007 First Light - Reviews Thread

I just don't like it. Its not a good game imo and not good for the franchise but each to their own.

I've always had this opinion. I love uncharted it's just 4 I don't like.
UC4's biggest problem to me was that it was just too long for its own good. There were a couple moments where I was just thinking, "I would like for this to be over now". The game isn't bad at all, but the final third or so kind of turned into a slog.

A combination of Hitman and Uncharted, what's not to like? People were way too pessimistic about the game, the developer deserved at least the benefit of the doubt.
Since when is it a bad idea to be skeptical? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Err on the side of caution and if something is good you'll be pleasantly surprised.
or
Blindly trust in everyone and everything and end up disappointed frequently.

Gee, I wonder which is the better option :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's a spy-jammer action game, but in terms of both gunplay and melee combat, I don't see anything that makes me think this game deserves a 9.

The character's animations are rather underdeveloped.

It reminds me a lot of Indiana Jones in that the Indiana Jones world setting is definitely present, but the gameplay itself is mediocre.

We might be looking at a good 007 game in terms of setting, but the gameplay is mediocre and lacks technical innovation.
How do you know the gameplay is mediocre? It's called gameplay for a reason.

Does it matter?

Got it for Xbox.
Had enough Microsoft Rewards Points and Xbox Credit Card cash back balance to cover the full cost.

I'm not blind.

I'm watching the combat gameplay.

I'm 40 years old and I've been playing video games since I was 12.

The AI is mediocre, but the animation transitions are clunky, not only in melee but even the character's animations are unnatural, even when aiming or taking cover.

It all feels very clunky.

In 2026 this game is mediocre; in 2015 it would have been a good game.

Reviews are good but man this Bond just looks so lame and nothing like Bond. It's such a dealbreaker for me.

And be careful of one girl in a bikini and then the rest of the game is just girlboss city lol.

Congratulations on being 40. I'll reserve judgement on gameplay until you know I actually play the game.

Im 52 by the way and been gaming since i was 5 years old. What do I win?

I'm 40 years old and have been playing games since I was 3. The game plays fine so far 🤷‍♂️

I still need more time with it, but it doesn't seem like a janky ass game to me.

I'm also not blind, for the record.

Definitely going on the wishlist.
I've always said this looked good, like an Uncharted 4 if the parts in between the fights and setpieces didn't suck.

Any word on the console performance though? Specifically the regular Ps5?
If ElAnalistaBits can be trusted on this, it seems like a solid 30 or 60 based on the mode, with the rare single fps dip. Need to find any measurements for that plane sequence where it dropped like crazy. We know the pro was locked in the new footage they release, so the base should be ok, I think, given that was a CPU related issue.

I'm not talking about being skeptical, I'm talking about those that were shitting on the game expecting it to be trash.
I didn't see anyone expecting it to be trash. WoA is IO's only game in the last ten years though, so being skeptical makes sense.

Even great devs put out turds once in a while.

Two details I've noticed about the generic gameplay.

The handmaiden doesn't even have peripheral vision; she's looking right where Bond is walking and doesn't even notice him.

And what bothers me most is how Bond closes doors with the Force.

He doesn't touch the doorknob at any point; he simply puts his hand near it and the door closes.

These are details that, even in 2026, are starting to make me tired of lazy developers.

The only knob not getting touched is yours by the sounds of things. Get out more.

Didn't expcet such high ratings, because the videos didn't impress me. Maybe in on sale.

Nah. If the videos didn't impress you, then a sale shouldn't change your mind about the game. Unless that's the real reason you're not buying it now is because of the price.

CohhCarnage is playing the game right now for anyone interested.
The game looks nice but very Hitman like, which is not really my thing to be honest. He's only 40mins in though so it could change.

Glad to see hight reviews! My unlock is at 3pm so finger's crossed - but it is so hot in my mancave - 29C!
Do you have a fan in the room..If so put a bowl of ice in front of it and it'll cool the room in no time..With the current heatwave in the UK you may have to replensih it often but it'll help for sure

Clarky - did you have the home unit of pong from Radio Shack as a kid? Or the Magnavox system...I've been gaming since 1978 can I win a prize too :) These younglings don't know what having to use your imagination while gaming is like..I had to pretend a capital I was a tennis player with a racket and shit...

This is the kind of game which is a prime candidate for a 40 FPS balance mode.

Damn shame that there isn't one.

My first system was a yellow pong unit with 2 paddles and curly wires. Too young to remember what it actually was unfortunately. Good times.

Still looks boring and derivative AF to me but I'm more inclined to give it a chance on the back of these very strong reviews (and then probably regret my purchase).

Lmfao. The dealbreaker for you is how Bond closes doors?

You desperately want this game to be bad. Just say its not for you and move on. This is embarrassing.

Better review scores than I expected, and I do like Uncharted-style gameplay and Bond, but for now I'm still planning to skip this game. I want to see a general consensus of impressions from regular gamers after the game is released. If their opinions match or are even more positive than untrustworthy "professional" journalists, then I may think about giving the game a shot.

Combat seems to have quite a lot of potential, huge step up from hitman. Still gonna wait for the pathtracing update before touching it, hope its soon.

Waiting to play once I'm done with work but you know what's even more exciting?

If we get a sequel to First Light, it sounds like IOI is gonna drop an even better game on their second outing with Bond

From the first gameplay clip I watched, I've felt the exact same way. I don't think it looks better than Uncharted 4 at least from an animation perspective.

Personally, I'll be waiting on this game to go on a deep deep sale before I consider buying it. More power to those who enjoy it though.

However, it just doesn't look like a 2026 caliber game from a technical perspective. Who knows, maybe the story is magnificent.

Like with Hitman, it is all about world interactivity that makes the gameplay fun. Animations are a bit chunky, but the gameplay is nowhere near as repetitive as an Uncharted game

The combat looks really slick. Yeah, it's not really doing anything new, blah blah blah, but the way it's all blending together is a definite step above most other games. Seen some great interactivity in the environments too:

It shouldn't be surprising since the animator of the Arkham games is the combat director.
