10 years with no new BioShock is a sad world to live in.

I guess? I don't know, I could enjoy more Bioshocks, but I could just have easily have had that one first game be it and Levine doing other things instead. Good games in the moment and intriguing storytelling, but it's not anything I feel missing in my gaming diet when I don't have more.

If you read the book, broken pixels, you’ll see Ken Levine was pretty burnt out. However I’m not sure why another studio didn’t pick up the torch.

The first one was a masterpiece.

The second was trash.

The third was unnecessary, but delivered pure fanservice.

Somethings are better left alone.

BioShock infinite 2. A sky city on Venus.

I thought the Venus level in Wolfenstein 2 was pretty cool. Steal that shit.

Nah not really, we have a overrated first game with excellent aesthetics, a underrated second with the best gameplay and story in the franchise then a utter garbage third with meh aesthetics.
They killed the franchise when they made zero iteration to the gameplay, piss poor level design and a awful pretentious plot.
Judas being a spiritual successor could go either way but if its more Infinite than B1/2 then MEEEEHHHHHHH.

The spiritual successor is coming soon at least. Wasn’t an actual new game in the works too? Did they ever layout the vita games story?

Cloud Chamber is working on a new Bioshock.

However I think that's old news by now, like they announced this 6 years ago? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Seems to be stuck in dev hell.

Passionate devs kept on shrinking in numbers, everyone wanted to make more money, it's no longer a privilege, I don't care about what gen z is saying, that's just my opinion.

God knows what is going on with that project. Im assuming its dead. Sucks too as Shawn Elliott (GFW Radio, Irrational, Arkane) was set to direct it.

Don't know why but this series has always been meh to me. Even kind of bulldozed my way through Bioshock and it wasn't that great. I like the third one a lot but even that one I just stopped playing out of nowhere and never had the urge to go back.

One of the best series of all time. I know many didn't, but I loved Infinite. Was a really cool concept. Nothing quite like it ever since. Wonder if they could do a Mars one?

I loved Bioshock (all three) so much that I keep resisting my urge to give them another go just in case I don't enjoy things nearly as much as the first time.

Bioshock was a masterpiece through and through.
Bioshock 2 had a less awesome story but had the best gameplay.
Bioshock Infinite was another masterpiece (though I didn't like the two weapon limit, even if it provided some good moments) and those two DLC in Rapture were amazing.

They all still hold up, especially nowadays since there is a distinct lack of shoved in socio political bullshit.

Just seeing all games that were so heavily inspired by BioShock in different ways means BioShock is still alive and kicking in a way. Looking forward to both Judas and Clockwork Revolution.

The first game was great, more than great.

Two was good, nothing more.

The last one was average at best.

Downhill trend and no wonder we haven’t had enough.

I never felt any of them quite got there. The first was the best, but already had dated fps mechanics with no iron sights etc and felt clunky. The second felt tired. And the third was style over substance. That said, I always kept playing them as they were always almost great. I'd be be happy with a complete remake of the original one tbh.

2nd was just average. More of the same. The dlc was good though. I never played part 3

I think it was better than average. It finally introduced dual wielding, it has a badass single handed double barrelled shotty, the remote unlock thingy, the drill arm, film recording the splicers was a cool twist on the photography from part 1...and

The side story of Mark Meltzer was above and beyond better than any narrative that the main story consisted of. Upon finding that first audio diary of his I was fuckin hooked to find out whether or not he found his daughter. Drip by drip through the main story you're learning more about this father from the outside world and his journey deep into Rapture to rescue his family. And the way it ends is shocking and heartbreaking on levels that I wont spoil for anyone here in case they havent played it.

Minerva's Den is cool and all, but Mark Meltzer's story is the real deal.

infinite was worse than the shyte I had to do in a bush during a 7 mile run today. Let it stay buried.

Mediocre franchise, Arkane released multiple better games than whatever Bioshock tried to do.
I love Bioshock! I even made a video years ago about why (including it's failings). I'm mixed on the sequels. In fact I honestly disliked Infinite by quite some bit. But you are quite correct. The Dishonered games are amazing! Prey.....had it's issues but still good.

I have no idea how anybody managed to finish any of these games. The gameplay is mind-numbingly repetitive. I tried putting them into easy mode just to get through the story but that made it even worse somehow.

I loved Bioshock, Bioshock 2 was great, but after Infinite I was pretty much over it.

I mean, I don't want a non-Ken Levine Bioshock. But because of Infinite, I have absolutely zero faith in the guy. All of the coolest shit that was shown off in Infinite videos, it all ended up on the cutting room floor, and that was all because of Levine. Hence... over it.

First one was great.
The second was alright.
The third sucked.
It scratched a Deus Ex itch even if was in a watered down lite way.

You know that BioShock is more or less a socialist screed, right? Like if you're honestly worried about woke wars you probably didn't understand BioShock.
And?

Is this one of those "all games are political" arguments?

I didn't see anything racist or sexist in the original game. I don't remember any misandry from the devs or narcissistic self inserts. I'm not aware of any forced artistic changes over forced diversity bullshit.

Not sure about the third one though, i didn't play that.

Did you suddenly forget that the purple people hate Bioshock Infinite BECAUSE it equates hot socialist revolutionaries with ultranationalists?

Also nothing in Bioshock 1 is socialist. It's critical of Randian "great man" capitalism, but there's no Marxism anywhere.

It's a game series that is most harsh toward messianic revolution writ large.

It does? It's a pretty pointed critique of American exceptionalism and all that goes with it. I don't think it conflates them with socialism in any way.

I mean fair, it's more anti-anarcho-capitalist than explicitly socialist, but it's not a coincidence that each BioShock game is a takedown of these tentpoles of conservative thought.

It was Rod Fergusson that cut all the features no? They brought him in to get the product released and he drastically cut a lot of features. To the point where some of it didn't make sense.

Example - "The Boy of Silence" enemy with the hearing horns on their helmets. Originally you had to be stealthy or they would hear you and call reinforcements. They were blind.
On release you can be as noisy as you want as long as you do not get in their field of vision. Lol! What? He can't see shit!
They changed the entire encounter design of the enemy! Now it is just a walking security cam from Bioshock 1 & 2.

Bioshock 1: I bought an XBOX 360 for it. I didn't have a good gaming PC, so it was a generational leap AND an amazing game. My go-to favorite of all time.

Bioshock 2: Felt like a retread of 1.

Bioshock Infinite: The last game I can recall having uninhibited levels of hype for, and I loved it. I went slow and soaked in everything I could. Video games can transport you to another world, and Infinite did that for me as good as any other game ever has.

What time is it?
I need to replay Bioshock at some point. The atmosphere was great, of course, but all I really remember is the binary morality choice, the suit collection towards the end and the horrible final boss. Never played the sequel and Infinite was let down by lackluster combat sequences that always felt like they went on for a wave or two of enemies too long.

I'm pretty sure I beat Bioshock 1 on one playthrough when it came out

Something like 14-16 hours. My hands were so swollen after that, lmao.
