

Seeing people lose their minds over the PS5 backward compatibility capabilities..

PS4 came out in 2013. It is 2020. 7 Years of these games. New consoles. New games.

Y'all really gonna be out here playing old ass PS4 games on your PS5? 😭

Who the fuck truly cares about playing current-gen games beyond this fall, going into next gen? Get real, fuckheads. 💩😭

Oh, your old catalogue of 1000 year old PS1 games wont work on your PS5? I dont give a shit. And neither should you. New consoles. New games.

You don't get to tell people what they should care about and not. Its a great addition either you like it or not

Playing all of the generations on one box is massive. Oh one more thing, for free too.

I said the same with xbox one I didn't care I wanted new titles but every couple of months I saw more BC titles announced then new games. However, now the digital downloads are bigger than ever i understand it

Because people like good games.

Also, that dumbass response PlayStation fanladyboys use of "I care about games, not power."

Well dumbasses, you're leaving lots of good games out without BC.

Or are you going to fabricate a brand new argument again?

Its a 'Nice to have' type of thing.

Its not mandatory and i won't lose sleep over it.

Only reason i wished for BC in PS5 is because my PS4 Pro sounds like a harrier jet playing games and i'm sick of the noise LOL

Hardware doesn't last forever. It would be nice if my discs and digital stuff all came forward for peace of mind. I also like to go back to some of my favorite games.

Good, modern games. No one is out here still bragging about fucking God of War 2.

Because I'm sicking of having to keep tons of old plastic boxes around in case I ever want to play specific games again, which I often do, because there's huge droughts between new games that are actually worth playing.

Obviously we want new ones too. We wouldn't buy them if there were no new games either.

Because you want to keep your digital games. If you can't, you are very likely jumping ship and never coming back. Xbox supporting digital and physical games all the way back to 2001 is a massive benefit. My digital library on Xbox is 819 games because of that. That's excluding 200+ Game Pass games and 80 EA Access games that come on top.

I love older games. Being able to play them all on one device is a godsend (Which is why I love Retroarch).

I owned an XBO for a few months to play Forza Horizon 4 last year. I spent most of that time playing BC games like Oblivion, Crackdown and Daytona USA. I loved that the option was there.

Me. Loooooooooooove it with my X. Considering how intertwined the development and business sides have become with game design being able to play old games has been a major feature for me this gen. Hell last weekend I played the crap out of Peggle for the 360. Considering all the BS in IRL it was the perfect escape. My first experience with Dark Souls was through XBBC on the Xbox One, the better frame rate and the up-res made a it better than if I played them on a 360. Same can be said for Fall Out New Vegas, Crackdown, Fallout 3, etc. If the PS5 had PS1-4, I'd be there day 1. Now Ill hold off a bit

Being able to go and play Doom 2 with Brutal Doom mod on a whim, or jumping back into Chaos Theory when I'm feeling sneaky, or jumping in Blade Runner when I'm in the mood for Sci-Fi is a great feature for me as a primary PC gamer. I love having my ENTIRE library going back 15 years that I can play with the simple click of a button and maybe a bit of messing around to get them to work at resolutions and frame-rates they were never intended to be at. Why you wouldn't want that as a feature is a bigger question. Xbox One X's backwards compatibility has been an amazing feature that I actually used to play older games that I can't get on my PC. I've played more older titles on my Xbox than I have current ones, as I just use my PC for multiplats.

Whats wrong in going back to play classics you might have missed or just really enjoyed? It's a great option to have and takes nothing away from current games.

Because digital purchases grew. That's why. But of course, primarily will play new games.

I have purchased an obscene amount of video games. I own a lot of them on Playstation 3 which holds a good chunk of PS1 classics as well. I own a lot of games for my Playstation 4 as well.

Generally, I'm playing games that are "newer" - my primary game right now is Rainbow Six Siege, a game that was released this generation and has an active development process to this day. Awesome, I want to keep playing that game on my next generation, even if it means paying for the PS5 edition of Rainbow Six Siege.

But every now and then I go back and play Resident Evil 2 from 1998 on my PS3. Or I get the itch to replay Metal Gear Solid 4. Or Digimon World 2. Or Final Fantasy IX. Or Grand Theft Auto IV. Or Red Dead Redemption. So if I have the option of being able to play all of these games on my Playstation 5 later this year, or having to keep my PS3 around (which may die sooner rather than later), I'd much rather have the option to play it all on one box with my favorite controller.

That's why I care about Backwards Compatibility. Will I ever go back and play through my entire PS3 library? Definitely not. But there are games that I consider timeless that haven't made the transition to my current platforms that I still would like to play, and would like to have the added comfort of knowing the hardware I'm buying will allow me to maintain access to my library indefinitely.

I can understand people wanting to go back and play PS3/PS2 games more so than the gen that is just ending now. Due to nostalgia and truly missing certain games. I do not however, give a single shit about playing recently played PS4 again on my PS5.

I think moving forward BC becomes more important. I want to know when I am buying a game I can play it down the road. Sure I do not expect 100% BC and I understand license limitations. BUt for the most part I expect it. Sure I will mostly use it for late gen games I missed and could have played on my current box.... IF i kept it plugged in.

Some people buying a PS5 never owned a PS4/PS3/PS2/PS1, so the more of those consoles it can emulate or play the better for them, it opens up large libraries of good older titles.

Because it's nice to have?

It's not something I would use daily but in the cases where I had it (GB/GBC/GBA/NDS/3DS, Xbox/Xbox360, Wii/WiiU) it definitely saw some use. Can't be arsed to keep old systems hooked forever but I do occasionally wanna play some of those games.

I enjoy fun games, regardless of their age.

Coming from the goldmine of classics supported by my PC and Xbox One S, the apparent lack of full backwards compatibility on PS4 is just odd and uninviting to me.

I'm currently playing Ape Escape and Final Fantasy 9 on my slim PS2. I dont care what year it is. I'm having a blast.

No seriously, Sony fucked up

Rumor: PS5 to be fully BC with previous consoles, including even PS3.
Fanboys: FUK YEEEEAAAH, suck it Xbots!

Reality: PS5 isn't even fully BC with PS4.
Fanboys: Who the fuck wants BC LMAO.

Because gears of war 5 looks fucking insane at pc ultra settings and with Ray tracing on top of that, that's why. MS will provide the consumer with an array of games (from GOW5 to Halo5 to forza Horizon 4 e.t.c) that will look jaw dropping with the way they are handling bc. When I first played gears3 on the XSX I was at awe and that was deep in the ps4/Xbox one generation not at the beginning of it. Could care less about playing ps4 games on the ps5 the way Sony seems to be doing with just a frame rate boost. Now if Sony gives me a 4k ray traced God of war and Horizon that will change .

Because it feels awesome to fire up an old game that you never played but always wanted to and play it in 4k on your X. Played Forza Horizon 1, Splinter Cell games, Darksiders and many more.

I have about 150 games between the PS1-PS3. If I include PS4 it's well over 200. The majority of these are the ones I replay and replay (the others got culled awhile ago). I still play them on the original hardware because I still own the original hardware.

It's not so much that I "care so much". Rather, the feature would get me to buy PS5, that's all. Otherwise, I can play what I already have on the systems I already have.

From the top of my head:

-Sometimes I like to replay older games.
-If you don't have such a high income it's nice being able to sell your current system to afford a new one and it's nice not loosing access to the games you've bought over the last 7 years in the process.
- Even if money isn't an issue, sometimes you just don't want 6 different boxes under your TV
- Sometimes you might discover a cool game that's a few years old and it sucks when it's locked to some old hardware

And from the perspective of someone who also plays on PC:
- Having your games look or/and perform better by simply upgrading your hardware is nice
- Using your new hardware to go back to older games you enjoyed and replaying them with nicer visuals and/or better performance without the need to repurchase the game is nice
- Knowing the vast majority of games you are buying are going to be forward compatible with future hardware upgrades instead of being locked to a specific piece of hardware makes digital purchases a whole lot more appealing

Because options are great for gamers. If you don't use it, fine, no skin off your back. Then you have people like myself who wouldn't mind playing MGS3 without having to hook up the PS2 or PS3.

TL; DR Because I want the option, whore!

Because some of the best games ever made are past gen, fuckhead.

And worse than that, some very good niche genres don't even see quality releases anymore, so fuck you.

PS. I had fun writing this, and I'm really channeling my inner George Carlin here.

I explained in the OP.

New console. New games.

We had 7 years to enjoy these games, time to move on.
Spotted the movie-watcher / Netflix junkie.

Videogames are not disposable products, or at least they shouldn't be. Failure to acknowledge this is the source of many woes in the modern game industry.

Same reason why people go crazy about those mini retro consoles, because they like the games they like and to replay good games.
Classics are classics no matter what generation they come from
