1 Year of Diablo III - statistics

...

That was a long picture!

So how do you feel about Diablo 3 after its first year?

I played the crap out of it, and beat the game. Then, a hacker got my account, and when I got it back, all my data had been erased.

Damn it.

I haven't played the game since June 2012 and, despite my interest fizzling out part way through Act 3, have no desire to resume my playthrough.

Excuse my while I attend to the alpha of Grim Dawn.

Played it on launch, got a refund from blizzard, and never went back to it. It's blizzards most disappointing sequel of all time for me.

Game is horribly horribly broken.

When you've put over 100 hours into an RPG and NEVER used a piece of gear that has dropped, that's when you know the game is just messed up.

I played it to inferno, but dropped it due to the fact that (at the time) you were practically required to use the auction house. And fuck that noise.

Game's great and is getting better every patch. I still do a farming session once or twice a week, the genre peers of D3 just don't have acceptable combat responsiveness and feedback.

I have barely touched it after buying it for real cheap. Not sure if I'd anger some people by opening my game to public, haha.

Surprisingly even distribution between America, Europe and Asia (although it seems Europe is the most hardcore...)

Over 2 million average players per day since launch is impressive. Some people on GAF make it seem like the game's down to 2000 players.

Average # of hours played per day: 8.2 billion..

Sorry but that is *the* stupidest statistic I've ever read. How much time does the average people play per day. 6 hours? 10 hours? 14+ ? 8.2 billion is so useless.

I never take the statistics seriously of anything that stacks playtimes. If 1 million people play a game for an hour it does not equal 1 million hours of time. It's mindbogglingly pointless to even consider it statistically useful.

Other than that, some of the stats are nice. For example I was not aware that there was a 91:9 normal hardcore split, I would have expected more.

If it wasn't for requiring a constant internet connection and the focus on RMAH I would probably play it more. Every time I play it I end up stopping for a month then try again.

can't remember last time i played, was in june 2012 sometime, was definitely before paragon levels were introduced.

I dunno LoL has 12 million apparently?

I wonder if the 648trillion gold was before or after the gold cloning fiasco? I was hoping for some actual graphs of these numbers over the course of the year rather than just a point in time snapshot.

Took a long break after clearing inferno after launch but the game is a lot better now. Good shit Blizz.

Not that Blizzard would ever show it, I'd be much more interested in seeing the population drop off rate over time.

Most of the numbers is that picture don't really mean much.

Such a shame that the auction house and the shitty item drops completely ruined this game. Had a great deal of fun running through the entire game with a friend though.

It's a pity because, despite the dated graphics, D3 has perhaps the best sense of violent melee combat I've seen in an ARPG. The animations are appropriately gory and the sound effects decidedly "punchy". The ex-Iron Lore folks have stepped up their game in the latter category and combat in Grim Dawn is all the better for it, but, being in alpha, there are of course lessons to be taken from what is otherwise perhaps the most disappointing ARPG I've ever played.

I have no idea what you are objecting to.

Average daily hours played is 8.2 million (not billion). On average 2.1M players play daily. Pretty simple math tells you the average person is playing 3.9 hours per day.

Of course, from what I have heard, the game is infested with bots. That's probably inflating the average play times a significant amount.

they conveniently left out the number of RMAH total $ sold.

I really want to see how much they made from those, and I want to see how many people actually paid real money for items.

I agree. I haven't even made it past the first chapter. I just lose all interest. I think it's not so much the online requirement as it is the auction house. I don't want to spend time in there buying/selling items with real or fake money. I just want it to be all in-game. Which I guess it is but we all know they want you to use the AH so you get horrible shit most of the time. Just annoys me.

I object because time does not stack. 2.1m players do not produce 8.2 million hours of time. 2.1m players play on average 3.9 hours per day. That is the statistic. Not the other needlessly high multiplied number generated to make these infographics look more interesting/shocking.

Wow, only 6% have cleared Inferno?
6% of characters. A lot of players create a bunch of characters for mules or for messing around and then pick one. 14.5m unique players and 4.3m characters have cleared inferno and I imagine people with 2+ inferno characters are in the minority.

Most people on this board, even some Path of Exile people say D3 is fine/good now. They are probably right and most of the "issues" I had around launch are already rectified.

I quit after the first month and it was definitely disappointing.
