100+ hour Metal Gear [Solid] Story Marathon on Twitch

I lost some respect for him, since MGR was one of my games of the year. I guess I can see why some hardcore mgs fans would hate it but I cant agree, its too damn good.

After the phantom pain they should do a reboot of the series. I only hope that
Ninja Theory
isn't too busy.

Spring 15' isn't so bad.

MGS4's first teaser was E3 2005.

The game came in Summer 2008.

That. Was fucking bad.

Great stream! I followed the dogg and knight pretty entertaining. I'm actually pretty hype for ground zeroes and MGSV:TPP it renewed the hype in me,can't wait to see solid snake again not to mention frank jaeger aka gray fox.. Maybe drebin or Raiden might make appearances at the children war camps

I dunno if a child soldier cameo would be appropriate. There's sure to be tons of silliness and fan service in Phantom Pain but they seem to want to take the whole child soldier thing at least a little seriously this time >_>

I love gaming marathons, but I hate when they end. This was probably my favorite out of any I've watched. I hope they do one again soon. ;_; 7

Also, before Kojima retires or walks away from Metal Gear, he needs to make a Boss/WWII/Cobras game, a 3D remake that combines MG and MG2:SS into one full game and possibly a Liquid or Gray Fox game. Only then Kojima!

That's the one I want to happen the most.

That will never happen.

I think we will most surely get another Big Boss game that cover MG1 and MG2 events, but from his point of view.

As for WW2 game with the Boss... Could be good. But that game will have zero Metal Gears.

Damnit missed the end of the marathon. ;_;

Many thanks to those three masters at work.

My first gaming marathon and I think I put about 50+ hours watching this. Very insightful watch and a reinforcing reason why this is video games greatest series.

Same here, and like a few others in this thread, it's actually gotten me waaay more hyped for GZ than I thought I'd ever be. Kudo to the guys running the stream and their informative commentary. Can't think of any other single player series that's packed with this much gameplay easter eggs and deep lore

This finished very early in the morning in the UK and I couldn't see the end, what was the final timer count? Glad I got to watch most of it.

That was an awesome marathon. I really enjoyed it as always, unfortunately I missed the ending. But yeah, I guess that's it. thanks guys for hanging out in this thread!

3dogg is running MGS2 under 3 hours right now.

Same channel as in op.

+ Topic: Extreme/Euro Extreme Difficulty, finish the game in under 3 hours, no kills, no continues, no alerts ( apart from the 3 forced alerts), no rations, 699 shots fired max, 8 saves used max (by threedogg 21m 3s ago)

He'll show you have to break this game.

I never played MGS4 because I don't have a PS3. I'm about 2 hours into the stream of it. It looks both fascinating and extremely frustrating to play.

The mechanics are quite awesome and arguably the best in the series.

However, the boss encounters aren't often as memorable as in previous installments and once Act 3 comes around the gameplay steers far, far away from traditional infiltration.

Was it ever explained how Raiden went from a jpop boy band member in MGS2 to a metal monster in MGS4? Who was able to mess him up that badly?

Believe he got fucked up when he went to rescue sunny.

edit: looks like I'm wrong.. happened after that

He then began work on retrieving Big Boss' remains from the Patriots for the Paradise Lost Army, leading to his capture. As a prisoner, the Patriots used Raiden as a test subject for experiments in exoskeletal enhancement surgery, during which he had his head and spine excised from his body from his lower jaw down and subsequently grafted into an enhanced synthetic body.

When he rescued Sunny at Area 51, he was able to get her safely to Otacon and Snake but himself was captured. The Patriots tortured him, performing exoskeleton experiments similar to Frank Jaeger. Raiden was able to become a cyborg ninja with the help of a Dr. Madnar, whom Naomi and Sunny go seek out in Act 3 of MGS4. When all was said and done, the only natural parts of him remaining were his head and spine.

His MGS4 look is pretty effeminate too. Long nails, high heels, and more anime-ish hair.

Interesting, thanks. Is this just background info provided by Kojima then? Did Snake rescue Raiden, or did the Patriots just let him go after their research was done?

Raiden went from being the ultimate virtual soldier to the ultimate synthetic soldier, but ultimately always retaining free will, the part that makes him human.

True, as effeminate as a cyborg can look I guess. The metal jaw gave him a Frankenstein kind of appearance. But his hair was shorter, and I always figured the "high heels" were some mechanism to boost jumping height.

Above is a good page that will answer your questions.

Hmm....Rose was already pregnant enough for her to be aware (and showing?) at the end of MGS2. Raiden and Rose began living together, but split up before she had a baby. So apparently in less than seven months Raiden began studying Japanese sword fighting and was able to become a master swordsman? That bit of backstory seems a bit forced.

The whole Rose bit during MGS2 always seemed weird to me anyway. The wiki suggests there were real and fake versions of Rose during the game, but that's never really established within the game narrative. Campbell had moments of acting weird from the start of the mission, constantly trying to divert Raiden from asking questions, and some bits of speech that seemed robotic. My feeling always was that both of these characters were artificial constructs from the beginning, created based on info GW had on the real people (including Rose's revelations to Raiden).

The Rose spying issue was obviously true regardless of that, and I don't like that Kojima glossed over that in their relationship going forward, as there would have been major trust issues for Raiden, especially after the Solidus-Raiden revelations.

The general consensus is that Rose was real up until she gets cut off in Arsenal Gear. After that, her codec character is replaced with the JFK AI (later known as JD in MGS4).

The Rose you see at the end of MGS2 standing in the street is of course also real.
